Patent number: 7318260Abstract: A novel quick release locking mechanism is disclosed. The locking mechanism is comprised of a male latch member and a female receptacle. The male latch member is comprised of an arbor with a planar handle at its proximal end and a catch apparatus at its distal end. The arbor is further equipped with a slidable annulus that moves between the lower margin of the planar handle and the catch apparatus. The female receptacle is comprised of a housing and a duality of notched resilient arms. Operation of the locking mechanism is achieved by introduction of the male latch member into the female receptacle with sufficient force to urge open the resilient arms which then springably close around the catch means, thus locking the mechanism. The female receptacle is further supplied with appropriate stops to prevent separation forces from inducing upward travel of the resilient arms during use, thus increasing lock strength and durability.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2005Date of Patent: January 15, 2008Assignee: Convertible Shoe, LLCInventor: Frank Gerald Pearce

Patent number: 4651136Abstract: An electromagnetic release apparatus and method are provided for unfastening a magnetically actuated surveillance marker clip assembly from an article. The release apparatus includes a primary solenoid coil that, when energized, produces a magnetic field of sufficient force to initially unlock the clip assembly for removal. A secondary magnet produces another magnetic field sufficient in force to retain the clip assembly in the unlocked position. The secondary magnet is mounted to a piston slidably received in the central bore of the primary solenoid coil. The primary solenoid coil is energized by inserting the clip assembly into the central bore of the coil, thereby, pressing the piston downwardly until it closes a "one-shot" microswitch. The electrical charge of a capacitor is then discharged through the primary coil to produce the relatively high power magnetic field for unlocking the clip assembly.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1985Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: Allied CorporationInventors: Philip M. Patent number: 3973418Abstract: A releasable, reusable, tamperproof device for attaching an anti-theft monitor to an article of merchandise is disclosed. The attachment device includes a tack adapted to be passed through the monitor and the article and into a keeper. The keeper encloses a one-way fastener of the type having opposed legs defining surfaces for gripping the pointed shank of the tack. Compression of the opposed legs to a releasing position permits withdrawal of the tack. In accordance with one embodiment, the keeper includes openings through which rotatable key means are insertable for engaging and displacing the legs to the tack-releasing position. In another embodiment the keeper incorporates flexible diaphragms dividing the keeper into a pair of side chambers separated by a central chamber enclosing the one-way fastener. Pressurization of the side chambers deflects the diaphragms into engagement with the fastener legs and causes displacement thereof to the tack-releasing position.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1975Date of Patent: August 10, 1976Assignee: Mrs. Lawrence IsraelInventor: Leo R.
