The sterilization container includes a lid having central portion defined by a frangible region. Upon activation of the frangible region, the central portion may be removed rendering the sterilization container inoperable for future use.

Abstract: A tamper evident cap adapted to close an opening on a vessel includes a main body having an outer circumference, a pull tab extending from the main body, and a flange, forms an annulus around the main body and connected to the main body. The flange includes an outer circumference that is larger than the outer circumference of the main body. It is essential to the present invention that the flange is made of a very thin layer of material. In addition, the flange includes at least a pair of perforation lines. Further, the tamper evident cap includes a bump in the pull-tab for enabling a person grasping the pull-tab, to obtain a firmer hold thereon.

Abstract: A tamper evident fitment assembly for use with a container for flowable material, the closure comprising a cap and a spout secured to the container, the cap having a frangible tamper evident band, the cap having an annular recess for frictionally engaging a top portion of the spout, the cap and spout having cooperating detent and locking elements so that the assembly in a first position where the cap is removably sealed to the spout and the tamper evident band is not broken when the cap is removed for filling may move to a second position when the cap is removably sealed to the spout and the tamper evident band is broken upon removal of the cap. An important feature of the present invention is that the cap frictionally engages a top portion of the spout. No screw threads or similar securing means are required to retain the cap on the spout.

Abstract: Apparatus (10) for securing sample collection, comprises an open-topped container (12), a lid (14) for securely covering the open-topped container (12) to prevent access to container contents, and first and second tamper-evident features (16, 18) each having a frangible portion (20, 22) which fractures in use to provide an indication of tampering with container contents when its respective tamper-evident feature is activated. The first and second tamper-evident features (16, 18) are independently-operable, with activation of the first tamper-evident feature (16) preventing activation of the second tamper-evident feature (18) until the frangible portion (20) of the first tamper-evident feature (16) is fractured. The second tamper evident feature (18) is operable without having to remove the fractured frangible portion (20) of the first tamper evident feature (16) from the apparatus (20).

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a flexible tab used to open beer/beverage can ends and food can ends. The tab has a plurality of slots provided in about a middle part of the tab between a nose portion and a lift portion on opposing sides of the tab. The slots combine to form a fulcrum that extends generally transverse to an axis that passes along a length of the tab. The fulcrum allows the lift portion to pivot upwards and downwards in relation to the nose portion. The tab also has a paneled or beaded area adjacent to the slots at about the middle part of the tab. Tooling for the manufacture of the flexible tab is also provided. A method for manufacturing the flexible tab is additionally provided as well.

Abstract: An easy-open end which comprises a steel sheet and formed on at least one side thereof an about 10-30 mum-thick coating film of a polyester resin having a 50% crystallization time of about 5 minutes or shorter and a coefficient of planar orientation of about 0.04 or lower and which has a groove for cutting which has a cross section having a radius of curvature of about 0.1 to 1 mm; and a laminated steel sheet for use in the easy-open end. This easy-open end can combine suitability for opening and no need of repair even when the residual score thickness is small.

Abstract: A container for liquids such as soft drinks, and the like is provided with a relief bore valve which is formed as a small scribed area at the top of the container. When the ring-pull tab of the container is depressed, it will puncture the scribed area to form the relief bore valve. This will slowly release pressurized carbonation within the container, thereby avoiding the usual explosive release of gas and liquids. Upwardly lifting the ring-pull tab in the reverse direction will then puncture the larger, scribed area for drinking use. Use of the relief bore valve also enables a more uniform, uninterrupted drainage of the liquid while drinking, while still maintaining most of the original carbonation.

Abstract: A tamper evident closure for a container having a bead provided on the outside surface of the neck thereof. The closure includes a top section and an outer skirt extending downwardly from the top section. The outer skirt includes a tamper evident strip extending along only a portion of the outer perimeter. The tamper evident strip is connected to a remaining portion of the outer skirt by a tear membrane, wherein the tamper evident strip may be separated from the remaining portion along the tear membrane. A first lug is provided at least partially on an inner surface of the temper evident strip and one or more second lugs are provided on an inner surface of the remaining portion of the outer skirt. The first lug and the one or more second lugs are each adapted to engage the bead on container to secure the closure to the container.

Abstract: A two-piece closure and tamper evident band assembly for use with a container neck having a peripheral bead is shown. The closure includes a top having a depending skirt. The skirt includes a break-away band frangibly connected to a bottom periphery of the skirt. The tamper evident band includes means for tearing and a lower ledge extending from a lower periphery of the band. The break-away band is positioned above the lower ledge. The closure and tamper evident band assembly is inserted onto the container neck, and when the closure is removed, the peripheral bead prevents the lower ledge and the tamper evident band from moving upward. As the closure moves up the container neck, the means for tearing tears the frangible connectors so that the break-away band and the tamper evident band remain positioned on the container.

