    Abstract: The invention relates to vending machines for dispensing of a single copy of a printed publication, such as a newspaper or a magazine. The vending machine is self-contained, enclosing a power source, a driving motor and a control unit for operation of the dispensing mechanism. A stack of folded newspapers, or magazines, is placed in an upright position on a platform bearing plate and is retained in an upright orientation by a support plate which slides along the top surface of the platform bearing plate, moving the newspapers closer to a dispensing chute formed in a front part of the vending machine housing. One or more metering breaks are mounted on a top surface of the platform plate adjacent to the dispensing edge of the platform bearing plate to facilitate separation of a single copy of the newspaper prior to dispensing.

    Abstract: A feed mechanism for use with a paintball gun having an infeed tube for receiving paintballs that are to be fired from the paintball gun. The feed mechanism includes a storage container, a feeder tube, a feed structure, an electric motor and a switch for automatically stopping the electric motor. The storage container holds paintballs and has a bottom wall with a feeder opening therein. The feeder tube is connected to the infeed tube so as to form a feed path. The feed structure has a passage that extends between the feeder opening of the storage container and the feeder tube. The passage is defined in part by a first surface secured to the periphery of a first wheel and a second surface secured to the periphery of a second wheel. The first and second surfaces have a spacing therebetween that is smaller than the diameter of the paintballs. The first and second surfaces are composed of a deformable material that grips paintballs at the feeder opening.

    Abstract: There are used article display shelves each comprising a plurality of article storing compartments arranged vertically and laterally, the article storing compartments each holding a plurality of articles in a front-declined state, and the articles in each article storing compartment are held by means of a stopper, the stopper being capable of moving between an article holding position for inhibiting free fall of article and an article release position for permitting free fall of article. On the premise that money is paid, a bucket is conveyed to a position where a desired article is to be dropped from the article storing compartment which holds the article, and the position of the stopper is shifted to the article release position by an operation performed on the bucket side. As a result, the desired article is put into the bucket, which bucket is then conveyed up to an article take-out port. In this way the sale of article is effected.

    Abstract: The invention relates to vending machines for dispensing of a single copy of a printed publication one-at-a-time. The vending machine is self contained, is provided with a power source, a driving motor and a control unit for operation of the vending machine. An inclined platform plate mounted within the vending machine carries a plurality of media units, while a push plate forces the media units toward a dispensing channel located adjacent a forward edge of the platform plate. When a single copy of the media unit moves through the dispensing channel, a light sensor sends a signal to the control unit which causes reversal of movement of the push plate, thereby preventing accidental dispensing of the next copy of the media unit by gravity. After an entire inventory of the media units resting on a platform plate has been dispensed, a limit switch sends a signal to the control unit allowing vending of a display copy.

The drug cases are detachably connected to a multiplicity of drive boxes which may be mounted onto the frame along the inclined rails. The drug cases are arranged in such a manner that their outlets are oriented towards a central portion of a hopper. Each drive box is also provided with guide rails and contains therein a motor which has an axle oriented towards its corresponding drug case. When a drug case slides along the guide rails to fit onto its corresponding drive box, a coupling of a feeding element of the drug case just fits onto the axle of the motor.

The plunger mechanism dispenses product from a column until the column is depleted of products. A controller senses product depletion and rotates the carousel to align another column with the plunger assembly. After all products have been dispensed, the controller blocks a coin insertion slot, displays a "sold-out" sign, and shuts the machine off. The vending machine also includes a device for allowing refilling of the carousel and a device for resetting the coin slot and "sold-out" sign. The vending machine also incluces a separate currency slot for accepting donations.

    Abstract: A mechanical system opens a selected drawer in a multiple-drawer cabinet. The drawers are arranged in rows and columns. A selected drawer is unlatched by moving a rod which has protruding fingers, only one of which is positioned to engage a latch in a column of drawers. When the rod moves longitudinally, the selected drawer becomes unlatched. The unlatched drawer can open only to a distance determined by a cable which unwinds from a drum and passes around a pulley attached to the drawer. Thus, by controlling the rotation of the drum, the system can be programmed to open the drawer only to a distance which exposes the first non-empty compartment in the drawer. A computer controls the selection and opening of the drawers. The computer keeps a record of which compartments of each drawer have been emptied. Each time a drawer is opened, it is opened to the next non-empty compartment, allowing access to one and only one compartment in the drawer.

