Radiator Cap Patents (Class 220/DIG32)
  • Patent number: 4147273
Abstract: The specification discloses a valved closure for a heat exchanger, such as the radiator of a liquid cooled vehicle engine, such radiators usually having an upper liquid chamber with an upstanding, flanged filling neck. The valved closure includes an annular adaptor on the upper end of the filling neck and having a valve seat, upstanding guide bearings on opposite sides of the adaptor, a valve element having a spherically curved portion in sealing engagement with the seat and having a through passageway generally chordally of the spherical portion and rotatable to shift the passageway into communication with the neck, aligned shafts extending from the valve element for rotation in respective guide bearings with the valve element when the latter changes position, and resilient tension means connected between the shafts and adaptor to urge the valve element into its seat sealing relation.

  • Patent number: 4136795
Abstract: A cap for a radiator filler neck of the type having a peripherally extending upper lip and, downwardly from the lip, a radially inwardly and peripherally extending, upwardly facing pressure valve seat concentric with the axes defined by the neck and the cap. The cap comprises an outer shell for engaging and closing the filler neck, a molded plastic retainer connected to the outer shell, and a molded plastic pressure valve member for engaging the valve seat. The retainer has a peripherally and radially outwardly extending flange and a downwardly extending shank, a sealing ring is carried by the flange for engaging and sealing against the upper lip, and the valve member is provided with an upwardly extending shank. The shanks have interlocking portions for connecting the valve member to the retainer and a spring is disposed about the shanks for yieldably urging the valve member against the valve seat as well as to maintain the interlocking portions in engagement.

  • Patent number: 4036399
Abstract: A gas tank cap has an inner part connectable to a gas tank filler pipe and an outer part biased outwardly away from the inner part by a spring and normally freely rotatable relative to the inner part. One or more passages in the cap communicate with the filler pipe and with the ambient atmosphere and have valves interposed in them which are so positioned that when the outer part is pushed towards the inner part the valves are automatically opened to vent pressure from the gas tank. Only after the valves have opened in response to pushing of the outer part towards the inner part do the two parts become coupled for subsequent joint rotation so as to permit removal of the gas cap from the filler pipe.

  • Patent number: 3974936
Abstract: A closure cap for containers or for use as a pipe socket closure including a rigid partition having a pair of valves acting in opposite directions for automatically compensating for pressure inequalities on either side of the partition. The valves include additional means for providing improved sealing support on the partition under the action of compression springs.
