  • Patent number: 5443155
Abstract: A wrist restraining device for restraining a person uses two strap element defined wrist enclosing loops and wherein strap lengths extend from the loops and are joined such as to define a U-shaped stiffened bight configuration with the bight facing a cinch bar used to tighten the loops. With tightening of the loops, the bight enlarges to a larger shaped configuration that serves as a handle locating distant from the person's restrained wrists and hands so that an officer can grasp the handle and use it as a control for controlling the person's movement without unnecessarily exposing the officer to the restrained person's hands. Structure to minimize pressure imposed on the person's wrists with the device is included in the device. Abstract: A cable tie with a strap guide ramp includes a strap, a locking head secured to the first end of the strap, a plurality of walls on the locking head forming a strap positioning channel, a pawl positioned within the channel and pivotally mounted to the locking head and strap guide ramp contiguous to the pawl for directing the tip of the strap during initial insertion of the strap into the channel away from the pawl and towards the strap positioning channel. The strap guide ramp prevents plastic deformation of the pawl during insertion of the tip of the strap when the tip of the strap is inadvertently directed against the pawl which enhances the reliability of the cable tie and is especially useful for cable tie formed of less resilient materials.

  • Patent number: 5267967
Abstract: A retention device, particularly useful for drainage tubes and the like, having a pad for adhesive attachment to a patient's skin at the exit/entry site for a post-surgical drainage tube. The device includes a retainer body secured to the pad and provided with a strap to be looped and tightened about the drainage tube for immobilizing that tube. A passage in the body receives the free end of the strap and a latching mechanism prevents retraction of the strap unless a pair of side flanges of the body are squeezed towards each other to alter the configuration of the body's top wall and cause upward disengagement of a restraining pawl from the ratchet teeth of the strap. In one form of the invention, the strap is oriented horizontally and the passage is spaced well above the pad so that the horizontal plane of the passage substantially bisects the loop along its axis, thereby allowing portions of the loop to be located above and below the entrance to the passage.

  • Patent number: 5263231
Abstract: In an injection molded cable tie that includes an elongated strap with an adjacent locking head at one end of the strap, a tip at the opposite end of the strap and ratchet teeth on one side of the strap, wherein the locking head defines an opening for allowing the tip end of the strap to be pulled through said opening and includes a pawl having teeth for engaging the ratchet teeth to lock the strap in the locking head after the tip end of the strap has been pulled through said opening, the pawl is thick enough so that when the strap is under normal tension in a locked position the pawl will not bend to such an extent that the pawl teeth lose engagement with the ratchet teeth and enable the strap to be at least partially released from its locked position, one side of the pawl includes the pawl teeth and the same side and/or the opposite side of the pawl includes at least one hollow section formed by the mold.

  • Patent number: 5230541
Abstract: A fastener for cabinets is provided, which can be easily adjusted to securely fasten together the paired handles of a cabinet, regardless of their spacing. The cabinet fastener includes a housing having, on one side, a latch opening of predetermined width, a finger opening disposed adjacent the latch opening and a stop disposed between the latch opening and the finger opening. One end of a flexible, elongated band having two ends passes through an opening in the housing on the side opposite the side having the latch opening, and is adjustably retained in said housing. A resilient primary latch is disposed at the opposite end of the band, which has a normal width greater than the width of the latch opening and is adapted to resiliently deflect to a smaller width to fit through the latch opening and spring back so that a portion of the primary latch protrudes into the finger opening and engages the stop, preventing the primary latch from being pulled from the latch opening.

  • Patent number: 5224244
Abstract: A bundling fastener for securing a bundling band wrapped around a plurality of articles and having engaging slots or protrusions formed thereon at equal intervals. The fastener includes an inserting chamber into which the bundling band is inserted, and an accommodating chamber for receiving the end portion of the bundling band after it has been wrapped around the articles. These chamber are adjacent one another and each has a height substantially equal to the thickness of the bundling band. Further, each of the chambers includes a flexible deflecting means and saw-tooth-shaped locking protrusions to be engaged with the engaging slots or protrusions of the band, in such a manner that the locking protrusions of the inserting chamber are opposite in direction to those of the accommodating chamber. Due to this construction, the bundling band is economically used, and the bundling operation is achieved with high space efficiency.
