  • Patent number: 6409021
Abstract: A food serving tray, preferably of polystyrene foam, is provided having a base and bounding side walls. The base is formed with at least two bottom walls and at least one partition interposed therebetween. To provide enhanced stability and rigidity to the tray, protrusions, preferably step-shaped, are formed in the side walls located between the crests of the partitions and the top edges of the side walls. The protrusions provide changes in direction in the side walls which enhance the strength and rigidity of the tray. In addition, the bottom walls may be dished concavely so as to have portions extend upwardly. Under loading, the dished bottom walls become flattened and bi-axially stressed to further enhance the overall strength and stability of the tray.

  • Patent number: 5984131
Abstract: The invention is generally directed to a plate-lid for serving selected food items which are to be used in connection with a beverage container. An inner circular ribbed region of the plate-lid snaps over the annular ridge or rim of the beverage container thereby forming a seal to prevent spillage of liquid from the beverage container. The ribbed region includes a plurality of inwardly directed lands with a plurality of flutes of varying circumferential lengths positioned between the lands in order to space the lands about the inner plate-lid. The outer area of the plate-lid provides sections or wells for the placement of food stuffs and/or condiments. This mating means serves to resist lateral movement between the beverage container and the food holding section or tray when they are joined together. The plate-lid also provides the option for a straw insertion in a location where the straw will not interfere with the food items or condiments being served on the plate-lid.

  • Patent number: 5511755
Abstract: A container holder for a vehicle includes a flat panel section defining a marginal flange for engaging a mating structure on a vehicle component, such as an armrest or a floor console, and one or more cup-shaped members. The cup-shaped members include a floor and a resilient sidewall which can be resiliently flexed to move the floor between a lowered position and a raised position. In the lowered position, the cup-shaped member forms a shallow depression shaped to receive and stably support a first container. In the raised position, an aperture in the floor of the cup-shaped member receives a smaller diameter container such that the marginal material forming the aperture supports the sides of the container.

  • Patent number: 5509633
Abstract: A cup holder for a vehicle includes a vehicle panel having a horizontal support surface and a pair of opposing spaced apart walls rising above the support surface and defining the dimensional extent of the support surface. A block of compressible foam material is adapted for placement on the support surface and has at least one cavity therein adapted to hold a cup. The block of foam has opposed end walls spaced apart to fit closely between the spaced apart walls of the vehicle panel so that the block of foam material is held in place by the interaction of the respective end walls of the block and the vehicle panel. The block is removable from the vehicle panel by compressing the foam block to effect this engagement of the end walls of the foam block from the vehicle panel end walls.

  • Patent number: 5497885
Abstract: A lap tray is disclosed for carrying food such as that available from a take-out or fast food restaurant. The lap tray has particular application for use by an individual wishing to consume the food carried on the tray while riding as a passenger in a motor vehicle that is subjected to the usual road turbulence. The lap tray includes a pair of food serving compartments, each of which is surrounded by a raised lip to prevent food carried thereon from falling off the tray. A raised annular rim surrounds a hole formed through the tray in which a drinking cup is received so as to retain the cup in an upright configuration and thereby prevent the cup from tipping and spilling its contents. A pair of legs depends from the tray at opposite sides thereof to extend downwardly along the legs of the user so as to stabilize the tray against lateral displacement when the user is seated and the tray is laid across the user's lap.

  • Patent number: 5441164
Abstract: A combination food and beverage plate has a generally circular bottom section with an upper surface and a lower surface. A generally cylindrically shaped side wall is contiguous with and extends upwardly from the perimeter of the upper surface of the bottom section. A generally cylindrically shaped support cylinder is contiguous with and extends upwardly from the upper surface of the bottom section. The support cylinder includes an opening at its upper extent. A plurality of planar, generally rectangular shaped food dividers are contiguous with and extend upwardly from the upper surface of the bottom section. Each divider has an inner edge and an outer edge, with the inner edge abutting the center support cylinder and extending radially outwardly therefrom. The outer edge of the divider abuts the side wall.

Abstract: A plate (12) for use with stemware (14) that has a center portion (16) and an outer periphery (24) with a notch (28) therethrough that lead to an aperture (30) that passes through the plate. The aperture is substantially surrounded by a rim (32) that is coplanar with the upper edge of the periphery and a lower lip (36) that is coplanar with the central portion. A base foot (20) is under the central portion and elevates the lip to allow a stemware foot flange (58) to fit under the lip when the stem and plate are seated flat on a table surface (19).

Abstract: The present tray has a base with an imaginary center line running from front to back and evenly distanced from the left and right sides. There is a first orifice through the top of the base biased to one side of the center line. This orifice is adapted to receive a beverage vessel and includes a cutout running from the side of the base to the first orifice to permit lateral insertion of a beverage vessel into the first orifice. There is a second orifice through the top of the base which is circular in shape and biased toward one side of the center line opposite the first orifice. The second orifice is adapted to receive a food plate. There is a first notch located on the top of the base on the front of the base near the center line. This notch is adapted to receive an area between a thumb and a first finger of a user. There is a second notch which is similar and located on the top of the base on the back of the base near the center line.

Abstract: A portable food tray for supporting food and a drink container which is adapted to be securely and comfortably held by one hand of the user. The nestable food tray is formed from a sheet material and has a generally flat surface portion and a cup-like portion for supporting a drink container. An interconnecting wall portion connects the cylindrical wall of the cup-like portion to the flat surface portion so that sufficient space is provided to permit the thumb and at least the index finger of the user to surround and grip the outside of the cylindrical wall. The peripheral outer edge portion of the tray has convex and concave side edge portions so that the concave portion can be held closely against the user's body. The tray includes two ribs that divide the flat surface portion into separate compartments and that serve to strengthen the tray. The underside of the ribs are sized so as to accommodate a portion of the hand or wrist to further support and stabilize the tray.

  • Patent number: 5341953
Abstract: A partitioned cereal bowl with a region for dry cereal and another for liquid such as milk. A cereal bowl is provided, which precludes cereal from oversoaking, by partitioning it into a dry cereal-holding region and a liquid (milk)-holding region. The cereal-holding region is sloped in order to facilitate a sliding or scooping transfer of its contents over the partition and into the liquid-holding region. The base of the liquid-holding region is troughed in order to facilitate removal of all the liquid or cereal contained therein. Two embodiments exist to the invention, a first having a cereal region sloped base which descends to the partition from about the rim of the bowl and, an alternate version, in which the cereal region's sloped base ascends from near the bottom of the bowl to the crest of the partition.
