Cylindrical Or Roller-type Support For Material To Be Heated Patents (Class 219/469)
  • Patent number: 6571080
Abstract: A structurally improved fusing roller assembly based on a heat pipe principle is provided. The fusing roller assembly includes a fusing roller that serves as a heat pipe, and a resistance heater and/or a halogen lamp inside the fusing roller, so that the surface of the fusing roller can be instantaneously heated up to a target fusing temperature. The fusing roller assembly can be heated up to a target fusing temperature within a shorter period of time without need for a warm-up period and a stand-by period, so that power consumption decreases.

Abstract: In the head-fixing apparatus of the film heating system in an image forming apparatus, a heat capacity is controlled to be as small as possible because the quick-start property is recognized to be more importance. Thus, heat conductivity in the longitudinal direction is poor and, due to a relationship between the area where a recording material is conveyed and the heating area of the energizing heating resistance layer, a) heat is insufficient at the end portion in the initial period and b) unusual temperature rising occurs at the end portion at the time of continuous heat-fixing. In order to resolve those problem, an apparatus which can control adequately temperature at the area where a recording material is conveyed without rising temperature at the end portion of a heater as a non-sheet passing area.

Abstract: A thermal conduction roller (10) has a tubular roller core (11) with an inside surface; and an electrical insulator coat (16) primarily of zirconia on the inside surface, a heater coat (18) of titania or a titania blend is disposed over the insulator coat (16), and at least two electrical contact assemblies that are disposed inside the roller and electrically connect to the heater coat (18) as the roller (10) is being rotated. One embodiment utilizes an electrical insulator coat (16) in a range of thickness from about ten mils to about twenty mils. A thinner coat may not have sufficient dielectric strength, while a thicker coat decreases thermal conduction. A release material (12) is applied to the outside of the roller (10). Various contact structures according to the present invention are also described in detail, including one especially adapted to connect to a three-phase power supply.

  • Patent number: 6274846
Abstract: During an initial setting period, if there is a tendency for a belt to move sideways due to tolerance when components are assembled in the initial setting, inclination in the axial direction of a driven roller can be changed after the components are assembled, to adjust degree of tension at both end portions in the transverse direction of the belt wound at a driven roller. Accordingly, the tendency for the belt to move sideways caused during assembly of the components can be corrected. Further, when there are changes over time (reduced elasticity of the belt, changes in the positioned state of rollers, or the like), sideways movement may occur during operation. However, in these cases, since a tapered auxiliary roller is attached at each of end portions in the axial direction of the rollers so as to be able to rotate relatively to the respective roller that is the base body thereof, when the belt moves sideways onto the auxiliary rollers the belt can be promptly returned to its original position.
