  • Patent number: 5992719
Abstract: The left and right side panels of a portable storage enclosure are intersected by window openings through which left and right side support members can be extended laterally into engagement with the load deck sidewalls of a pickup truck. The storage enclosure is installed in an operative position wherein the access opening of the storage enclosure is presented substantially flush with the tailgate access opening so that the storage compartment is conveniently accessible when the tailgate is open and is secured against unauthorized access when the tailgate is closed. Vertical movement of the storage enclosure relative to the load deck is blocked by engagement of the side support members against side pocket portions formed in the deck sidewalls. Forward movement of the storage enclosure is limited by engagement of a stop flange against end portions of the deck sidewalls. Rearward movement of the storage enclosure is blocked by the tailgate when it is in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 5829655
Abstract: An assemble-in-place storage container mounts in the space behind the front seats of an extended cab truck. The container contains bottom, side, front, back and top panels which are configured to form the body of the container, as well as divider panels to provide compartments within the container. The container mounts on the horizontally oriented metallic back supports of the folded down jump seats of an extended cab truck. The bottom panel is sized and shaped to fit over the "footprint" of the folded down jump seats, and side panels are hinged to the bottom panel and are collapsed onto the bottom panel. With the bottom panel in place, the side panels are extended to the vertical; the side panels having sloping front edges conforming to the taper of the back of the truck's seats. The back and front panels are then vertically put into place, and are locked into position by tabs which fit into slots in the side panels.

  • Patent number: 5709329
Abstract: A storage shelf for use in an extended cab type pickup is disclosed. The shelf consists of a folding tray having extendable outer edges for adjustment to fit most models of extended cab pickups. The shelf is laterally secured at either end to the interior molding of the pickup by the use of notches which fit into the contours of the molding. The surface of this shelf is surrounded by rails which extend around the outside of the tray. The effect of this is to provide an easily accessible place to store personal items. In addition, the lateral strength of the present invention is enhanced by the use of hinge braces, a rear side support block which helps support the rear edge of the shelf, and a support leg which extends from the front edge of the shelf to the floor of the pickup. These features allow for the storage of heavy objects on the present invention.

  • Patent number: 5687895
Abstract: An interlocking arrangement of storage boxes in the rear section of a passenger vehicle such as a sport utility vehicle. The arrangement preferably includes at least three storage boxes. Two of the boxes are respectively secured to the side walls of the vehicle. These side boxes are spaced from each other and the third box is slidably receivable between them. In the preferred embodiment, the third box has lips on its sides that respectively interlock with lips on the two side boxes to prevent the third box from being removed by lifting it upwardly between the two side boxes. Forward stops on the side boxes prevent the third box from being moved forwardly beyond the side boxes and the vehicle's tailgate in its closed position serves to prevent the third box from being moved rearwardly out of the vehicle. In this manner and with the tailgate in its locked, closed position, the three interlocking storage boxes are securely held in place.