    Abstract: A merchandise push-out device for a vending machine, which pushes forward the lowermost piece of merchandise in a merchandise stocker in which merchandise is stacked vertically and supports the remaining pieces of stacked merchandise in a substantially horizontal position. A rocking arm has an upper end which is rocked back and forth from a support shaft by a motor drive. A merchandise push-out roller is attached to the upper end of the rocking arm, and a merchandise support roller is attached to the push-out roller below it with a link. When the rocking arm is rocked, the push-out roller, utilizing vertical play in the rocking arm, is moved forward in the horizontal linear direction to push-out the lowermost piece of merchandise. While the lowermost merchandise is being pushed out, the upper merchandise is supported by the support roller, which is pulled into place by the push-out roller. The push-out member and the support member work in tandem to prevent the upper merchandise from tilting extensively.

    Abstract: Applicant's invention comprises a single-vend dispensing machine particularly applicable to vending newspapers. The apparatus includes a platform along which a supply of newspapers (or magazines) are advanced by a specially configured push plate. Individual copies are advanced to a vend position by operation of a frictional roller which engages the foremost single copy and advances it over a platform edge to a vend position. A copy in the vend position rests against a trap door a lock for which is briefly disengaged upon payment by a customer for allowing the copy to fall to an access slot for recovery by the customer. After removal of the copy, a new copy is advanced to the vend position by friction roller. A biased bailer aids in maintaining the front-most copy in the appropriate position for falling into the vend position, which bailer is released upon actuation of the friction roller.

    Abstract: A ball feeding device which can feed balls one by one without allowing many impacts on the balls and which can prevent the balls from being magnetized. Balls are accommodated in a housing formed with a conical hole in the bottom thereof. A rotary rod having a conical end is mounted in the housing, the conical end being located near and opposite to the conical hole. Balls are guided one by one into the area between the conical end and the conical hole and discharged one by one through the conical hole. A pair of inclined cylinders are provided under the housing. The balls discharged through the conical hole drop onto the higher end of the gap defined between the cylinders and roll along the gap. The gap expands gradually from the higher end toward the lower end. Thus, the balls drop through the gap into a pan provided under the cylinders while being fed along the gap.

The barrier covers only one side (52) of the path (32) of the holes, to allow a deformed earplug to move along the other, uncovered side (54) of the path. The wheel has a narrow slot (80) extending from each hole to the periphery, so a tool can be projected through a frame opening (84) and through the slot to dislodge an earplug stuck in a wheel hole.

    Abstract: A machine for extracting juice from citrus fruit, in particular oranges, includes an inclined chute conveying the fruits to be squeezed against a step, a spoon that raises the fruit resting on the step, and two squeezing plates below the step. The plates include a front plate and a back plate, the front plate being pivoted at its upper part and urged by a spring toward the back plate. The back plate is connected to a connecting rod and crank driven by a speed reducer by which the back plate is slid longitudinally horizontally toward and away from the front plate. As the two plates converge, the fruit interposed therebetween is squeezed by the back plate. Juice thus extracted from the fruit drips into an underlying hopper and from there is collected in a container. Afterwards, as the back plate moves away from the front plate, the residue of the previously squeezed fuit falls down on an inclined grill disposed over the hopper and is collected in a collecting drawer.

At each command by the customer for dispensing bottle, a chain drive system (9) provides this drum with an exact turn of rotation and makes the bottle fall into a hatch (7) accessible to the customer. When it returns to its resting position, the drum is reloaded with a new bottle, previously held in a waiting position by a stop mechanism (11) and the bottom of the drum.

    Abstract: Apparatus for dispensing chlorine pellets and the like into a well or other liquid container. The apparatus comprises a hollow cylindrical body having a grooved passageway therein and further having an end plate with a gate opening therein communicating with the passageway. The gate opening has a cross sectional dimension which is greater than that of the diameter of a single chlorine pellet, but smaller than that of two chlorine pellets, thereby allowing the removal of a single chlorine pellet from the gate opening once during each 360.degree. rotation of the cylindrical body. This motion further causes the next-in-line pellet to drop back into the cylindrical body once each such rotation thereof. A removable cap is mounted at the other end of the cylindrical body and is used for loading pellets into the cylindrical body.

