  • Publication number: 20130240487
Abstract: In wire-cut electrical discharge machining apparatuses that simultaneously perform a plurality of cutting processes by engaging a wire between main guide rollers at a plurality of times, a wire-cut electrical discharge machining apparatus is provided that suppresses vibrations at cutting wire sections, to enable the cutting processes under steady-state accuracy. In addition to the main guide rollers, vibration-damping driven guide rollers or vibration-damping guides are included which form a plurality of cutting wire sections where the vibrations are suppressed by guiding the wire into place, and the positions of the cutting wire sections are thereby defined with respect to nozzles.

Abstract: Provided is a wire electrical discharge machining device which has a tension controller for maintaining the tension of a traveling wire electrode at a tension. The tension controller includes: an allowed tension calculation module for determining an allowed tension that is less than a wire breaking tension at which the wire electrode breaks; and a set tension generation module for generating the set tension in accordance with the allowed tension. When the set tension is greater than the allowed tension, the set tension generation module reduces the set tension. When the set tension is less than the allowed tension, the set tension generation module increases the set tension in such a way that the set tension does not exceed the allowed tension.

Abstract: Upper and lower wire guides in a wire-cut electric discharge machine are moved until a wire electrode contacts with a workpiece, and after the contact, the upper and lower wire guides are moved backward to a position A which is away from the contact point at a fixed distance. Then, the upper wire guide is moved until the wire electrode contacts with the workpiece and the upper wire guide is returned to the position A. Subsequently, the lower wire guide is moved until the wire electrode contacts with the workpiece and the lower wide guide is returned to the position A. A coordinate value on the position where the wire electrode contacts with the workpiece is calculated by using position detection values which are obtained in the above respective steps, and board thickness is calculated from the coordinate value.

Thereby, in the compound EDM apparatus, a workpiece can be first processed by the small-hole EDM and subsequently by the wire-cut EDM without repositioning. Accordingly, automatic processing can be achieved. The inability of full automation in wire-cut EDM machines owing to lack of small-hole EDM functionality is improved.
