Abstract: A device for fastening bags has a length of adhesive tape with a decorative object fixed to one or both ends of the length of tape. The device is produced in series by an apparatus having: actuators for linear and angular feed, a pair of pneumatic pincers, a cutter, a reel to carry the roll of adhesive tape, a stitching device and a dispenser of the decorative pompom. A microprocessor controls the apparatus for cyclical execution of the method wherein: the pincers engage the end of the tape through a cutter and pull the tape for a previously set length to bring it between the stitching device and a first pompom. The cutter then cuts the tape. The pompon is stitched to the non-glued surface and the pincers pull the tape for an equal length so as to bring its other end between the stitching device and a second pompon which is then stitched onto the tape. The pincers rotate and open to expel the finished product.

  • Patent number: 7014080
Abstract: A bow-forming ribbon assembly has a decorative flexible ribbon member and a drawstring connected loosely to the ribbon at points along its length by relatively stiff retainer members. Each retainer member extends generally transversely across the ribbon member, and each is inclined with respect to the transverse direction at an angle. Each retainer member is inclined at an angle different from that of an adjacent retainer member. Decorative arms having adornments are mounted adjacent at least some of the retainer members. On forming the ribbon into a bow by pulling the drawstring relative to the ribbon member, the inclined retainer members tend to skew the adjacent loops or segments of the bow relative to one another, as well as the decorative arms so that the loops and the arms are distributed at various angles around the axis of the bow, thereby providing a bow of great visual interest.

The apparatus serves to impart a helical curl to at least one of a plurality of ribbon strands, meters the strands into preselected lengths, separates the lengths from the ribbon stock, and packages the resulting coiled ribbon arrangements for distribution to customers. The apparatus includes one or more roll stands for storing rolls of ribbon stock, a feed unit for advancing the ribbon through the apparatus and imparting a tendency to curl the strands, a tension regulator unit for accumulating metered lengths of the stands and regulating the advancement of the ribbon strands through the apparatus, and a packaging unit for attaching the ribbon on a placard, to form a decorative element having a cluster of curled ribbon strands.

  • Patent number: 6237819
Abstract: The decorative bow is provided which includes a plurality of ribbon-like strands that are folded in alternating directions to give the strand a zigzagging shape. The zigzagging strands of the decorative bow are held together at a common point with the ends of the strands running loose to provide a “cascading” look. This structure of the decorative bow can be used to provide many variations in the overall look by, for example, using ribbon materials with different colors and reflective effects or adjusting the lengths of the strands in the bow to give a layered appearance. The decorative bow may be secured to a base member (commonly called a “bow chip”), which may have a section for receiving printed indicia for display and an adhesive backing that allows the decorative bow to be attached easily to a desired object.

Abstract: A bow-making jig includes a circular base having a top surface in which numerous holes are formed, arranged in a number of rows. The holes are shaped and sized to receive pegs around which ribbon may be wound to form bow-loops. A preferred configuration of the bow-making jig includes pegs mounted in the base and each having associated with the respective peg a holding means such as a plastic clip which serves to hold the ribbon loop on the surface of the respective peg. Preferably the clips are pivotally mounted on the respective pegs by means of hinge pins provided on the clips.

  • Patent number: 6112957
Abstract: A tassel making device is provided having a grip portion on a wand having a plurality of slots along its length. Two rods are inserted into two of these slots at variable selected distances from each other, depending upon the desired size of the tassel to be created. The cylindrical shape of the rods ensures that tassel yarn is not damaged as it is wound about the rods and facilitates its removal from the rods. Longitudinal grooves are provided in the rods so that tassel yarn wrapped about the rods may be easily severed therefrom and tied thereat when forming the tassel. The tassel making device disclosed may also be combined with yarn feeding apparatus that holds a spool containing tassel yarn so that the yarn for creating the tassel is conveniently and easily accessible for controlled payout.

  • Patent number: 6080459
Abstract: A decorative ribbon is provided with a controllable adhesive on portions of the underside, whereby the ribbon may be adhered to an article and removed from the article for relocating it on the article, if desired. The ribbon also is cut through along predetermined lines to form decorative design elements in the ribbon. The cut lines are interrupted by uncut portions of the ribbon, whereby the decorative design elements may be displaced out of the plane of ribbon along the cut lines by bending at the uncut portions, whereby to form stand-up decorative design elements which project outwardly from the ribbon while remaining attached to the ribbon by the uncut portions. A flare ribbon is formed by a plurality of longitudinally spaced, V-shaped, serrated perforation cut lines which allow the ribbon to be separated along the cut lines and flared laterally outward.

  • Patent number: 6030669
Abstract: The present invention relates to decorative bows formed from a folded pattern of a laminated substrate. The substrate comprises one or more layers of printed material laminated between two layers of laminate film so that the print is visible on both sides of the substrate. In order to match the bow to gift wrap the substrate can be formed from gift wrap paper with a protective film laminated to the printed side of the paper. As gift wrap is normally only printed on one side, two sheets of gift wrap are laminated with their unprinted sides together resulting in a substrate having printed material on both sides with a protective film on each side. The gift wrap can be substituted with cardboard, fabric, vinyl, plastic or other film. By laminating the material the resulting bows are waterproof, durable, reusable.

  • Patent number: 6015070
Abstract: A portable bow making machine with three clutches controlling the size, arc generation and a no-back clutch assuring that the belt driving the impaler assembly doesn't go into reverse The user requiring no particular skill, merely threads the ribbon in a channel under the reciprocal carriage and the two stroke operation automatically makes one of the loops of the bow. Stroking continues until the bow is complete and a stapler automatically retracts the needles of the impaler and the staple is forced against an anvil to secure the bow. The stapler is configured to hold a removable self-gluing card that is concomitantly attached to the bow. The forward stroke carries a carriage and clapper along the carriage slides, The clapper reaches a predetermined point and drops onto the impaler to secure each of the loops to the bow. The return stroke repositions the carriage for the next forward stroke.
