Patent number: 4516699Abstract: An automatic ladling apparatus for conveying molten metal from a furnace to a die casting machine or the like. The ladle dipper is carried through its ladling cycles by means of cooperating link assemblies mounted on an upright base or pedestal. The assemblies include a motion generating link assembly having a generating arm with an outer end adapted to move through a generally horizontal path with a downwardly curved vertical portion at one end. The other end of the generating arm is connected to a crank arm mounted on a crankshaft that is turned by an appropriate drive through a Geneva motion mechanism. The motion of the generator arm is further controlled by a rocking link connected between the arm and the base. Patent number: 4353406Abstract: The machine has a casting ladle mounted rotatably on a movable support member which conveys the ladle between a filling station and at least one casting station. The movable member carries a motorized rotary disc cam cooperating with a cam-follower which controls rotations of the ladle. The cam profile includes a larger sector of increasing radius to cause a pouring rotation of the ladle at the casting station and a smaller sector of decreasing radius to cause a return rotation of the ladle to the upright position after casting. The cam has, between the two sections, a profile portion which is re-entrant towards the axis of rotation of the cam and in which the cam-follower is engageable selectively to cause a sharp rotation of the ladle from the upright position to an inverted position, so as to release the skin or crust of solidified metal from the inside of the ladle when the latter is at a cleaning station.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1980Date of Patent: October 12, 1982Assignee: Fataluminium S.p.A.Inventor: Roberto Gaddi

Patent number: 4074837Abstract: An automatically operating casting ladle apparatus for the scooping up and delivery of an exactly measured amount of molten metal to die-casting machines, casting molds, etc., in which an exact positioning of the casting ladle is ensured, on the one hand by control means regulating the depth and the angle of tilt of the ladle in the metal bath on filling, and on the other hand by a compensatory movement to ensure that the point of impact of the stream of molten metal remains fixed at each pouring. The control and drive units are, as far as possible, located outside the radiation range of the crucible, and they are otherwise protected against heat influence by surrounding casings.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1976Date of Patent: February 21, 1978Inventor: Werner Engel

Patent number: 4022359Abstract: A ladling apparatus for picking up a preselected amount of molten metal from a bath, and for transferring and pouring this molten metal into the cold chamber of a die casting machine. The apparatus includes an elongated transfer arm which is swingably movable within a substantially vertical plane between filling and pouring positions, in which positions the arm extends outwardly from opposite sides of the apparatus. A ladle assembly is hingedly mounted on the transfer arm adjacent the free end thereof. The ladle assembly is freely hinged in a suspended upright position when the arm is in the filling position and is maintained in this upright position as the arm swings toward the filling position. The ladle engages the arm, which acts as a solid stop and causes tilting of the ladle assembly, as the arm approaches its pouring position to result in automatic pouring of the molten metal into the cold chamber.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1975Date of Patent: May 10, 1977Inventor: Glen R.
