The drawbar is provided with a vertical offset to position the platform further from the ground. A support stanchion is removably secured to the carrier platform to transport a plurality of bicycles in a vertical position.     Abstract: An apparatus for loading a motorcycle or a secondary vehicle onto a carrier so that the carrier can be secured to a primary self-propelled vehicle for transporting. The carrier employs a docking unit which can be lowered to ground level allowing for ease of loading a motorcycle thereon. The docking unit may then be retracted by a pivoting conveyor assembly that guides the docking across roller supports to a raised position. The conveyor assembly rests upon a series of nested sleeves that allow the conveyor assembly to pivot to an inclined, loading/unloading orientation to the horizontal, transporting orientation. Elastomeric suspension elements dampen shock loads transferred to the device during travel. The device includes mounting shafts for securement either to a receiver hitch or a trailer. A system of interlocking pieces restricts relative motion of the device during travel. Tie downs and wheel chocks further assist in control of a vehicle during loading and transporting.

    Abstract: A vehicle cargo carrier, and specifically a movable frame assembly, for storing and transporting luggage, gear, equipment and the like on the exterior of a vehicle. The carrier is attached to a common trailer hitch and is particularly well suited for use with a mini-van or sport utility vehicle which has a rear opening door or hatch. The carrier is slidably movable, permitting outward extension, while still being connected to the vehicle, to provide easy access to and unobstructed opening of the vehicle rear door or hatch, and to provide unobstructed access to the vehicle's existing interior cargo area. Subsequently, the carrier is inwardly slidably retracted so that it is firmly disposed in an aerodynamically favorable position proximate the rear of the vehicle. The frame assembly comprises a connection member which interfaces with the hitch and a frame member which interfaces with the connection member. A storage box or container member is connected to the frame member.

A series of horizontal trays (31) angled from the base of the vertical support post (20), and a series of bicycle front fork mounts (32) at the top of the vertical support post (20). The horizontal trays (31) receive a portion of the rear wheel of a bicycle so as to cradle the wheel and support the bicycle.

    Abstract: Various arrangements of a bicycle carrier for transport by motorized vehicle include a particular type of clamping device for securely gripping the tire of a bicycle wheel mounted therein. The clamp comprises a pair of generally parallel, spaced-apart side panels adapted to receive a bicycle wheel and frictionally engage the tire when the panels are drawn together by a suitable closure, such as a bolt and nut combination. Theft protection is afforded by a padlock extending through holes in the two panels. In one arrangement, the clamp is stamped of sheet metal with the side panels being flexible enough to accommodate being drawn together by the adjustable closure. In another arrangement, the side panels are hinged to a base plate so that they can be pivoted into frictional engagement with the bicycle tire. The carrier mounts transversely on a longitudinal support member adapted for installation in the receiver portion of a conventional vehicle-mounted trailer hitch.

The second piece is T-shaped when viewed from above and it includes a single adjustment telescoping transition beam which serves as the transition from the longitudinal box beam to the load-supporting cross beam that is transversely oriented relative to the longitudinal beam. A second stub is rigidly connected to the cross beam and it is adjustable by being telescoped over the first angled stub.
