  • Patent number: 5590828
Abstract: The retaining device of a wire-section dispenser has a tongue-like first retaining element and a second retaining element which form boundaries for a gap. The second retaining element can be moved out of a rest position into a clamping position, which narrows the gap, and back again. When the second retaining element is located in the rest position, a stapling wire is advanced into the gap and then fixedly clamped by displacing the second retaining element into the clamping position. A cutting element, which severs the continuous stapling wire into wire sections, is synchronously moved with the second retaining element. The staple guide of a stapling head engages with its carry-along member, the wire section and moves it in the direction of rotation, overcoming the retaining force in doing so.

Abstract: Rivets are delivered from a feed chute to a transfer location and blown through a feed tube to a loading device. The presence of a rivet is sensed both at the transfer location and at the loading device and a fault indicator is operated in the event a rivet sensed and transported from the transfer location does not wind up in the loading device. The operator hits the reset button which blows clean air thru the feed tube in an attempt to free the jammed rivet. In the event this does not occur, the system assumes the operator cleared the jam and loads the next rivet into position to be transferred and continues the cycle.

  • Patent number: 4907718
Abstract: Apparatus for feeding tacks to a heel lasting machine has one or more slideways which deliver series of successive tacks from discrete receptacles to selected axially parallel flutes in the peripheral surface of a rotor in such a way that the shanks of the tacks enter the flutes and the heads of the tacks overlie the upper side of the rotor. The peripheral surface of the rotor is surrounded by the internal surface of a stationary housing which has a set of pockets for reception of entire tacks from the rotor. The transfer of tacks from the rotor into the pockets of the housing is effected pneumatically, and the conveying of tacks from the pockets into the lasting machine takes place by gravity and/or pneumatically. The apparatus has a discrete stop for the discharge end of each slideway; such stop or stops can be actuated to bias the head of the adjacent tack against the upper side of the respective slideway and to thus interrupt the delivery of tacks from the respective receptacle to the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4519534
Abstract: A machine for driving a pin into a hole in a work piece. The pins are fed by gravity in a continuous succession from a pin supply to a passage extending through a pin receiving rotor. With a pin in the rotor, the rotor is turned through a selected angle to bring the pin and the passage through the rotor into alignment with a pin driving punch. Upon actuation of the punch, the pin is driven from the rotor into a passage in an adjacent aligned sliding pin guide. Movement of the pin through the pin guide temporarily ceases when the pin encounters a resilient stop. Continued movement of the punch then moves the pin guide and the pin therein until the nose of the pin guide engages the work piece. The punch, continuing to move through the passage in the now stationary pin guide, drives the pin past the resilient stop and into the aligned hole in the work piece. Upon withdrawal of the punch, the pin guide aided by a spring returns to it original position adjacent the rotor.
