  • Publication number: 20100038444
Abstract: Many areas watered by prior art oscillating sprinklers are substantially rectangular. However, prior art oscillating sprinklers typically produce generally or substantially elliptical water distribution patterns. This geometric incompatibility causes problems and inefficiencies. Embodiments of the current invention include an oscillating sprinkler that automatically produces a substantially rectangular water distribution pattern. The substantially rectangular water distribution pattern may be produced by automatically controlling the distance from the sprinkler that streams of water travel before impacting the ground. This is accomplished by automatically and sequentially opening and closing and/or restricting flow to select nozzles at select points and within select portions of the oscillation cycle. A current invention oscillating sprinkler may reduce waste water, may reduce run-off waste water, and may automatically provide water to the corner areas of typical substantially rectangular areas to be watered.

The spray head is rotatably mounted on a body adapted for connection to a pressurized water supply, with interengaging bearing components providing predetermined friction brake torque resisting spray head rotation. By appropriately designing the nozzle port area and offset geometry, drive torque and brake torque is maintained at a substantially constant ratio for relatively slow and substantially constant spray head rotational speed over a range of normal water supply operating pressures. • Patent number: 7198456
Abstract: A rotary jetting tool including a pressure-balanced rotor, which is achieved using a vented volume. Axial movement of the rotor relative to the housing caused by pressure imbalances acting on the rotor selectively uncovers or opens a vent that places the volume in fluid communication with an ambient volume, enabling the rotor to achieve a pressure balanced condition. A plurality of radial clearance seals between the rotor and the housing are used to provide hydrodynamic bearings to reduce friction between the rotor and housing. The diameters of the seals are manipulated to facilitate pressure balancing of the rotor. In one embodiment, the rotor includes a centrifugal brake configured to control a maximum rotational speed of the rotor. Pressurized fluid is introduced into the rotor in an axial direction, enabling a relatively large upstream settling chamber to be incorporated into the rotor, thereby reducing inlet turbulence and improving jet quality.

The apparatus features a gear train driven by the fluid received by an inlet, a stationary housing, a rotatable housing mounted for rotation on the stationary housing about a first axis, and a nozzle for ejecting the fluid, the nozzle being rotatably mounted on the rotatable housing so that the nozzle rotates about a second axis. A gear train is located between the inlet and the nozzle. In addition, a first gear, which, along with the gear train, drives rotation of the rotatable housing about the first axis, and a second gear, which drives the rotation of the nozzle housing about the second axis, are disposed on opposite sides of the second axis. A deflector deflects fluid running along the input drive shaft away from the gear train housing and a passage drains the deflected fluid to the surrounding environment.

  • Patent number: 6062490
Abstract: A sprinkling apparatus constructed as a square sprinkler has a nozzle arrangement with a straight row of nozzles, whereof each has a nozzle inlet connected by a nozzle duct to a nozzle outlet. At least in a portion between the nozzle inlet and nozzle outlet, the nozzles are constructed as rubber-like water guidance ducts, which are disconnectable by a force action transversely to the water flow direction. For the disconnection of individual nozzles clamping sliders are provided and are displaceable transversely to the water flow direction against the rubber-like nozzles and in the case of a displacement in each case disconnect or release again a nozzle. This permits a very variable adjustment of the sprinkling pattern.

  • Patent number: 5918813
Abstract: A rotating spray head (2) includes a hollow stem (4) to which a body (18) is rotatably mounted. The body has a generally cylindrical outside surface (14) and distal and proximal ends (18,16); the ends have generally U-shaped edges (49). The inlet stem and body define a generally cylindrical reservoir (38) therebetween. A pair of offset side nozzles (42) are formed through the outside surface of the body. End nozzles (48) are formed through each of the U-shaped edges. Liquid flows from the reservoir through the side nozzles along offset flow paths to spin the body and through the end nozzles along flow paths passing generally through the axis. The rotating spray head thus provides a simple, compact spray nozzle which can provide a full 360.degree. spray pattern.

Abstract: A side driving element for an irrigation device with an oscillating arm comprises a casing. Inside the casing there is rotatably housed a turbine rotor having an axis of rotation parallel to that of the oscillating arm of the irrigation device. The rotor powers the oscillating arm. An external mouth connects to a supply conduit of an irrigation liquid. The mouth has an axis lying in a plane orthogonal to the axis of rotation of the rotor, and communicates with an internal rectilinear conduit aligned with the mouth and directed toward the rotor, so that a jet of irrigation liquid supplied by said supply conduit is not subjected to deviations before reaching the rotor.

  • Patent number: 5617886
Abstract: In a first embodiment, a high pressure fluid blaster includes a rotating nozzle which has a plurality of separate fluid jet orifices. The fluid jet orifices are geometrically configured such that rotation of the nozzle in a single direction, i.e. clockwise, results in the desired metal cleaning or stripping. The plurality of jets are divided into two or more sets, each set having at least one jet therein, with the jets in each set oriented at a different angle from the jets in the other sets. This configuration will produce tubular streams of fluid as the nozzle rotates such that the streams first converge, then intersect, and finally diverge. As the jet streams are applied to a surface after the streams have diverged, they score the surface with concentric circular grooves due to the force of the high pressure fluid.
