Abstract: A piston is disposed inside a tube having an inner cross sectional size and shape uniform along its length. The tube has an open end. The piston is free to move linearly inside the tube and preferably may move out of the tube through the open end. If the tube is cylindrical, for example, it has a constant inner diameter. The open end of the tube is neither tapered or flaring. Liquid samples are aspirated into the device by pulling the piston back. The sample is then ejected by accelerating the piston to a minimum velocity to force the liquid sample out of the open end of the tube. The velocity of the sample is sufficient to render negligible the effects of surface tension forces. The volume of the liquid sample dispensed is determined by the inner diameter of the tube and the piston displacement. Accurate positioning of the piston provides samples of accurate volumes. A specific embodiment of the present invention uses a tube with an inner diameter of 0.5 mm, resulting in a volume displacement of 1.

Abstract: A simple, molded salt or spice shaker is disclosed. The shaker has a cap and an undercap that are rotatable relative to each other. Their rotation also rotates projections that engage the salt or spice material so as to break up lumps that might block the shaker and causes bosses on the undercap to be inserted into dispensing holes in the cap so as to clear the path to the holes and to eject the material from the dispensing holes.

  • Patent number: 5464120
Abstract: A frozen dessert dispensing apparatus is provided with a metering chamber having a predetermined volume into which a frozen dessert product is issued at a uniform constant rate from a bulk source. The time period required to fill the chamber volume determines a characteristic viscosity value of the dessert product which is advantageously used to time the flow of additional frozen dessert product from the source into and through the chamber to a selected point. The total time required to dispense a desired volume is based upon the viscosity measurement. A reciprocating piston arrangement provides gating of the frozen dessert product from the bulk source when in a first position and further acts to extrude frozen dessert product from the metering chamber when set in motion under the command of a controller. The piston arrangement includes a compressible plunger portion which deforms as necessary to prevent accidents or other mishaps from occurring in pinch-off regions of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5211311
Abstract: A cartridge for use in a mixing, dispensing and purging apparatus of mutually reactive chemicals. The cartridge comprises a mixing assembly and purging rod. The mixing assembly includes a core member that is preferably deformable with an axial bore formed in it through which the purging rod reciprocates. The mixing assembly also includes a scraper assembly positioned within the mixing assembly. The scraper assembly includes two cup-shaped members positioned essentially in mirror image with each cup-shaped member including an aperture in its base through which the purging rod extends. An insert is positioned within both of the cup-shaped members and extends between the base of each cup-shaped members. The cup-shaped members and insert are designed to remove material built up on the reciprocating purging rod while keeping the rod aligned and preventing fluid flow through the scraper assembly. The scraper assembly thus alleviates the need for any solvent material.

Abstract: A new and improved foam dispenser gun comprises in combination a gun body, a mountable dispenser moldule and an air cylinder actuator assembly. The dispenser module includes a dispenser housing and a valving insert received therein having a stepped outer configuration. The insert includes a forward minor diameter portion having a diametrical dimension slightly less than that of the housing passageway. The rearward major diameter portion of the insert is designed for press-fit engagement in the housing passageway. The clearance provided between the forward end of the housing passageway and the forward minor diameter portion of the insert, in accordance with the present invention, permits relaxation of the insert member in a controlled manner in use which reduces or eliminates the buildup of residual stresses on the insert member which are believed to be responsible for cold flow deformations of the insert.

  • Patent number: 5027975
Abstract: Dispensing gun for mixing and dispensing reactable fluent materials. A cylinder is slidable within a bore in response to a piston sliding within the cylinder. When the cylinder moves away from a discharge opening, orifices in the wall of the cylinder become aligned with supply passages in the bore allowing the reactable fluent materials to mix in the cylinder and be dispensed from the discharge opening. The cylinder, piston and orifices are cleaned by a cleaning solvent at the end of each dispensing operation. Movement of the piston towards the discharge opening draws the cleaning solvent through the orifices into the interior of the cylinder. The dispensing gun is particularly useful for mixing organic resins and polyisocyanates to dispense polyurethane foam.