The lid has a mounting portion configured to connect the lid to the container and an annular side wall extending upward from the mounting portion. The lid also includes a top wall extending radially inward from the side wall, wherein the top wall has both a circular outer periphery and a circular inner periphery. An upwardly extending protrusion is pivotally connected to the top wall by a hinge. A central portion is positioned radially inward of the top wall, wherein the central portion has a circular outer periphery. The central portion is vertically positioned between the mounting portion and the top wall. The protrusion is pivotable about the hinge between a sealed position and an open position to define a drink opening residing entirely within the top wall.

Abstract: A tamper-evident closure including a spout and a cap. The spout includes an upwardly extending neck defining a neck opening, an annular cap-engaging retainer extending radially outwardly from the neck, and a fulcrum interconnecting the cap-engaging retainer and the neck. The cap selectively seals the neck opening and includes a top, an annular skirt depending from the top, and a tamper-evidencing band frangibly connected to a lower end of the annular skirt. The tamper-evidencing band has a radially inwardly extending spout-engaging retainer. The cap-engaging retainer is adapted to engage the spout-engaging retainer when the cap is removed from the neck to limit upward movement of the tamper-evidencing band with respect to the neck. A method of using the tamper-evident closure is also disclosed.

The lid further includes a central region positioned radially inward of the top wall. The central region has a well with a notched portion. A living hinge formed by a line of weakness at the base of the projection permits the projection to pivot between an open position and a closed position. The central region has a shoulder portion that engages the tip of the projection to secure the projection in the open position.

Abstract: An end closure for a container providing a tab with increased resistance to rotation upon a rivet is disclosed. The end closure has a central panel wall having a product side, a public side, a rivet, and a displaceable tear panel in the central panel wall at least substantially defined by a frangible score and a non-frangible hinge segment. A tab is attached to the public side of the central panel wall by the rivet. At least a nose portion of the tab extends over a portion of the tear panel. A lift end of the tab is opposite the tab nose. The tab has a central webbing between the nose and the lift end. The central webbing has an anti-rotation member in communication with the public side of the central panel wall. The anti-rotation member provides a spring force against the central panel wall.

Abstract: There is disclosed a tamper-evident device for a closure assembly adapted to be applied to a mouth of a container, for example, a neck of a bottle. There has been identified a need for an improved tamper-evident device which does not have any parts which are removed upon initial opening and which are liable to be reattached by counterfeits or the like. Accordingly the present invention provides a tamper-evident device comprising a sleeve member which comprises a first portion associated with a second portion by a frangible portion therebetween, and wherein said first portion is adapted to be applied to a mouth and neck portion of a container, and said second portion is associated with a container closure member, and wherein an initial container opening operation causes said frangible portion to fracture or break such that when the container is reclosed said first and second portions are located in a spaced apart relationship to one another.

The lid 1 further includes a central region 4 positioned radially inward of the top wall 5. The central region 4 has a well 4b with a notched portion 24. The lid 1 also includes a projection 18 extending from a portion of the side wall 6. A living hinge formed by a line of weakness at the base 23 of the projection 18 permits the projection 18 to pivoted between an open position and a closed position. The central region 4 has a shoulder portion 24 that engages the tip 20 of the projection 18 to secure the projection 18 in the open position.

The lid part is latched to the body at lateral positions located between the hinge and the cover part. The cover part covers a lifting lip extending from the lid part. Removal of the cover part exposes the lifting lip for lifting by the user to open the lid part from the closure body.

Abstract: A drink-through cup lid, adapted to matingly engage the upper peripheral edge of a drinking cup so as to selectively maintain the lid in a covering relationship on the cup, includes a rim engaging portion and a central cover portion. The central cover portion further has a hinged portion which is selectively depressible to so as to provide a drinking opening in the lid, the hinged portion is biased so as to selectively substantially return to its normally closed position within the plane of the central cover portion upon removal of pressure there-against. The hinged portion includes a hollow raised tab integrally formed thereon. A recess which is integrally formed on the central cover portion of the lid is adapted to selectively receive the raised tab of the hinged portion in detachable locking engagement.

