  • Patent number: 8006632
Abstract: A device for temporary hemming/cuffing children's pants legs is disclosed. One embodiment of the present invention is a device having an outer body portion and an inner tongue portion connected by a hinge. The hinge creates an offset distance between the outer body and the inner tongue, and is biased to angle the inner tongue through the outer body. The inner tongue may be deflected from its neutral position to form a recess to accommodate material, such as a cuff made by turning the bottom edge of a pants leg over the pants leg. Another embodiment of the present invention is a clip having a pair of arms extending from a tongue portion. The arms are adapted to engage the bottom of a turned up edge of the pants leg thereby preventing the clip from sliding down the cuff.

  • Patent number: 8002156
Abstract: A handicraft clip is provided for forming a pleat in a cloth. The clip includes a relatively wide base plate and a narrower fastening plate connected to the base plate via a connecting hinge portion having a reduced thickness for allowing pivotal movement of the fastening plate relative to the base plate. The base plate is formed with a generally elliptical through-hole, while the fastening plate is provided with a locking protrusion to be fitted into the through-hole of the base plate when the base plate and the fastening plate are superposed on each other. The fastening plate includes a cloth holding portion of a generally constant width. The cloth holding portion is formed with a slit for insertion of a cloth. The slit extends from the distal end of the cloth holding portion toward the locking protrusion.

  • Patent number: 5590821
Abstract: A binding tool for assisting in the task of folding and pressing bindings and ruffles and to a method of use thereof. The binding tool has a tool body having a top side and a bottom side and a slot disposed through the body for receiving a strip of cloth to be folded. The binding tool is used by placing the body member onto the top of an ironing board whereby the slot extends from the top of the ironing board upwardly through the body member. One end of a strip cloth is folded and then threaded through the slot from the top of the body down so that it extends between the body and the top of the ironing board. A heated iron is placed on a portion of the folded strip of cloth and then the strip of cloth is pulled through the slot whereby it is folded and simultaneously pulled under the iron and between the iron and the ironing board whereby it is pressed.

  • Patent number: 4573421
Abstract: A device for use with a sewing machine for making garments with pleats operates with a folded-over workpiece which is advanced past a reciprocating sewing needle and includes a pleating bar assembly which is insertable between the folds of the material and includes portions which engage against the folds of the material to hold a pleat in position while it is moved by a feed pressure member into a sewing position. The pleating bar assembly includes a supporting member such as a shaft or a rod having pleat members with bearing portions which are rotatable on the support member to permit the plates to be held in position and to be collapsed for bringing the pleat to a sewing position. The material is held by needle or pin members which engage into the material as it is fed into the sewing position.
