  • Patent number: 8794856
Abstract: In a method or device to sample a web movement, an incremental encoder translates the web movement into two phase-offset output signals. A quadrature decoder generates first and second digital output signals with two respective signal levels. The first output signal is designated as a forward signal and the second output signal is designated as a backward signal. An evaluation circuit outputs a control signal and has a first counter that counts a signal change of the forward signal and subtracts from the count a signal change of the backward signal. A second counter counts a signal change of the control signal. A comparator compares values of the first and the second counters. A disabling device enables the forward signal if values of both the first and second counters are the same so that the forward signal is output, and disables the forward signal if values of the two counters are different.

A rear end of the continuous paper in the hopper is determined if the result of determination of the presence/absence of the detection mark during conveyance of the continuous paper is the same. A passage length from the position of the determined rear end of the continuous paper to a print unit is equal to or longer than a predetermined maximum print size. By this arrangement, the rear end of the continuous paper can be detected without upsizing the apparatus and without complicating the structure, and the continuous paper can be effectively utilized without causing shortage of the continuous paper during execution of print operation.

Abstract: A tape feeder feeds electronic components by advancing a tape intermittently. The tape feeder comprises a motor controller for controlling a motor, which rotatively drives a sprocket to advance the tape, and a communication unit for receiving a control signal from a control unit of an electronic component mounting apparatus and transmitting a control parameter such as a rotating speed, an amount of rotation, and acceleration and deceleration pattern to the motor controller. The tape feeder has such a structure that a tape advancing speed and an amount of tape advancement are easily changeable according to a type of the electronic components by changing the control parameter of the rotating speed and the amount of rotation of the motor.

  • Patent number: 6851593
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the strain of a web material supplied to a machine by adjusting a tension force applied to the web material. An operator defines a target web strain via an input device. A speed sensor senses the speed of the web material supplied to the machine at a first position and a second position and generates a speed signal representative of the difference. A tension sensor senses a tension force applied to the web prior to the first position and after the first position and generates a tension signal representative of the difference. A control system calculates web strain as a function of the tension signal and speed signal, and compares the calculated strain with the target web strain and generates a speed control signal as a function of the comparison. The feed device is responsive to the speed control signal for adjusting a speed differential of the web to adjust tension force applied to the web.

Abstract: A web tensioning device utilizes a dancer arm which can be positioned by a controlled servo motor. In a preferred embodiment, the controller for the servo motor receives an input signal based on the acceleration (positive or negative) of the dancer arm and implements a torque component necessary to maintain predetermined web tension, for example, an applied torque component that changes the position of the dancer arm. The controller may also receive additional input signals indicative of the acceleration of the web itself.

Abstract: A tape roller bearing is provided that prevents the development of an air film between the roller surface and the tape. The spool surface is made from porous material so that air flows through the spool surface. The porous material vents air uniformly over the roller surface, and the tape remains in direct contact with the roller, even at high speed. The speed of the tapes movement can be determined by measuring the speed of movement of the spool surface using an encoder disk and an encoder module.

  • Patent number: 6619526
Abstract: An automatic tape feeder for use in component placement machines includes a novel sprocket wheel for driving component carrier tapes to a gross position by an electric drive motor. Before the electric drive motor reaches the final position desired, it is deactivated or turned off. A novel indexing cam is connected to the sprocket drive wheel. A spring loaded pawl or positioning cam is moved into a vee-shaped groove on the indexing cam so as to achieve an actual fine position of the indexing cam as well as the teeth on the sprocket wheel. By first achieving a gross position with the drive motor and then a fine position with an indexing cam and pawl, it is possible to achieve a positioning accuracy in a pick up station which is as accurate as the sprocket holes and component pockets in the carrier tape. The present invention has achieved accuracies of ± one 1,000th of one inch which exceeds positioning accuracies of devices known heretofore.
