Patent number: 5581982Abstract: An ice bagger comprises an ice maker, an ice bagging unit which includes an automatic sanitation system, and a merchandiser. The ice maker delivers particulate ice into a hopper housed within the ice bagging unit. The ice bagging unit includes a bag carrier which retrieves a bag from a bag supply and opens the bag underneath a delivery chute communicating with the hopper via an auger. A scale supports the bag during its filling to measure the weight of the ice delivered into the bag from the hopper. When the scale registers the desired amount of ice, the auger ceases to deliver ice from the hopper into the delivery chute. The ice bagging unit further includes a sealer arm and heating element wherein, after the bag is filled, the sealer arm pivots to detach the bag from the bag carrier and force both sides of the open end of the bag against the heating element. The heating element then activates to seal the bag closed.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1995Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: Packaged Ice, Inc.Inventors: Alfred A. The vertical movement of the carriage or bag handling mechanism may be adjusted in response to the vertical auger revolution rate, the product density or weight as measured by a bulk or net weigh scale attached to the bag support assembly, or to comport to a premeasured charge that is bulk loaded into the auger bowl. The agitator or wiper may be of a configuration having a blade mounted on a rotating shaft vertically disposed in the center of the auger bowl, or may be carried on a rotating ring horizontally disposed at or near the top of the auger bowl. The traveling bag settler includes an arm which may be oscillated in a vertical plane to strike the bottom of a bag being filled, and which travels with the bag as it descends during filling and when lowered to a conveyor.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1990Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Inventor: Harold R. Patent number: 5038973Abstract: Vessel balance for bulk material having a tubular balance section for feed therethrough of bulk material. The balance is adapted during feed intervals of the bulk material to enable determination of the weight thereof. The section cooperates with a feed flap adjacent one of its ends to govern entry of the material into the section and has a closing member at an opposite end. The section and member are supported by at least two weight measuring elements carried by a fixed platform.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1989Date of Patent: August 13, 1991Assignee: Gebruder Buhler, AGInventor: Bruno Gmur

Patent number: 5038975Abstract: An apparatus for receiving loosely aggregated filamentary material, such as Easter grass, and producing, at a substantially uniform rate, weighed charges of the filamentary material. The apparatus comprises scales to weigh the charges to preselected weights, blowers to provide a stream of the filamentary material to the scales, conduits to convey the material from the outlet of the blowers to the scales, and a magazine which receives material charges at irregular intervals and dispenses the same charges at a substantially uniform rate.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1989Date of Patent: August 13, 1991Assignee: Highland Manufacturing & Sales CompanyInventors: Donald E. Patent number: 5024352Abstract: A method and apparatus for the automatic determination of a continuous bulk material through a continuous balance wherein a weighing vessel, an adjustable closure member movable in the weighing vessel for adjusting an outlet cross-section of the weighing vessel and an electronic weight difference measuring device are provided. The closure member provided in the outlet region of the vessel is so arranged that when the closure member is in the open operating position, there is a free mass flow in the weighing vessel and the bulk material flows freely and unhindered from the outlet of the weighing vessel. A control device is connected at its input to the weight measuring device and at its output to the adjustable closure member whereby a signal corresponding to the weight change in the weighing vessel per unit of time is produced, which is used for calculating the parameters of state of the bulk material flow.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1990Date of Patent: June 18, 1991Assignee: Gebrueder Buehler AGInventors: Bruno Gmur, Bernd Kuhnemund

Patent number: 5022444Abstract: Apparatus for filling containers alternately with predetermined quantities of material has two container positions to be fed alternately and a material guide arrangement with alternative outlets that supply the material to containers at these two positions. A pair of container support frames are arranged side by side on the front pair of a main frame, and these support frames are mounted by pivot arms to the main frame in a parallelogram arrangement. Rearwardly of the main frame front part are counterweights or counterbalances supported on either upper or lower ones of the pivot arms. An upper part of each of the support frames has a mechanism that coacts with a cooperating mechanism on the material guide arrangement to change the position of a diverter plate when the container that is being filled overbalances the corresponding counterbalance and causes the associated support frame to descend.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1989Date of Patent: June 11, 1991Assignees: Thomas D. Patent number: 5007564Abstract: A dosing or metering feeding apparatus for precisely feeding a stream of powdered or fine grained loose bulk material includes a cylindrical container (1) for storing the loose material (3). A rotating turntable (4) essentially closing the bottom of the container (1). A discharge groove (6) is located in the turntable around the circumference of the turntable (4), whereby the discharge groove (6) opens radially outwardly. A stripper is arranged to reach into the discharge groove (6) for stripping the dosed material (3) from the discharge groove (6) and for discharging the dosed or metered material. This arrangement provides a clearly defined discharge rate of the loose material. The discharge rate may be simply adjusted to different desired feed rates by varying the rotational speed of the turntable (4). A high dosing or metering precision is achieved.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1989Date of Patent: April 16, 1991Assignee: Carl Schenck AGInventors: Matthias Beth, Hansgeorg Binz, Ludger Toerner

Patent number: 5007560Abstract: A beer dispensing apparatus for delivering beer to a valve that is opened to dispense a predetermined weight of the beverage by monitoring the reduced weight of the supply keg. The apparatus also includes means for bypassing a portion of the beer from the cooling coils so that a part of the beer is cooled to a non-foaming temperature and a portion of the beer is at a foaming temperature. The two portions are mixed into a mixture that forms a head on the liquid received in a beer mug or pitcher.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1989Date of Patent: April 16, 1991Inventor: John J. Sassak
