  • Patent number: 5115541
Abstract: A hose clip wherein a flexible annular strap can be place around one end portion of a hose and a relatively small portion (less than 50 percent) of the inner side of the strap is overlapped by the convex external surface of a deformable insert. The space between the insert and the strap confines one or more springs, or one or more springs are outwardly adjacent the strap, to bias the concave internal surface of the insert against the adjacent portion of the hose. The strap can constitute an endless ring or it can be of finite length and the hose clip then comprises a tightening mechanism for the strap. The insert can be biased by one or more leaf springs, by one or more C-springs or by one or more coil springs. The spring or springs can be caused to store more energy than required to maintain the hose in sealing engagement with a pipe or nipple, and the surplus energy is then dissipated as soon as the strap is placed around the hose and the tubular body is inserted into the hose.

  • Patent number: 4939822
Abstract: A fastening device is manufactured of a strip of sheet material and comprises a flexible tongue capable of being looped around an element to be fastened and a holding part. The tongue has a hook-shaped free end and an end opposite to the hook-shaped free end, and the holding part projects at an angle from the opposite tongue end and is bendable towards the tongue along a folding line adjacent the opposite tongue end. The holding part is integral with the tongue and has a hook-up edge spaced from the tongue end and arranged to be engaged by the hook-shaped free end when the flexible tongue is looped around the element to be fastened, and it is operable as a lever upon bending the holding part towards the tongue along the folding line for tightening and closing the fastening device when the tongue is looped around the element to be fastened and the hook-up edge of the holding part has been engaged by the hook-shaped free end of the tongue.

  • Patent number: 4843686
Abstract: A hose clamp for securing a flexible conduit onto a fitting is disclosed. The hose clamp includes a flat elongated metallic strip having a pair of end portions. The strip has a biasing portion integrally formed from the strip between the two end portions. The biasing portion provides the strip with resilient characteristics. Also, a mechanism for securing the two end portions to one another is formed or secured onto the end portions of the metallic strip. Also, an integral mechanism may be formed on the strip for securing the clamp to the flexible conduit prior to assembly onto the fitting.

  • Patent number: 4650221
Abstract: A safety clamp system for securing the lever arms of a quick connect coupling to prevent the accidental movement of the arms which would cause a failure of the coupling mechanism for two coupling pipes. Once the pipes have been joined by a standard quick connect coupling, the clamp of the present invention is positioned to encircle the lever arms and hold them down secure against the body of the coupling. The safety clamp is separate from the coupling mechanism and is itself not an aid in the joining of the pipes. The clamp arms encircle approximately 270 degrees of the pipes circumference, making contact only at a few points about the coupling's periphery, some of the contact being flat, face-to-face surface area engagement with some "L" shaped hooking, and utilizes a resilient spring biasing hooking mechanism to prevent the separate, pipe coupling mechanism from accidently becoming undone but allowing relatively easily disengagement of the clamp from the coupling when so desired.

  • Patent number: 4643460
Abstract: A concrete pumping pipe coupling operates at nominal pressures of 2,000 psi and momentary peaks in excess of 3,000 psi. A two-piece hinged coupling forms a cylindrical enclosure encircling adjacent pipe ends. A two-piece latch releasably interconnects the ends of the two coupling sections. The latch includes a lever pivotally mounted to a link which is pivotally connected to the one coupling section. The lever pivots on a cam member connected to the other coupling section. The link includes a bolt threaded into an elongated nut. The threaded connection is for varying the length of the link. The elongated nut has an annular inner groove with a stop wall at each end. A spring-loaded limit pin is slidably mounted in a blind hole in the bolt and projects into the recess. The stop walls in the nut limits the movement of the bolt from the nut and thereby the extension of the link.

  • Patent number: 4572552
Abstract: A clip for sealingly connecting to a nipple, a pipe of a material that cold flows when subjected to prolonged mechanical pressure. The clip includes a constriction band intended to encircle the pipe and adapted for tensioning by a screw, which is rotatably mounted in a holder. One end of the band is secured to a nut travelling along the screw when the latter is turned, while the other end of the band coacts with one leg of a U-shaped spring for bringing the legs of the U-shaped spring together when the band is tightened around the pipe upon rotation of the screw. An indication element is held between the holder and the U-shaped spring for automatically indicating when predetermined relative travel of the legs of the spring has been attained.

  • Patent number: 4541152
Abstract: A quick hook-up and release toggle and a quickly separable anchor for adjustably interconnecting the anchored live and dead ends of a belt especially suited for constraining the abdominal portion of a weight lifter's torso, and the like, the belt being of substantial width and thickness. The releasable toggle is operable to instantly draw up or allow interconnected separation of the live and dead belt ends, having two operational conditions: a tightened closed condition wherein a link occupies an over-center position drawing the anchors into a predetermined position: and a released interconnected and opened condition wherein the link swings free for complete separation of the live and dead end anchors by manipulation of anchor pins from belt holes, and at least one anchor pin from hooked engagement with the belt.

  • Patent number: 4497092
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a device for clamping two axially telescoping rods in a selected telescoped position, wherein the device includes a case supported at the end of the outside one of the two rods and the case encloses an annular bush wrapped around the inside one of the two rods. One side of the bush is open for defining an axial gap. Terminal flanges extend away from the bush at opposite sides of the gap. A shaft extends from the second of the terminal portions, through the first of the terminal portions and then outside the case. A two-position cam is journaled to the shaft and is shaped to engage the exterior of the case. As the cam is moved between its two positions, it selectively draws the terminal portion flanges together or permits them to move apart for selectively clamping or releasing the bush on the rod. A spring normally biases the terminal portion flanges apart.

  • Patent number: 4439070
Abstract: The method for restoring an underwater wood, concrete or steel piling or other underwater structure includes the steps of: placing a jacket around a portion of a piling to be restored; securing the jacket in place around the piling so as to create a closed, annular space between the piling and the jacket; injecting, in at least one location at the lower end of the annular space, an epoxy resin composition into the annular space while at the same time venting the annular space in at least one location at the upper end of the annular space until the epoxy resin composition begins to escape from the upper end of the annular space. The underwater injection jacket comprises a sheet of flexible material having an upper edge and a lower edge and which is coilable into a generally cylindrically shaped jacket about an underwater piling with first and second mating edges of the sheet adapted to be secured in place relative to each other to form the jacket about the piling.

  • Patent number: 4073317
Abstract: A clamping device comprises a body portion having a pair of parallel flanges secured to opposite sides thereof and a slot formed through one end of the body portion. A ring is pivotally mounted on the flanges and suitably sized to freely pivot over the one end of the body portion whereby a first end of a strap may be inserted through the ring and reverse folded under the strap. A second end of the strap is then inserted through the slot and is pulled to tighten the strap about an article, such as an insulated pipe. The point whereat the ring is pivotally mounted on the body portion is then pivoted into over-center relationship relative to the point whereat the second end of the strap engages the slot to superimpose the body portion over the second end of the strap to tightly clamp the same about the article.
