Publication number: 20030041420Abstract: An end-fitting buckle having a cam cover that allows webbing to be inserted when the cam cover is in an up position. After inserted, a free end of the webbing is pulled to tighten the webbing while the cover is in an intermediate position. The cover may then be closed to lock both the free end and load end. When the cover is locked, movement of the load end is prevented by teeth in the cam cover. The teeth lock the free end into place, holding the set position of the webbing. The cover design also promotes use of varied thicknesses of webbing, because the cam action of the cover utilizes friction between the two ends of the webbing instead of a pinching action.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2002Publication date: March 6, 2003Applicant: Bodypoint Designs, Inc.Inventors: Matthew Kosh, John N. Patent number: 4674155Abstract: The pivoted jaws (2,3) of a buckle for a strap (4) are held together by fastening means (22,23) which define a first closed position of the buckle, but which are such as to allow closer approach of the jaws when they squeeze the strap between them. A moment is exerted, if the strap is pulled, between an edge (9) over which it is turned and which is offset from the pivot (10) and this has the effect of causing closer approach of the jaws and thus an increasedly positive hold. Teeth (20) on one of the jaws are of a saw-tooth profile to permit movement of the strap in one direction even when the buckle is closed. Both jaws may be respective one-piece integral plastics mouldings.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1985Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Avon Industrial Polymers LimitedInventors: Ivan R. Patent number: 4637099Abstract: A molded strap fastener of a generally rectangular shape includes a first cross bar for retaining therearound a looped end portion of a strap, a retainer portion disposed laterally adjacent to the cross bar and frictionally engageable with the strap end portion, and a second cross bar fixedly connected to the other strap end. The first cross bar includes a pair of diametrically opposite sharp corners and the retainer portion has a sharp corner, these sharp corners serving as stops to retain the strap in position against accidental displacement even under heavy tensioning forces. To provide a greater resistance to strap loosening, the first and second cross bars lie in different levels so that a rotational force is created upon the fastener when the latter is in actual use, said force growing greater the larger the tension and thus urging the retainer portion to firmly grip the strap end at its sharp corner.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1985Date of Patent: January 20, 1987Assignee: Nippon Notion Kogyo Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kazumi Kasai

Patent number: 3967347Abstract: A buckle for securing plastic strapping around an object. A pair of independently movable fingers are hingedly mounted by flexible plastic strips in spaced relationship on a rectangular base. The base has spaced pairs of integral side and end members which form a rectangular aperature therebetween. The fingers are adapted to be folded into superimposed, overlapped position along the side frame members. A post is formed on each of the end members at the midpoints thereof. The posts lie between the spaced ends of the fingers and in close proximity thereto when the fingers are in folded position. The fingers extend through loops formed in the ends of the strapping material with the finger ends being drawn inwardly against the posts upon tensioning of the strap. The posts absorb much of the tensioning force exerted on the fingers and distribute the remaining force equally on the fingers, thereby reducing twisting and breaking of the fingers during installation.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1975Date of Patent: July 6, 1976Assignee: Indenco, Inc.Inventor: George J.