Abstract: A container includes first and second intersecting surfaces, and has at least one tearstrip opening to permit access to the contents of the container. The opening is positioned substantially at the intersection of those surfaces to permit drainage of substantially all of the contents of the container through the opening formed upon tearing of the tearstrip. Where the intersection is formed by a lid and a container wall, the lid has an outermost edge and the opening is positioned sufficiently near to the outermost edge to permit the desired drainage but also either does not tear the outermost edge (because the opening is sufficiently inwardly from the outermost edge) or does not destroy the hoop strength of a downwardly-depending hoop flange formed at the outermost edge. A plurality of such tearstrips may be provided and may be spaced from each other to provide pouring and/or venting in a variety of directions.

Abstract: A drink-through lid for a disposable cup that contains a condiment port for the convenient addition of condiments to the beverage without having to remove the lid from the cup. The condiment port is on the opposite side of the lid from the drinking port to insure that the beverage does not contact the condiment port while the user is drinking out of the drinking port. When not in use, the condiment port is substantially blocked by a resilient cap that is integral with the cover. This cap can be selectively deformed to open the condiment port and introduce condiments into the beverage. The cap is biased to return to its original closed position when the deforming pressure is removed. The cap preferably forms a trough when deformed to help funnel the condiments into the condiment port and help prevent spilling.

Abstract: A method of providing access to the contents of a disposable drink cup having a plastic drink-through lid of the type having a deck, a peripheral skirt, and a partially separable, preformed tab in the deck to form a drink-through hold which does not extend through the peripheral skirt. The tab has an upstanding thumb catch preformed thereon. The fold back hinge is formed in the deck immediately adjacent the tab and spaced less than about one-half of the lid radius from the periphery. This creates a very short throw which allows a user to open the tab and lock it back with one finger of the same hand that is holding the cup.

Abstract: A tamper evident hinge type closure includes, as is conventional in such closures, a body portion, a lid portion and a hinge portion. Advantageously, at least one tamper evident band is provided so as to mechanically secure the lid portion to the body portion at a position that is distal from the hinge. The tamper evident band, which is designed to break upon initial opening of the closure by a consumer, is preferably integral with both the body portion and the lid portion, so as to ensure more reliably than was possible with interlocking mechanical tamper evident structures that the closure may not be opened without defeating the tamper evident band. A process for making the improved closures is also disclosed.

The lid may also include seal portions extending upwardly from the platform on both sides of the depressed pull-tab area. The invention may be employed on lids either with or without a peripheral groove. Another feature of the invention is a pull-tab with an arch handle and special puncture tip for easier more comfortable use by consumers.

Abstract: An easy opening can end is provided whose can end panel is made of steel sheet having both sides coated with resin layers which each include at least one type of thermoplastic resin and which have elongation after break of 100% or more, tensile strength of 10 kg/mm2 or more, Young modulus of 100 kg/mm2 or more and a thickness in range of 10 to 100 &mgr;m. A score is formed on at least one of a front or a back side of the can end panel so as to be capable of breakage for opening the can end. The score has a bottom cross-section in a shape of an arc having a radius in a range of 0.10 to 1.0 mm, and a thinnest section of the score has a thickness t in a range of 0.025 to 0.080 mm. The easy opening can end has no problem of resin layer damage when the score is formed and has excellent can openability to such an extent that children and the aged may easily open the can end, so that the easy opening can end is most suitable for a can end of a beverage can and a food can.

The deformable section is at least partially separable from the central lid portion so it can be deformed in an over center manner or other manner such that deformation of the deformable section toward the raised portion results in the deformable section assuming a stable open position exposing an opening or hole through the lid into the container and deformation of the deformable section from open position results in the deformable section assuming a stable closed position over the opening or hole.

The first fastener secures a first portion of the strap to the conduit by forming a first loop. Removal of the closure member from the outlet breaks the second loop but leaves the first loop intact on the conduit.

The membrane is severable from the spout at the edge region. The edge region is selectively thinned and has a pair of first thickness regions and a pair of second thickness regions interposed between the first thickness regions. The second thickness regions have a thickness that is greater than a thickness of the first thickness regions.

A transparent plastic form contains a series of separate trough-shaped spice compartments with open faces. The plastic form, when filled with the spices, is sealed to the front layer of a double-layer chipboard backing, such that the open periphery of the spice compartments exactly matches a cutout in the front layer. The back layer has a peelable strip with a peripheral perforation exactly back-to-back with the cutout periphery in the front layer. The names of the spices and the recipe as a whole may be printed on the front layer next to the sealed spice compartments. Abstract: A dispensing liner for a container includes a seal element having a sealing edge and a central portion. The sealing edge is engaged with and sealed to a land portion of a container to close the opening in the container. The seal element includes a preferentially formed score line having a first frangible portion and a second portion defining a removable tab. The first frangible portion and the second portion are formed within the central portion of the liner with the second portion in spaced relation and adjacent to the sealing edge. The liner is opened along at least the first frangible portion to define a dispensing port. The periphery of the liner, at the sealing edge, forms a seal with the cap when the cap is engaged with the container after the liner is opened. The tab can be removed from the liner leaving the sealing edge in place to effect a seal between the liner and the cap.

