Abstract: In order to prevent the material (52) from being pressed through the press plate seal between press plate (2) and surrounding barrel (50) by means of a press plate (2) when emptying a barrel (50) in which viscous material (52) is supplied, a two-stage construction is used in accordance with the invention: A press cylinder (22) is connected to the rear side of the press plate (2), in which in turn a conveying piston (24) is guided in a sealing manner, which in turn has a smaller end face than the press plate (2). In addition, non-return valves (19) are arranged in the press plate (2) in the region radially inside the press cylinder (22), which allow the material (52) to flow only in the direction of the conveying piston (24), but not vice versa, when the press plate (2) is pressed in the direction to the bottom (50a) of the barrel (50). After the press plate (2) has come to a standstill, the conveying piston (24) can thus be guided in the direction of the bottom of the press cylinder (22), i.e.

Abstract: A material dispensing pump includes a drip prevention system and method so as to avoid undesired dripping of the dispensed fluid. In one example, the fluid path is sealed. Positive pressure is applied to the fluid during a dispensing operation to present the fluid to the auger-style pump at a desired rate. Between dispensing operations, or when dispensing is completed, the fluid is placed in suspension, for example by applying a negative pressure, thereby preventing the fluid from being inadvertently released at the dispense tip. In addition, following a dispensing operation, the pump dispensing controller can be programmed to reverse the rotation of the feed screw, in order to draw the material in a reverse direction and to further suspend the fluid.

A platform extends perpendicularly outwardly from the framework and is adapted to support a container of material. A carriage is slideably mounted on a pair of guide rails secured to the framework, and a winch and cable assembly allows an operator to raise and lower the carriage. The carriage mounts a linearly arranged motor, drive shaft and pump, with the pump having a downwardly extending, disk-like follower plate oriented parallel to the platform. When a container is placed on the platform, the carriage may be lowered to insert the follower plate so that it bears against the materials. The motor drives the pump, and, as the material is removed from the container and dispensed through a hose, the weight of the carriage, pump and motor drives the follower plate into the container.

  • Patent number: 4389001
Abstract: An interface circuit for effecting switchover between plural hot melt material delivery systems so that hot melt material can be continuously supplied to applicators or the like. There are two similar relay circuits which are interconnected so that upon depletion of hot melt material from one system, operation is automatically transferred to another system. The relay circuits each include disconnect contacts for disconnecting the depleted system, transfer contacts for activating the new system, lock-out contacts for preventing operation of the system that is not activated and lock-in contacts for activating the new system without attention by the system operator. The coil of the disconnect relay can be connected to a delay circuit so that deactivation of the depleted system can be delayed by delay interval after activation of the new system. The delay circuit affords a fixed delay interval or a variable delay interval.

  • Patent number: 3976229
Abstract: Apparatus for dispensing heat meltable material from a container including a heated head adapted to engage the upper surface of the material within the container to melt the material immediately below the head. The head includes an inlet passage whereby melted liquid material may enter a reservoir defined in the head, and a dispensing pump includes an inlet communicating with the head reservoir whereby the melted material is pumped from the head reservoir for dispensing purposes. The head inlet passage includes flow control means for retaining melted material within the reservoir, and the head includes means for improving the heat exchanging characteristics between the head and the material confined within the reservoir.
