  • Patent number: 5284273
Abstract: A rotatable cap and modified container neck. Depending from a top panel of the cap is an annular exterior wall and a smaller concentrically positioned interior wall with a space between the two walls sized to receive an upper and thinned portion of the container neck with a tight fit providing a fluid seal. The interior wall of the cap contains a dispensing notch which is aligned straight across with a dispensing opening through the exterior wall. With rotation, the cap raises and lowers on threads relative to the container. When the cap is lowered, the container neck blocks the dispensing canal between the notch in the interior wall and the dispensing opening in the exterior wall of the cap. The top rim of the container neck abuts the interior cap ceiling between the two walls to form a seal. When the cap is raised, the container neck is in part below the notch in the interior wall and the dispensing opening, and thus the dispensing canal is open.

Abstract: A toner cartridge is modified by the addition of a low toner sensing mechanism internal to the cartridge. An arm is pivotably mounted within the cartridge; the suspended end of the arm having a magnet secured thereto. When the cartridge is filled to a relatively high level with toner and rotated, the suspended arm is at least partially submerged in the toner bed and is subjected to a viscous drag force which moves the arm from the vertical position and prevents the arm from returning to the vertical or plumb orientation until a sufficiently low toner level occurs. At this point the arm is sufficiently free from the viscous drag effects of the rotating toner bed and attains a plumb position which brings it into alignment with a switching circuit which is closed by action of the proximate magnet. The switching circuitry generates signals which are used to produce a visible or audible signal to the operator, and/or which cause machine shut down to occur.

Abstract: A passive air, gas aerosol or pressurized fluid activated personal self-protection screech alarm device that is armed prior to the person utilizing it entering into a potentially dangerous area or situation. The primary and radically different feature of this device from those currently patented and/or on the market is that no action is demanded of the person carrying it in the event of an attack other than the natural inclination to release ones grip. Releasing ones grip on the aerosol can and lever and dropping the device then activates an irrevocable screech alarm. This device plays to the psychological implications of attack in that if active, overt action is taken by the person who is the subject of a rape, for example, the attacker oftentimes becomes more violent. With this device, the natural inclination to show fright and drop whatever one is carrying serves to activate the alarm.

Abstract: A tube of toothpaste is provided with an internal balloon or similar elastically expansable chamber near its far end, from which a slender inflation tube extends axially out of the neck and is communicated to the exterior of a cap. The cap includes a lateral projection provided with a push to close/pull to open captive closure-type valve. A valved source of compressed gas is communicated to the inflation tube. An actuator is linked both to the cap valve and to the compressed gas valve, so that as the cap valve is opened to dispense toothpaste, the compressed gas valve may be opened to pressurize and inflate the balloon within the tube. Thus the toothpaste reservoir is pressurized for dispensing. The compressed gas line to the inflation tube is provided with a safety valve incorporating a whistle. An appliance is provided housing and mounting the foregoing elements. It may also house and mount toothbrushes and include a floss dispenser.

  • Patent number: 4247018
Abstract: A non-pressurized fluid transfer system for stock rotation of liquids packaged in large non-pressurized containers such as 55 gallon drums is described. Two drums or sets of drums are used and the system automatically changes over from a first drum to a second drum when the first drum no longer contains liquid. Automatic change-over between the first drum and second drum is effected in response to a signal created by a float switch in the drum's fluid line. This float switch detects the absence of liquid in the first drum and the system automatically switches to the second drum in order to maintain continuity of the dispensing process. When the first drum is replaced with a new drum, the operator pushes a purge button and the fluid line connected to that drum is purged of any air. Thus, the dispensing of fluid may be continuously maintained without any interruption from changing drums, and without introducing air into the dispensing line.
