Blades Or Severing Devices Patents (Class 225/91)
  • Patent number: 4506816
Abstract: The cutting edge for a sheet material dispensing carton has a plastic portion bonded to the paperboard material forming the carton. When the carton blank is formed, the plastic and paperboard are cut concurrently to form one edge of the blank. The paperboard and plastic material forming the teeth of the cutting edge are compressed to increase the sharpness of the cutting edge teeth.

  • Patent number: 4399935
Abstract: A carton construction and method of making an integral cutting edge therefor. An intermittent cut-score line is utilized at the juncture of the front and bottom main panels the cut segments of which extend into the front panel to provide a plurality of discrete teeth for the cutting edge. The end portions of each cut segment terminate approximately at the juncture of the front and bottom panels so that the space between the cut segments provide an axis for folding between the front and bottom panels in erecting the carton. Additionally, the individual teeth are stiffened by applying a coating thereto. The carton blank is formed into an open ended tube and a plurality of these tubes, in flattened condition, are stacked with the cutting teeth uppermost in which position they are coated, such as by a roller coating.

  • Patent number: 4372472
Abstract: A dispenser for tapes packaged in a roll and having an adhesive on one side thereof has a pair of spaced parallel sidewalls upstanding from the base and a mounting disk is rotatably positioned upon a shaft extending between the centers of the sidewalls. A roll of tape is mounted on the mounting disk. There is a cutter edge at an upper corner of the housing between the sidewalls and there is a rotatable roller positioned below and inwardly of the cutter edge but above a radius extending from the center shaft to the cutter edge. The roller has a helical thread thereon so as to provide a moving point contact for the adhesive surface of the tape moving thereover. As the adhesive side of the tape passes over the roller and below the cutter edge, the tape can be pulled out to a desired length and then cut along its non-adhesive surface by being moved upwardly against the cutter edge.

  • Patent number: 4371104
Abstract: A dispensing carton for a web in roll form wherein the lid is closed on the roll with an end of the web emerging between the lid and the wall of the carton. The wall of the carton is provided with a longitudinal relatively stiff strip, preferably of plastic, adjacent the opening in the carton through which the web is drawn. The strip has a serrated edge for tearing the web after a desired length is drawn. The strip is extended onto adjacent sealing or dust flaps of the carton which are secured to the end walls of the carton so that when the sealing or dust flaps are folded into engagement with the end walls of the carton during manufacture of the carton, reinforced corners for the carton are formed at the areas of greatest stress where the web is first torn against the serrated edge, or reinforcement is obtained by using a multi-ply underlay for supporting serrated edge strip. The serrated edge strip may be mounted to extend beyond a side wall or a bottom wall of the carton.

  • Patent number: 4346830
Abstract: A dispenser carton for dispensing sheet material, e.g., household wrap type sheet material. A unique structure at one corner of the carton permits tearing off a length of the sheet material after that length has been withdrawn from a roll inside the carton. The carton corner is comprised of plural serrated cutting sections each of which is cut through at least one of the panels, and plural fold sections which cooperate to connect the carton's walls together at that corner, the serrated and fold sections alternating along the corner's length from one end to the other. The serrated sections are of a length and number to permit tearing of the sheet material to desired length on that carton corner, and the fold sections are of a length and number to provide structural rigidity to the carton at that corner during normal use of the tearing edge and carton so formed.
