    Abstract: A closure for sealing an opening of a tubular container is disclosed, the closure having a paperboard central panel with a plurality of secondary panels extending angularly therefrom forming a surface around the perimeter of the central panel. A plastic skirt is adhered around the perimeter of the central panel and to one side of the secondary panels opposite the surface to reinforce it. A metal foil layer is adhered to the surface, the foil having a side facing the sidewall of the container with a heat-activated adhesive layer thereon. The closure is positioned on the container with the central panel in registration with the opening and the heat-activated adhesive layer engaging the sidewall of the container. The seal between the closure and the container is effected by subjecting the container to an electromagnetic induction field, whereby eddy currents induced in the metal foil by the field cause the heat-activated adhesive to form a bond between the container sidewall and the secondary panels.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a cold seal package that includes constructions wherein two substrates, or two portions of one substrate, are sealingly engaged to one another using a substantially natural latex rubber-free contact adhesive. The two substrates can be easily peeled apart without substantial damage to the substrates. Furthermore, the substrates cannot typically be resealed, or refastened, once peeled apart. That is, the cold seal formed by the adhesive between the substrates is substantially non-refastenable. Advantageously, a cold seal package of the present invention is particularly well suited for aseptic delivery of packaged goods, such as bandages, dressings, and the like.

    Abstract: This invention relates a closure with a directionally peelable opening feature for articles comprising first and second layer of different polymeric films, wherein each layer has an upper and lower surface, the upper surface of the first layer is peelably attached to the lower surface of the second layer at a separation interface, provided that when the closure is used to secure an article, at least one portion of the surface and of the upper surface of the first layer or the lower surface of the second layer is not attached to the container. The invention also relates to a container sealed with the directionally peelable closure. The closure provides a means for providing a strong sealing closure that is directionally peelable requiring little effort. In another aspect the invention provides a means for using a container more than once.

    Abstract: A sealed composite container for products is provided having a paperboard body ply with a liner ply adhered on the inner surface thereof. One end of the container is rolled outwardly to form a rim and exposing the inner surface of the liner ply, which comprises a heat sealable composition. A lid for the container, also having a layer of heat sealable composition, is placed adjacent to the exposed heat sealable composition of the container liner and heat sealed thereto. The heat seal has both an inner and an outer bead formed on either side of the heat sealed area, wherein the inner bead comprises a larger amount of the heat seal compositions than the outer bead. A method and apparatus for forming the heat seal is also provided.