    Abstract: An agricultural implement such as a grain drill or similar seeding implement includes a plurality of transversely spaced seed meters having fluted feed wheels fixed to and transversely movable with a drive shaft which is controlled by an actuator to vary seeding rate in response to an indication provided by a sensor or sensors associated with one or more of the meters. An electronic controller includes a desired seeding rate input and provides an indication of the actual seeding rate. In one embodiment of the invention, an error signal indicative of the difference between the actual and desired seeding rates is utilized in a closed-loop system to move the shaft to automatically maintain the desired seeding rate. In a wider implement with more than one shaft, a switching circuit is utilized to permit a single control circuit to provide individual section seeding rates and to automatically operate the actuator associated with the given drive shaft in accordance with the error signal.

    Abstract: A machine that vends a predetermined number of golf balls when activated by a coin or token-operated slide mechanism. A large plurality of golf balls are placed in a hopper and the balls are fed from the hopper, one at a time, into an elongate pipe that discharges into a bucket positioned in a chamber near the bottom of the machine. A motor rotates a turntable having golf ball receiving apertures formed in its outer periphery so that the balls fill each aperture as the turntable rotates. The upper end of the pipe is in the path of travel of and is in open communication with apertures formed in the turntable so that rotation of the turntable continuously fills the pipe as the apertures pass over its open end. Numerous structural features, including vibrating members, insure that the balls will not jam in the hopper and additional design features insure a jostling of the balls in the vicinity of the pipe's upper end to insure against jamming at that critical location.

    Abstract: The invention feeds balls to a connected ball propelling machine, such as those used to propel softballs and baseballs. The feeder includes a chute angled with respect to gravity so that balls loaded into an upper end thereof tend to travel through the chute but are restricted in their movement by an abutment surface. The abutment surface is formed on a bumper member extending upwardly into the chute. A rotating shaft extends across the chute in proximity to and behind the abutment surface. The shaft includes a pair of hooks extending about the bumper member so that upon rotation of the shaft, the hooks lift one ball at a time over the bumper member. This allows the lifted ball to continue its travel down the chute and into the ball propelling machine. A cam included on the shaft, and switches are used to control a motor connected to rotate shaft.

    Abstract: A motorized card dispenser is disclosed that consists of a case with a hinged lid. The lower part of the case has a card storage area and a sealed motor-drive area. The cards are dispensed through a small slot in the front of the case. A dispensing pad, which is driven by a motor is used to dispense the cards. The motor is powered by a small battery located within the case. Three different types of control circuits are disclosed. All three circuits are controlled by a button which is located on the top of the device. A pressure bail, which is spring loaded and hinged, is used to maintain pressure on the cards from the top of the stack. Cards are dispensed from the bottom of the stack. An optional storage case that can be attached to the device to hold business cards that are received by the user is also disclosed.

    Abstract: An automatic fastener selection apparatus for segregating a single fastener from a particular contained pile of fasteners and for depositing the segregated fastener into the intake device of a fastening machine is disclosed. The apparatus is capable of segregating headed or nonheaded fasteners within a wide range of sizes. The apparatus includes a scoop (20) that is connected to the forward end of a shaft (22). The scoop is mounted for movement into and out of a bin (24). The bin contains a pile of randomly oriented fasteners (26). When moved into the bin (24) the blade (28) of the scoop is thrust beneath at least some of the fasteners. The scoop is then tipped upwardly so that a number of fasteners remain on the upper surface of the scoop and slide inwardly to the corner (30) of the scoop. The scoop includes a vacuum port (34) and associated mechanisms for capturing a single fastener as the scoop is rotated into an inverted position within the bin, after the shaft is tilted to remove the scoop from the pile.

    Abstract: Apparatus for stacking conical objects includes right hand and left hand side walls which are joined by divergent walls to define a tapering horizontal cross-section column in which the spacing between the opposite walls is shorter than the length of any one of the conical objects. The conical objects can be placed manually in the top of the column 1 but only in a given orientation (thanks to the tapering horizontal cross-section of the column) and only when hooked on a retaining finger projecting into the column through the side wall. The conical object at the top of the stack thus settles into an inclined orientation which it retains when the retaining finger is released to drop the cone down the column, thanks to an inertia brake to retard the wider diameter end of the falling cone and preventing the cone from becoming vertical. The retaining finger at the foot of the column releases only the bottom cone and allows any cones above it to become indexed downwardly into the bottom-most position.
