Patent number: 5340158Abstract: A shipping label that also functions as a packing list comprises a packet having a self-adhesive feature for attaching it to a shipping package with the same security of nonremovability as a standard shipping label. The packing list forms which are under the covering layer of the packet are multilayer composites that stick to the carton when applied but leave the sticky layer when pulled away. The packing list form has a place for the shipping address. The covering layer for the packet is opaque with a clear window overlaying the shipping address area. A packet may contain a plurality of packing list forms stuck one on top of the other. When each packing list form is pulled up it leaves a nonstick film on the one below it.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1993Date of Patent: August 23, 1994Assignee: Best Label Co., Inc.Inventor: James C. Patent number: 5340017Abstract: A return mailing unit is in the form of a free-standing newspaper advertising insert which includes two end panels and two intermediate panels between the end panels. The intermediate panels are at least partially connected to the end panels by a weakened fold line while the intermediate panels are connected to each other by a non-weakened fold line. One of the end panels is in the form of at least one envelope. The other end panel is divided into two sections with at least one of the sections being completely detachable at its weakened fold line and by a weakened line which divides that end panel in two so that the detachable section could be inserted into an envelope from the other end panel to serve as a return mailing unit. In a variation of the return mailing unit a magazine cover has reply card extensions at both the front and back covers. The reply card extensions are detachable from the covers so as to serve as a return mailing unit.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1992Date of Patent: August 23, 1994Inventor: John F. Tighe

Patent number: 5289972Abstract: A single sheet intermediate for a mailer type business form is Z-folded into a reusable mailer having a return envelope. The Z-folding of the intermediate provides three panels of about the same size, and a cut out covered by a transparent patch may be provided in the second panel, the patch covered by a removable outgoing addressee label. The reply address may be printed on the first face of the third panel of the mailer, or on the first face of the first panel on a detachable portion that may be inserted into the return envelope. The return envelope is defined by a generally U-shaped adhesive pattern, open at one side, with a flap having rewettable adhesive at the open side. Removable strips along the side edges of the mailer are held together by permanent adhesive, and are removed when opening the mailer and using the return envelope. The bar coding and the outgoing postage indicia are detached from the mailer when it is opened so that they are not visible on the return envelope.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1992Date of Patent: March 1, 1994Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventors: Dean N. Patent number: 5253798Abstract: A folded (e.g., Z-folded) mailer type business form is constructed so that it may be printed using an IBM 3800 printer without sticking to the printer fuser or backer rolls. Pressure sensitive adhesive patterns (e.g., discontinuous strips) are placed on the first face of a paper sheet near a first transverse edge, and the second face of the paper sheet near a second transverse edge. The spacings from the edge are about 5/16 inches in each case, sufficient to insure that the adhesive is not engaged by the printer rolls during pausing of the printer.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1992Date of Patent: October 19, 1993Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventor: Leo Lombardo

Patent number: 5238178Abstract: A multi page mailer type business form is constructed by applying a first adhesive pattern to the top sheet bottom face perimeter areas, a second adhesive pattern to the bottom sheet top face perimeter areas, and applying third and fourth adhesive patterns to the middle sheet top and bottom face perimeter areas respectively. Variable information is printed on the top, bottom and middle sheets including machine readable identification information (bar code) which is common to the sheets that are to be assembled into a final multi page mailer. The set is accumulated, and verified by scanning the identification of information, and then the perimeter adhesive patterns are sealed. The adhesive is preferably pressure sensitive adhesive, and the final mailer produced has a book-like construction. The adhesive patterns are such that the top and bottom sheets can be provided in a stack without the perimeter adhesive patterns aligning, and the middle sheets can be provided in a separate stock.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1992Date of Patent: August 24, 1993Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventors: Wilbur P. Patent number: 5174493Abstract: A business form comprises a mailer formed from a single roughly 81/2.times.11 inch sheet, with a reply envelope nestable within the mailer, yet large enough to comply with minimum size postal regulations for mailable first class documents. The mailer sheet is C or Z folded into three sections of approximately equal size with perforations defining marginal portions and main panels. The return envelope has a first portion having a length approximately twice that of a second portion, and a free end. The first and second portions are connected together to define an envelope pocket having a length approximately equal to that of the second portion, including a common first edge opposite from the free end. A first fold line is formed in the first portion at or slightly spaced from the pocket and parallel to the common edge, and a second fold line is formed in the first portion between the first fold line and the free end and parallel to the first fold line.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1991Date of Patent: December 29, 1992Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventor: Jerry E. Patent number: 4744509Abstract: A foldable letter that can be mailed. The latter encompasses a cut-out paper sheet, one surface of which is intended to receive communications or messages, and the other side of which is intended to receive postal indications, i.e., an address. This letter solves the double problem of finding a form that encourages the writing of letters in the face of the progression of electronic communication equipment and, on the other hand, of enabling easy opening of a folded and sealed letter without tearing it. The proposed solution relates to an appropriate carrier for handwritten communications, and a closure technique offering to the receiver an acceptable letter in its original size. The letter has a square basic shape and includes a rectangular field, the long sides of which are parallel, but not symmetrical, to one of the diagonals of the square.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1986Date of Patent: May 17, 1988Inventor: Ingrid Buchler-Dopheide

Patent number: 4731048Abstract: A method for producing mass quantities of discrete envelope and letter assemblies in a continuous operation, each of which includes an envelope and a separate letter having a business-fold disposed within the envelope, both formed from the same single sheet of material, and enabling the producer to print a personalized letter upon the sheet prior to the formation of the envelope assembly. The highly desirable end result which is attained is that the completed letter is in a business-letter-fold and the sheet moves continuously forward as the assembly is formed, such that the salutory heading of the letter opens to view when the letter is withdrawn from the envelope, and the signatory panel is folded between the salutation panel and the intermediate portion of the letter. The method is capable of continuous operation inasmuch as each sheet continuously moves in the same direction throughout each of the steps of the method.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1986Date of Patent: March 15, 1988Assignee: Victory Envelope, Inc.Inventors: Gary L. Patent number: 4600141Abstract: A method for producing quantities of discrete envelope assemblies, and assemblies produced thereby, including at least one separate enclosure for each assembly, the invention allows formation of the envelope and enclosure from the same sheet of material and allows marking of both envelope and enclosure with indicia which can be unique to each assembly. The method particularly allows continuous, high speed manufacture of assemblies personalized by name and address or the like by printing the indicia on a web of sheet material followed by formation of the web into a plurality of separate envelopes and enclosures with the envelopes and enclosures having like indicia being associated, the method including the use of a fugitive adhesive effected during manufacture, the contour cutting of the web prior to folding and the maintenance of a singular direction of travel of the web and element cut therefrom throughout manufacture.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1985Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Assignee: Bedford Engineering Co.Inventors: William P.