Abstract: A one piece closure for a container is described in which the closure has a break-open, reclosable lid. The lid is formed integrally with the closure and is defined by frangible lines of weakness formed in the closure. In use, the lid is initially held in its closed position by way of the unbroken frangible lines of weakness. The user exerts a downward force on the lid so as to break the lid from the closure. The lid is hinged to the closure by means of molded-in-place hinges. The lid has a lid closing tab integrally molded with the lid with the closing tab being disposed on the other side of the hinge line from the lid. As the lid and the closing tab are broken clear of the closure, the lid rotates downwardly about the hinge line into the container and the closing tab rotates upwardly.

Abstract: A tamper-evident closure for a container is provided. The container is formed with means at its open upper end for making a snap fit locking connection with a cover. The container has a peripheral flange with a skirt section that surrounds and is spaced radially from the container's side wall, and the cover has a depending skirt that extends down around the upper end of the container and has a free bottom edge that lies immediately adjacent to the flange. The flange has an outer surface that is flush with the adjacent portion of the outer surface of the skirt, so that essentially the flange appear to be a continuation of the skirt. As a consequence the closure formed by the cover (lid) and the container is resistant to opening by a small child.

A tear-back flap is defined by fault lines stamped into the top surface and a "U"-shaped hinge formed in the top surface.

Abstract: A plastic screw cap for the closure of a plastic container is provided for the closure of a container made of plastics. The screw cap has a simple configuration similar to corresponding closures for metal containers, but nevertheless ensures stable and sealed seating of the closure on the container opening. The screw cap is provided with an extension, extending radially over the side of the screw cap, which is made from a material which can be welded to the material from which the container lid is made.

Abstract: Disclosed is a multi-purpose beverage canister which can be split into upper and lower sections. The canister has an upper tab provided at an upper surface of the canister, a seal member which is attached at the upper surface of the canister and is opened by drawing the upper tab upwards, a take-off strip for binding upper and lower sections of the canister, and a lower tab fixed to the take-off strip. The canister is re-used as a cup, pencil case, and vessel, thereby not only reducing trash, but also preventing resources from wasting.

Abstract: An end panel for a full-open end closure for a container comprising a rim portion, a removable central panel portion connected to the rim portion for detachment by an opening implement, an array of closely spaced push-in closure members dimensioned and spaced to receive the prongs of a standard domestic fork as the opening implement. The closure members are in a generally linear array adjacent the rim portion and the fork engages the openings defining the closure members and is levered against the rim to remove the central panel portion from the rim. Alternatively, the closure members are in a radial linear array extending towards the center of the central panel portion with the outermost closure member adjacent the rim portion so that the central panel portion can be conveniently levered from the rim portion without the need for a special opening implement.

Abstract: An easy open end for food and beverage cans having reduced aluminum content is provided in an end having a metal polymer metal laminate construction. An opening panel as defined in the end body by a pair of first and second spaced apart score lines disposed in the first and second major surfaces, respectively. Each of the first and second score lines define an area of reduced thickness for both the metal layer and the adjacent polymer layer. The opening panel can be displaced from the remainder of the end body to provide an easy opening can by perforating the end body at a point along the first and second score lines.

Abstract: An end piece for a drawn and ironed container is disclosed. The end piece has a score which defines an openable section for accessing the contents of the container. The score includes at least one reservoir for post repair material which is deposited into the main portion of the score while the end piece is rotated. The reservoir functions to receive post repair material which is forced out of the main portion of the score during this rotation of the end piece and/or to actually generate forces which counteract the centrifugal forces exerted on the post repair material such that it is retained within the main portion of the score.

Abstract: A container which has a top with two concentrically mounted lids, a first lid attached to and sealing the container and a second lid rotatably mounted to the first lid. The first lid has a weakened surface region formed by scoring, scribing or grooving. The first and second lids have nested embossments which are interengageable to apply a predetermined pressure to fracture the weakened region and form a pour aperture in the first lid when the second lid is rotated relative to the first lid. The second lid also has an aperture which is brought into an overlying relationship with the aperture in the first lid when the second lid is rotated relative to the first lid, thus allowing the contents of the container to be dispensed.
