    Abstract: In order to achieve high sensitivity without an increase in device complexity or cost, a far-ultraviolet absorbance detection device for liquid chromatography is provided with: an optical system including a light source that emits light including far-ultraviolet light, a diffraction grating for dispersing the light emitted from the light source, a flow cell through which a liquid is passed, a slit for selecting a predetermined wavelength of +1 order light diffracted by the diffraction grating and causing the light to enter the flow cell, a first photodetector for detecting the light transmitted by the flow cell, and a second photodetector for detecting light other than the +1 order light diffracted by the diffraction grating; a mechanism for evacuating or substituting the optical system with nitrogen gas; and a computation unit that calculates absorbance from an output signal from the first photodetector and an output signal from the second photodetector. The second photodetector is fixedly disposed.

    Abstract: A roll feed apparatus has first and second rolls for gripping a plate when rotated in first directions and moving from each other when rotated in second directions, and first and second brake pieces for fixing the plate during rotation in the second direction. A pair of pivot shafts parallel to the first roll shaft are rotatably connected to the pivot body and a housing and eccentric with respect to each other. First and second adjusting arms are fixed to the shafts; third and fourth adjusting arms are pivotally fitted to the support portions and support the first brake piece. A first adjusting device with first and second links coupled to the first and second adjusting arms moves portions of the first roll and first brake piece located next to first and second arms towards or away from the second roll and the second brake piece by pivoting these arms.

First and second braking members temporarily fix the sheet when it is unclamped from the rolls. The second braking member is carried by a braking position adjusting arm disposed between the pivot member and the path of feed of the sheet. The adjusting arm is pivotally carried by the pivot member and arranged such that an imaginary plane connecting the portions of the first roll and the second braking member closest to the path of feed of the sheet is moved, when the pivot member pivots over a predetermined angle, substantially in parallel with the path of feed of the sheet.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus for moving material such as metal sheets or strip in production machines. The apparatus includes two spaced-apart, double-acting jacks disposed in parallel relation to the direction of movement for the strip. The piston rods are secured at their free ends to standing columns arranged at the four corners of a rectangular base. A cross member rigidly interconnects the cylinders of the jacks and is provided with two transport grippers having jaws, one of which is moved by a jack to grip the strip at opposite sides thereof. The grippers are disposed in a plane containing the strip and longitudinal axes of the piston rods so that applied forces to the strip coincide with the driving plane of the cylinders.

The intermittent feeding apparatus basically requires a rotatable drum having its cylindrical surface provided with circularly arrayed radially extending prongs that are removably engageable through the carrier edgewise perforations and which drum is intermittently rotated for a prescribed angular-value cycle so that the drum prongs feed the carrier for an approximate-length roughly equivalent to the desired exact finite-length. At the conclusion of each incremental rotation for the pronged drum, a camming assembly (having a camming first-component circularly arrayed around the drum and having a camming second-component mounted to a reciprocatable piston) rectifies the approximate-length carrier feed into the exact finite-length feed desired for the carrier sheet material.

The wavelength adjustment mechanism of the instrument monochromator, is driven in step-wise fashion by a stepping motor or the like, which also drives the tape advance means of a magnetic tape recorder, whereby the tape is advanced past a read/write head in incremental steps with the advance of the wavelength adjustment mechanism. During a calibration run an error signal is generated, which signal indicates at each discrete wavelength whether the imbalance between the reference and sample signals is in a first (or "+") direction, or in a second (or "-" direction). The information conveyed by the error signal is written as a single "+" or "-" bit upon the tape during each step-wise movement of same.
