Including Abutment Or Retaining Means To Hold Closure In Open Position Patents (Class 220/831)
  • Patent number: 5992681
Abstract: A door latch assembly, such as for a battery compartment of an electronic device, is disclosed. The door latch assembly comprises a housing having a pair of opposed, spaced flattened pins defining an elongated surface having a depth and a generally perpendicular narrowed surface having a thickness. The door latch assembly further comprises a door having first and second clasps for receiving the respective first and second pins. Each of the clasps includes an aperture and a slot leading to the aperture. The aperture has a breadth substantially equal to the depth of the elongated surface, and the slot has a gap substantially equal to the thickness of the narrowed surface. When assembling the door to the housing, each of the slots slides over the respective elongated surface to receive and captures the respective pin in the respective aperture.

  • Patent number: 5975346
Abstract: A container for holding paint or other liquids and a method for making same. The container includes a body having a bottom wall and a side wall extending from the bottom wall along the periphery of the bottom wall which terminates in an upper rim. The container also includes an annular retaining ring secured to the upper rim. The annular retaining ring forms an outlet/inlet through which a liquid can be placed or removed from the container. The container further includes a lid pivotally and detachably mounted to the annular retaining ring for movement between an open position and closed position with respect to the outlet/inlet and for removing the lid from the annular retaining ring. The lid, body and annular retaining ring are individually molded and secured together by simple fastening means.

  • Patent number: 5975345
Abstract: A lid assembly for a refuse container includes a lid member pivotally attached to the upper surface of the refuse container, a lid prop and a mechanism for pivotally attaching the lid prop to the container. The lid member includes a cam-shaped lobe which contacts the upper surface of the container when the lid member is in an open position limiting the range of pivoting motion of the lid member. The lid member further includes a bottom surface and a front surface. When pivoted to a lid supporting position, a lid supporting surface of the lid prop contacts the bottom surface of the lid member and a flange of the lid prop faces the front surface of the lid member. The lid prop is pivotally coupled to the refuse container such that gravity forces the flange toward the front surface of the lid member when the container is in its upright position.

  • Patent number: 5967392
Abstract: A truck cargo bed utility box blow molded of high density polyethylene which complements the styling of many truck bedliners. The utility box incorporates a mounting system for a central pneumatic spring which holds the lid of the box open. The mounting system consists of a bracket mounted to a wall forming part of the storage bin and a bracket on the bin lid. The lid bracket and the bin bracket extend to and engage with a hinge pin which joins the lid to the storage bin. The brackets are constructed of sheet metal and are mechanically joined by the hinge pin. The loads imposed on the lid and bin wall by the air spring are distributed through the hinge pin. The bin bracket is also attached to a metal rim which surrounds the opening into the box to provide load distribution. The metal rim provides a distortion resistant structure to which locking hasps can reliably latch. By distributing the loads imposed on the plastic lid and plastic bin distortion of the plastic is prevented.

  • Patent number: 5957318
Abstract: The present invention relates to a brewing vessel comprising a manhole opening which is closable by a lockable lid. To obtain a simple locking mechanism which, in particular, does not create any unaccessible space, the locking ring is supported on the outside of the frame and comprises at least one locking bolt which cooperates with a recess formed in a collar of the lid.

  • Patent number: 5934496
Abstract: A closure for a container and a method of producing the same is set forth. The closure is a single integrally-molded spout, cap and hinge assembly joining the spout and the cap. The closure may also have a membrane and pull-ring, also integrally molded as one piece. The cap may have at least one prop for preventing interference from the cap with the pouring of the contents of the container. Additionally, the spout may have a step for assisting in the prevention of interference from the cap during pouring, and for providing a predetermined sound every time that the cap is opened. Further, the closure may have a tamper-evident member to indicate that the closure has been opened. Still further, the closure may have an orienting peg for properly orienting the closure on a container.
