Air Shield Surrounds Projected Airstream (i.e., Air Gun) Patents (Class 239/291)
  • Publication number: 20080308651
Abstract: The present invention is designed to fill a gap in the self-serve car wash process. Up until now customers at a self-serve car wash would be forced to use an ‘inferior’ drying system, located within a bay or outside, somewhere on the car wash property, or use and expensive drive-thru automatic nozzle system, or such manual means as a towel or chamois, to complete the drying cycle of the self-serve car wash process. The present apparatus addresses the new refinements and innovations leading to a self-serve hand-held nozzle system that has an improved overall performance, increased mechanical durability, reduced cost of manufacture, and an easy to use, ergonomic design, allowing for increased comfort and simplistic operation. In addition, the hand held nozzle has a first handle and a second handle. The first handle may rotate with respect to the second handle. When the first handle and the second handle are in a first position air may flow out of a first end of the nozzle.

Abstract: A nozzle that produces an outlet velocity air, or other fluid jet, is provided with safety passages which achieve the safety requirement of automatically reducing the local exit pressure “dead end” limit to 30 psig or less when the nozzle outlet is partially or completely obstructed. The safety passages do not reduce the effectiveness of the normal function of the air, or other fluid, jet through the provision of a check valve to block undesirable reverse flow in the safety passage(s) thus avoiding ambient fluid flow to the nozzle exit that degrades the nozzle's normal operating air, or other fluid, jet. This is especially useful for supersonic air gun nozzles which have been adapted to digging in the ground, and other purposes, but it is also useful for sonic and subsonic nozzles that are used for other purposes such as cleaning, and other applications.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for droplet steering is disclosed herein. A throated structure having a nozzle defines a converging throat with an inlet and an outlet and a vectored fluid stream directed therethrough. The fluid stream is driven through the system via a vacuum pump. As the fluid approaches the outlet, its velocity increases and is drawn away from the nozzle through a connecting channel. As a droplet is ejected from a liquid therebelow, it will have a first trajectory until it is introduced to the high velocity fluid stream at the perimeter of the interior walls of the nozzle. The fluid accordingly steers the momentum of the droplet such that it obtains a second or corrected trajectory. Alternative variations include an electrically chargeable member, e.g., a pin, positionable to be in apposition to the outlet and capillary tubes for controlling the ejection surface of the pool of source fluid.

Abstract: A device for spraying paint having a spring activated cartridge in a body. The flow of fan air, atomizing air and paint are controlled by pistons within the cartridge. The fan air and atomizing air exit the body through slots to provide high volume, low pressure. The fan air is distributed uniformly by a baffle flange within a guide ring. The fan air exiting the air cap passes through a conical opening. Compensating air is provided over the surface of the air cap for improved coating. Isolation rings for reduction of electrical leakage are integrally formed in the body.

Abstract: A combined compressed air blow gun and tire inflation chuck is disclosed. The tire inflation chuck is fixed to a wand mounted to a handle in which a valve operated by a trigger controls flow of compressed air to the chuck. The chuck includes opposing tire stem receiving openings. An internal plunger in the chuck permits flow of compressed air from the wand through one opening of the chuck when no tire stem is inserted in either tire stem receiving opening in the chuck. When a tire stem is inserted in either opening of the chuck, compressed air is prevented by the plunger from passing to the opposing end of the chuck.

Abstract: A portable system is provide for spraying viscous materials to form a truck bed liner. Tanks of coating materials that include an activator and resin are contained in a heated, portable cart which also houses a motor driving two pumps to pump the coating materials through air lines to a spray gun at a rate that can be varied by an operator. A high volume, low pressure air compressor is also mounted on the cart and in fluid communication with the air gun. The coating materials are forced through a mixing tube and out of a nozzle tip where it is atomized by the high volume air for spraying to coat the truck bed liner. A pressurized flush tank is activated immediately after spraying in order to clear the coating materials from the spray gun. A modified, dual component caulking gun containing a preselected, second colored resin and activator can be attached to the nozzle tip for decorative coloring or texturing.
