The quantity of fasteners in the buffer magazine is detected and the last fastener is retained so as to support preceding fasteners loaded into the buffer magazine. Any subsequently loaded fasteners back to the docking station either under gravity, under the influence of a pressurized gas or both.

Under control of the trigger mechanism, the decompressed gas can drive the piston mechanism to act via the switch mechanism, and further push the firing pin to strike a nail at a high speed to get it shot.

The hollow shaft 17 is supported by a support tube 15 of the C-shaped frame 3. The receiver unit 14 further includes a receiver head 18 having an edge to which the punch is attached. The receiver head 18 is formed to receive the self-piercing rivet fed from the other end of the hollow shaft 17 and to allow the received self-piercing rivet to be held by the punch one by one.

    Abstract: Fastener insertion apparatus comprises a nose having a fastener delivery passage and side entry port. Fasteners such as rivets are supplied to the nose via a fastener supply passage and a fastener feeder assembly. The angular rotation and stroke length of the rivet delivery device can be easily adjusted. A double-acting piston is driven in both directions by positive air pressure to extend and rotate the delivery device in front of the nose piece and returning the rivet delivery device after rivet transfer. The use of a double-acting piston greatly enhances the speed at which the, rivet delivery device can operate.
