  • Patent number: 11613039
Abstract: A bundle breaker includes upstream and downstream breaking supports, platens over the breaking supports and actuators for moving the platens toward and away from the breaking supports. Each of the platens includes a plurality of air bladders each having a bottom contact surface facing one of the breaking supports. The actuators move the platens to selectively clamp a log between the bottom contact surfaces of the air bladders and the breaking supports. A third actuator shifts an input end of the downstream breaking support relative to an output end of the upstream breaking support from a first position to a second position to break a first portion of the log from a second portion of the log.

  • Patent number: 10605990
Abstract: A tensioning tool device includes a flexible or spring support having a spring bearing that translates a linearly applied external force at an input to linear displacement at an output of the spring bearing. An external force applied to the input of the spring bearing causes the output to pull on a section of the optical fiber and imparts axial strain and tension in the optical fiber. The spring bearing includes one or more sets of parallel flexible beams cantilever-coupled to the input and output, to provide a flexible/spring structure that couples an external force input to an output coupled to the first section of the optical fiber. The external force is applied to displace the input to flex the fixed-guided beam(s) to impart axial tension in the optical fiber at the output of the flexible bearing.

Moreover, by moment of a rotating machinery before stopping, a film clamping and cutting unit main body assembled on the rotating machinery is driven to continue moving. Under the movement of the unit main body, a pulling force is generated by a pull cord arranged between the connecting plate and a vertical-wheel of the unit main body. The pulling force rotates the vertical-wheel so that both a film clamping and cutting rod assembled with the vertical-wheel and a clamp fall toward a blade block to clamp and cut off a film. The film is also pulled and cut by an elastic recovery force of the film clamping and cutting rod. Therefore automatic film clamping and cutting is carried out.

Abstract: Upstream and downstream grippers clamp to one or more seal zones on a bandolier of packaged premiums, such that the downstream gripper(s) and upstream clipper(a) are on opposite sides of a wakened separation line. The upstream and downstream gripper(s) are independently displaced by motive devices in a downstream direction. Further displacement of the downstream gripper(s) relative to the upstream gripper(s) causes the separation line to tear, thus separating an end premium package from the rest of the bandolier. • Patent number: 6019267
Abstract: Method and apparatus for separating a bundle of blank pieces from a stack of sheets. The apparatus has a frame and a subframe which pivots with respect to the frame. The frame and subframe each have a clamp for clamping the stack of sheets along a stack plane and the bundle portion to be separated from the stack along a separation plane that intersects the stack plane. The subframe pivots with respect to the frame, bending the stack to cause the bundle portion to be separated from the remainder of the stack in such a way that separation is initiated at one point along the stack rather than across the whole stack or across an entire sheet of the stack. The subframe pivots about an axis that is skewed with respect to at least one of the planes to produce the described effect.

  • Patent number: 5865358
Abstract: A machine for breaking portions of bundles of sheets of material is disclosed in which first and second sets of clamps secure first and second portions of a bundle on opposite sides of a break line and, while the first bundle portion is retained in a stationary position by the first set of clamps, the second set of clamps is moved in first and second arcuate motions about first and second pivot points.

  • Patent number: 5719077
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus and method for cleaving a semiconductor bar and coating the cleaved facets within a vacuum environment. The apparatus is a fixture having at least one rotator for cleaving one or more semiconductor samples into semiconductor bars and positioning the semiconductor bars for immediate coating of their cleaved facets. The fixture is operably positioned within a processing chamber and exposed to a conventional coating medium before, during or immediately after cleaving the semiconductor sample. The fixture cleaves the semiconductor samples in a manner that reduces semiconductor sample waste and also allows the processing environment requirements to be reduced compared to other cleaving and coating techniques. A single actuation feed-through mechanism actuates the fixture from outside of the processing chamber.

  • Patent number: 5699947
Abstract: According to the invention, parting of the cap of the connecting rod is achieved by engaging the eye of the big end of the connecting rod with two semicylindrical fixtures, respectively a fixed fixture and a movable fixture, which are actuated by a hydraulic actuator which is interposed between them and is adapted to expand the fixtures in a diametrical direction against the inner surface of the eye of the big end of the connecting rod, subjecting the piston of the actuator to the action of a hydraulic fluid fed into the respective actuation cylinder at an optional pre-loading pressure that is in any case lower than the pressure required to reach the yield point of the material of the connecting rod, and producing an instantaneous peak in the pressure of the fluid fed to the hydraulic actuator by means of an auxiliary piston that is subjected to the momentary action of a striking mass.

  • Patent number: 5495972
Abstract: A method of cutting a flat tube (6) into unit pieces, which includes moving in a transverse direction rotatable disc cutters (12) with knife edges so as to cut the upper and lower walls of a flat tube to form a pair of cutting grooves (15) and fixing the flat tube at a point upstream of the cutting groove while flexing in the vertical direction a length of the flat tube downstream of the cutting grooves to break it off at the cutting grooves, thereby providing a unit piece of a predetermined length.

  • Patent number: 5472126
Abstract: Method and apparatus is disclosed for severing flat tubing. A length of tubing is gripped at longitudinally spaced apart locations and the tubing is deeply scored by rapidly rotating circular cutters which are moved across the faces of the tubing at a predetermined linear velocity. The angular velocity of the circular cutters greatly exceeds the linear velocity of traversal. An axial force is applied to separate the tubing.

  • Patent number: 5450668
Abstract: Method and apparatus for separating thin-walled flat metal tubing are disclosed. The tubing has flat upper and lower walls joined by end walls. The tubing is partially severed by providing relative movement between the tubing and opposed cutting blades having straight or slightly curved cutting edges. The relative movement is transverse to the longitudinal axis of the tubing, and the straight slicing edges, or the chords of curved slicing blades, form a small acute angle with respect to the flat faces of the tubing. The tubing is completely severed by applying an axial force to the tubing. Pressing heads follow the slicing blades to press any burrs back into the tubing.

  • Patent number: 5368211
Abstract: An apparatus cuts one or several optical fibers obliquely. The cutting edge (6) creates the beginning of a break on the fiber that has first been subjected to a torsion and to a tension. The fiber is immobilized upstream of the cutting point. Then, the fiber is tightened downstream from the cutting point. Next, a tension is exerted on the part of the fiber or fibers located between the application of the tightening (3,4). The tightening also involves an exertion of a torsion force upon the optical fiber.
