  • Patent number: 7874441
Abstract: A plastic closure includes a plastic closure shell having a base wall with a central opening and a skirt for securing the closure to a container neck finish. A plastic disk includes angularly spaced fingers extending into the central opening of the shell base wall and external beads on the fingers for engaging an inner periphery of the central opening to retain the disk within the shell. The beads have flat undersurfaces and the inner periphery of the central opening has a ledge with a conical surface engaged by the beads. Any doming that occurs in the disk and/or the closure shell base wall increases the surface contact between the finger beads and the opposing surface of the ledge so that removal of the shell from a container neck finish will simultaneously lift and remove the disk from the neck finish without having the beads snap through the central opening in the shell so that the shell is removed while the disk is retained on the neck finish.

  • Patent number: 7806289
Abstract: A closure for a container having a top opening bounded by a rim, includes a generally bowl-shaped body with interior and exterior surfaces and a hole formed on one side of the body. Extending about the body is a connecting section including a skirt and this connecting section seals the body to the container. The interior surface defines an interior space into which the container opens during use of the closure. The body is selectively deformable, upon manual manipulation, between an open configuration wherein fluid can pass through the hole and a closed configuration wherein one of the interior surface and the exterior surface of the body is sealed against the hole. In another embodiment, the closure is formed with a protuberance that projects upwardly from the top surface of the closure. A folding lip is arranged on the front of this protuberance and has a sealable hole formed therein.

  • Patent number: 6588618
Abstract: An injection molded polyethylene paint can comprising the combination of a straight sided plastic container having a snap ring structure spin-welded to the upper peripheral edge thereof and a snap-on lid. The snap ring structure is of the reentrant design and provides an annular locking structure radially interior of a large volume depression. A snap-on lid has legs which fit over the annular structure and sealingly engage inward and outward exterior surfaces thereof. The lid further comprises a pry ring which lies within the large annular depression of the reentrant portion of the snap ring. A brush wiper ring may be provided integrally with the snap ring. Abstract: A lid for a container holding a flowable substance has an annular top wall. A side wall depends from the top wall, and has a mounting portion for connecting the lid on the container. The top wall has an opening that is adapted to permit the flow of the substance through the lid. The top wall also has a retaining member. The lid further has a closure member positioned on the mounting portion. The closure member is movable between a first position and a second position, wherein at least a portion of the closure member is received in the opening in the first position and at least a portion of the closure member is received in the retaining member in the second position. The opening and the closure member are cooperatively dimensioned such that the closure member is removably inserted in the opening. The retaining member and the closure member are cooperatively dimensioned such that the closure member is removably inserted in the retaining member.

  • Patent number: 6460718
Abstract: A plastic cap has one or more hinged flaps that cover openings in the cap, as well as a stepped sealing ring against which the top of a plastic bottle seals. The sealing ring is stepped, much like the rows of seats in a circular stadium. This stepped arrangement permits the cap to be used with many different bottle rim diameters and automatically corrects any ovality of the bottle rim by forcing it to flex into a more circular shape as it engages the steps of the stepped ring.

  • Patent number: 6450358
Abstract: A hygienic beverage can attachment is formed as a cap for a metal pop-top beverage can. The cap attachment is formed of a liquid-impervious, elastically resilient material that has a skirt with a radially inwardly directed lip at its outer periphery and with a drinking port defined completely through its structure. The drinking port is spaced radially inwardly from the periphery of the cap attachment for alignment with the drinking opening in the pop-top beverage can. A collar having a radially outwardly directed flange is located on the underside of the cap coaxially about the drinking port. The cap fits onto the beverage can so that the lip of the skirt engages the bead at the top of the beverage can and so that the lower extremity of the collar projects through the drinking aperture in the top of the can. The flange at the lower extremity of the collar engages the underside of the top of the beverage can at the drinking opening therethrough.
