Abstract: Stowage pieces (10) are used to secure containers on board ships against horizontal displacement. The stowage pieces (10) have an abutment (15), which on opposite sides has stowage cones (16, 17) which engage in upper and lower corner fittings (12, 13) of containers stacked one above another. These stowage pieces (10) must be fitted to upper corner fittings (13) of the containers already stowed on board the ship before a next container is stowed. This requires the use of auxiliary personnel on the containers already stowed on board the ship, which more recent safety regulations no longer permit. The stowage piece (10) according to the invention has on its upper stowage cone (16) a rotatable cross-latch (21), by means of which the stowage piece (10) can be locked under lower corner fittings (12) of a container from the pier, before the container comes on board the ship. As a result, auxiliary personnel on the containers located on board the ship become superfluous.

Abstract: A releasable semi-automatic clamping device for holding down a corner fitting of a container to an underlying support, such as a load platform of a road or rail vehicle, in which the device enters the corner fitting via a lower entrance aperture upon relative closing movement between the support and the corner fitting. The device comprises a clamping head which is rotatable between a clamping position and a release position, and which is usually biased towards the clamping position by a biasing means. A remotely operated release mechanism is coupled with the clamping device and can be operated remotely to move the clamping head from the clamping position to the release position, and includes a remote actuator positionable at a remote operating location, e.g. the cab of a vehicle or in the cockpit of an aircraft, and an elongate connection, preferably a cable, interconnects the remote actuator and the clamping head.

  • Patent number: 6519816
Abstract: A container coupling device is provided which can prevent displacement of an upper container and which is superior in durability. Upper and lower positioning protrusions provided integrally on top and bottom sides of a flange are inserted into engaging holes formed in corner fittings of upper and lower containers. The upper positioning protrusion is formed in the center of its top surface with a downwardly extending hole. A rotatable rotary shaft inserted in the hole has at its upper portion an engaging member which can engage the peripheral edge of the engaging hole of the corner fitting of the upper container. The upper and lower positioning protrusions are inserted in the engaging holes of the corner fittings of the upper and lower containers to prevent displacement of the upper and lower containers. The upper positioning protrusion, which is integral with the flange, bears a load due to inclination of the upper container. This improves durability of the container coupling device.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a locking device which can be engaged in a conventional ISO aperture of a corner casting of an upper and lower shipping container stacked on a carrier to lock the containers together. The locking device has a housing having a compression pad with an upper and lower shear block. A spring-biased twist-head is engaged to the upper shear lock, and a spring-biased hook is engaged in the housing. When the upper and lower shear block of the lock are respectively engaged in the ISO aperture of the upper and lower corner castings of the stacked containers and the twist-lock and the hook are each in a closed position within the corner casting, relative movement between the containers is limited.

  • Patent number: 6406508
Abstract: A structure for securing the top and bottom cover portions of an air filter includes a wing member secured to the bottom cover portion. The wing member is attached to the cover portion through a post. The wing member has a wedged surface which is selectively moved along a wedged surface on a slot in the upper cover surface. The wedged surfaces cam the wing member to pivot. Once the wing member has moved through the slot, it is biased back and in a direction opposed to the rotation caused by the wedged surfaces. The wing member is thus secured on a surface on the upper cover member adjacent the slot. The wing member thus secures the two cover members in a snap fit connection. To release the snap fit connection, one merely biases the wing member in an opposed direction.

Abstract: The invention relates to a coupling piece for the detachable connection of corner fittings of adjacent containers, especially of containers stacked one above the other on board ships. In order to reduce the manual effort involved in coupling together containers, semi-automatic coupling pieces are known which only need to be manually attached to one container and pre-locked. A full locking after the containers have been placed one on top of the other is effected automatically. Coupling pieces of this type require however, in many respects, a complex automatic actuating mechanism. In order to simplify the automatic actuating mechanism, a plurality of stop faces (43, 44 and 45) are provided, which are offset to one another on the locking bolt (21) and which can be brought alternately into a corresponding position to a stop face (54) on a spring-loaded ram (23).

Abstract: Coupling piece for the detachable connection of corner fittings of containers stacked one above the other on board ships. Work to reduce the manual effort involved in coupling together the containers, often semi-automatically. The satisfactory operation of such coupling pieces depends essentially upon the observance of various operating specifics. If this is not done, malfunctions will result. The coupling piece according to the invention is intended to be able to be operated in a simple and error-free manner in order to avoid such malfunctions. To this end, an actuating device (22) for twisting the locking bolt (21) displaying crossbolts (32, 33) for connecting the containers is provided with a rope (49) displaying two pull cords (57, 58), which rope is connected centrally to the locking bolt (21).
