  • Patent number: 9956645
Abstract: In a first embodiment, at a time of magnetic pulse welding, a stepped tube profile machining process axially bores a walled tube from an end inward to a transition depth to form a section with a reduced wall thickness and then axially bores the walled tube from the transition depth to a fall off depth, thereby forming a section with a maximized welding wall section. In a second embodiment, also at a time of magnetic pulse welding, a surface angle tube profile machining process axially bores at a surface angle a walled tube from an end to a bore length to form an angular welding wall thickness inward to a maximized wall section. For both embodiments, the bored surfaces are virgin with no pits, oil, residue, or oxidation thereon, thus making the machined walled tubes available for immediate magnetic pulse welding.

Abstract: A method and device for soldering plural electrical connections, in which contact elements have to be soldered to soldered-connection faces positioned on a non-metallic glazing. In the method a soldering tool is used to emit a magnetic field towards the solder spots to heat these by induction. The magnitude and shape of the soldering tool is sized according to the surface area over which plural solder spots that have to be heated simultaneously in a soldering operation are situated. At the same time, the frequency of an AC voltage applied to the loop or to the coil is tailored to the connection geometry and set to 150 kHz at most. Thus, for a high work rate, markedly better heating of the components that need to be soldered is obtained because the low-frequency field lines have a greater depth of penetration into the bodies.

  • Patent number: 8158903
Abstract: In a method of repairing a structural component, especially a stator-side structural component such as a housing or a guide vane ring of a gas turbine, a damaged section is separated-out along a separating line and removed from the structural component, and a new section that replaces the removed damaged section is connected with the structural component by welding along the separating line to produce a weld seam. The damaged section is separated-out from the structural component so as to minimize the length of the separating line and thus the weld seam. Depending on the material thickness distribution of the component along the separating line, material is removed from the structural component to provide the most uniform possible material thickness along the weld seam. After connecting the new section with the structural component by welding, at least the removed material is renewed by laser powder deposit welding.

Abstract: A method for heating a work piece or a welding interface using a vibration welding system includes positioning the work piece adjacent to a welding tool such that the welding interface is also adjacent to the welding tool, and then using an induction heating device to generate an eddy current in one of the welding tool and the work piece to thereby heat the welding interface to a calibrated threshold temperature or temperature range. A high-frequency vibration thereafter may be applied using a sonotrode of the vibration welding system to form a weld. The method may include adjusting the position and orientation of the induction heating device relative to the work piece to change the location of the eddy current. A vibration welding system includes a welding tool, the induction heating device, and a control module which controls the induction heating device to thereby control the welding temperature.

Abstract: A method for joining at least two components by inductive high-frequency pressure welding is disclosed. The first component has a first material structure with a first hardness and the second component has a second material structure with a second hardness which is smaller than the first hardness. Both components are inductively heated in the region of the joining surfaces and are subsequently pressed together by a compressive force. The joining surface of the first component with the first hardness, which is greater than the second hardness of the second component, is pre-contoured in a spherical, conical or convex manner prior to joining the two components.

  • Patent number: 7974733
Abstract: A method for estimating a plurality of geometrical parameters defining the size of a weld gun that has particular application for automatically selecting a weld gun for a welding operation. The method includes iteratively estimating a plurality of geometric parameters based on part section curves corresponding to a direction of approach of the weld gun to weld point of the plurality of weld points. Thereafter, a set of valid weld gun sizes are calculated based on the estimated plurality of geometric parameters. Similarly all the valid weld gun sizes are calculated corresponding to each of the weld gun approach direction. Further, each set of the valid gun sizes are estimated for each of the weld point for the welding operation. Finally, a weld gun for performing the welding operation is selected based on the set of weld gun sizes corresponding to the welding operation.
