  • Patent number: 10967158
Abstract: A bi-stable popper valve and a device for detecting blockage in a flow of a fluid are provided. The valve includes a membrane supporting two conformations: in a first conformation the membrane is convex in relation the upstream fluid, and in a second conformation the membrane can be concave in relation to the upstream fluid, such that in the first conformation the flow of the fluid through the membrane is prevented and in the second conformation the flow of the fluid through the membrane is permitted through an pore defined by the membrane in only the second conformation. The membrane changes from the first conformation to the second responsive to a pressure of the fluid meeting or exceeding an opening pressure value of the membrane. A sensor can detect a shift from the first conformation to the second conformation, indicating a flow, or absence of flow, of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 9681770
Abstract: A microwave pressure cooker including safety interlock mechanisms. A blow vent is provided in cooker lid, and a lock bar is pivoted to cooker lid in a position to block blow vent when lock bar is resting under its own weight. Free end of lock bar includes a lock tab. Lock tab extends through slot at periphery of lid. Cooker base includes handle with a cam section ending in a lock wall. Cooker lid is placed on base in a release position and rotated to a locking position. During this rotation lock tab rides over cam section and then falls adjacent lock wall, thus sealing blow vent. After cooking cover is physically prevented from rotating back to release position by lock tab abutting lock wall. User must physically lift lock bar to unseal blow vent to ensure internal pressure is released. A spline may hold lock bar in raised position.

The flap is swingable around the hinge between a first position in which the projection fits in the air hole and a second position in which the air hole is open. The body part and flap are integrally formed. When the flap travels from the second to the first position, a tip of the projection comes into contact with a circumferential edge of the opening of the air hole on a side opposite the hinge, and the projection fits in the air hole as the flap elastically deforms.

  • Patent number: 8875927
Abstract: A container includes a lid adapted to seal with a base. The lid and base rims each have vertical segments that mate upon sealing the container. The mating segments form a vertical seal zone. The vertical seal zone has a width extending across the rim surfaces. One or more vent channels are disposed on either or both rims. Each vent channel extends partially into the vertical seal zone. When pressure inside the container reaches a critical level, the lid rises and reduces the width of the seal zone, creating a vent point. Pressurized vapors traveling through the vent channel overcome rim-engaging forces at the vent point and pass through the engaged rims. Once pressure is purged, the lid descends and resumes its sealed arrangement with the base. The rims may respectively include horizontally oriented segments that engage each other to from a horizontal seal zone.

  • Publication number: 20140263315
Abstract: A variable volume container comprises a sidewall, a base having a ribbed region, and a diaphragm. The ribbed region has a plurality of concentric ribs extending from the diaphragm, and flexure zones between each rib. The flexure zones allow for accordion-like movement of the diaphragm in response to the internal pressure of the container. The ribs are characterized has having a uniformly arced interior curved surface and a distorted arced exterior curved surface. The ribs are four to eight times the width of the flexure zones, and the flexure zones have an exterior surface shorter than its bottom surface. During vacuum sealing, these features allow the diaphragm to retract upward to reduce the volume of the container while maintaining shape and structural stability of the container. This is especially useful for food packaging operations where containers need to be able to withstand conditions such as high pressure, heat, and/or vacuums.

Abstract: The valve sealing system for a reagent package includes an annular cylindrical gasket seated in a channel formed in the package. A rocker valve on the package pivots relative to the annular cylindrical gasket which surrounds an opening to the chamber of the reagent package. The annular channel includes a radially inner peripheral channel sidewall, a radially outer peripheral channel sidewall, and a bottom portion. An inclined peripheral wall portion of the channel intersects one of the channel sidewalls at an obtuse angle and the bottom portion of the channel. When the rocker valve is in a valve closed position it engages the annular cylindrical gasket to provide a substantially leak-tight seal.

Abstract: A leak resistant drinking cup has a diaphragm seal for normally closing an open top of a liquid container of the cup. The seal can be opened to permit liquid to flow past it and out of the cup upon application of a vacuum pressure by the person, typically a small child, drinking from the cup. The diaphragm seal has a peripheral edge margin that can be deflected upward by the vacuum pressure to open a path out of the drinking cup. A hold down rib may be employed to control the locations where the peripheral edge margin is permitted to deflect.

Abstract: A container lid for use with a container with a neck. The lid includes a top and bottom, a skirt extending downward from the circumference of the lid, and a circumferential flange extending radially outward from the lid. The skirt preferably includes at least one integral bead shaped to engage the neck or rim of the container. The lid preferably includes a convex center section including at least one vent. The at least one vent is preferably integral with the lid, and is opened by the steam pressure buildup inside the container when the contents are heated. When the cover is locked on the container, the skirt provides a seal against the outside of the container neck.
