  • Patent number: 5715965
Abstract: A hatch in road or rail tanker (2) includes a hatch cover (7) mounted in a flange (8) of a compartment manhole (9). In order to prevent leaks from the hatch cover (7), a band (13) is welded to the top of the tank (2) around compartment manhole (9). The band (13) includes an outwardly concave flange (14) providing a groove for receiving a hatch sealing device (15). The hatch sealing device (15) includes a generally cylindrical rubber cylinder having an open end and a closed end closed by a seal membrane, also of rubber. Around the inside of the rim forming open end there is provided an internally extending lip shaped to fit into concave flange (14). Around the outside of the cylinder is provided a split ring of metal, the ends of which are drawn together in order to radially compress the cylinder and thus seal it around the flange (14).

  • Patent number: 5305415
Abstract: A portable electric wallpaper steamer has a generator (G) including a base (1) and lid (2), both injection molded of plastic material. An elastomeric sealing ring (29) is seated in a recess in a circumferential interengagement zone between the lid and base and is held compressed by the interengagement of engagement members (24) on the lid with cooperating engagement members (39) on the base. The lid-engagement members (24) and base-engagement members (39) comprise integrally molded parts of the lid and base and one or both are resiliently deformable so that they can be brought into snap-fit engagement with each other by downward movement of the lid relative to the base to form a steam pressure tight seal. An electric heating element (6) is mounted in the base for heating water therein to generate steam. The lid includes a handle (9), filling port (10), safety valve (13) and a steam outlet port (21) connected to a wall paper steaming plate (W) by a pipe.

  • Patent number: 5238141
Abstract: A cover includes a base plate having a radial slot directed into the base plate medially thereof to receive a handle stem of a handle of a conventional L.P. tank valve assembly. The base plate includes a cover cap hingedly mounted to the base plate diametrically aligned relative to the slot, with the base plate and cover cap including cooperating flanges and cooperating apertures within the flanges to receive a lock member simultaneously through the flanges to secure the cover cap in an overlying contiguous communication to the base plate to prevent access to the valve handle preventing unauthorized rotation of the valve handle.

  • Patent number: 4830058
Abstract: A cap includes a closure portion rotatably engaging the filler neck for closing the filler neck and an outer shell for providing a hand grip to permit rotation of the cap about an axis. A clutch is included in the cap for selectively providing an operative connection between the outer shell and the closure portion so that rotation of the outer shell relative to the filler neck in a cap-removal direction will rotate the closure portion in the cap-removal direction. An actuator is provided for activating the clutch means. The actuator is reciprocable relative to the outer shell in operative directions substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the outer shell to control activation of the clutch.

  • Patent number: 4288001
Abstract: A pressure device is provided with a cover member which is removably attached thereto by a pair of clamping rings which are hydraulically actuated laterally outwardly and inwardly relative to flanges on the pressure device and cover member to respectively release the cover and interengage the cover with the device. The clamping rings are pivotally interconnected with the device such that lateral outward displacement of the clamping rings is accompanied by radial outward displacement of the pivot axis to provide clearance for removal of the cover member. The clamping ring members are guided during a portion of the lateral inward and outward displacement thereof, and the guide arrangement supports the clamping rings in the laterally outermost positions thereof.

  • Patent number: 4122969
Abstract: Disclosed is a safety closure apparatus for a pressure vessel, particularly for a vessel such as a pump stabilizer which has a gas compartment and a liquid compartment therein, both of which are normally pressurized. The apparatus includes a safety head configured to cover the closure means of the vessel to prevent its actuation; a liquid pressure bleed valve which must be removed before the safety hood can be moved off of the closure means, thereby insuring depressurization of the liquid compartment prior to opening; and gas pressure bleed means automatically operable upon movement of the safety hood off of the closure means, thereby also insuring depressurization of the gas compartment before access can be had to the closure means to actuate it to open the vessel.

  • Patent number: 4093104
Abstract: A locking mechanism for a door of an autoclave made up of a vent plate, a diaphragm, and a seat and a pressure plate that engages a locking mechanism on the side of the diaphragm remote from the pressure side. The seat has a counterbore adjacent to its inner edge defining a shoulder. The diaphragm is clamped to the seat outwardly of the counterbore and the pressure plate can move into engagement with the flat surface defined by the counterbore when gas is under pressure in the chamber forcing the pressure plate against the door locking mechanism. The surface of the seat between the outer flat surface and the shoulder is contoured providing a smooth surface for the diaphragm to engage.
