  • Patent number: 5308133
Abstract: A combination truck bed liner and fastening system for truck beds having one or more substantially vertical bed sidewalls and a front wall having a top rail with an outwardly facing lip. The combination includes a truck bed liner having a floor and integrally attached side and front walls extending upwardly therefrom to upper edges, and at least one slot formed adjacent that upper edge. At least one resilient snap-type clip having a hook end and stay end is provided, wherein compressive force is applied between the hook and stay ends in use by the inwardly biased nature of the clip. In attached condition, the hook end of the clip extends outwardly to lockingly overlie the truck bed rail, while the stay end overlies at least a portion of the upper edge of the liner and includes an outwardly protruding stay which interacts with the recess in the truck bed liner. As a result, the clip is compressively fitted over the upper edge of the liner and the rail to hold the liner in place without a need for drilling.

  • Patent number: 5263233
Abstract: An apparatus and an electrostatic process employing the apparatus which is capable of flocking spring clips of the type used in commercial applications, such as those used in the automotive industry to attach an instrument panel to an interior support structure. The apparatus and process are capable of securely adhering the flocking fibers uniformly over the irregular surfaces of a spring clip such that the spring clip can be more readily assembled while also acting to significantly dampen the vibration between the members joined by the clip. In addition, the apparatus also provides the added feature of requiring minimal space by introducing the fibers at a single point on the perimeter of the apparatus. The fibers are guided by the perimeter of the apparatus until a sufficient electrostatic charge is imparted to attract the fibers to the spring clip.

Abstract: A stiff and resilient body is provided including a pair of upstanding arm portions having upper and lower ends. At least the upper ends of the arm portions are upwardly divergent in the static conditions thereof and the lower ends of the arms are joined together by a suspension structure for suspending a selected article therefrom. The upper ends of the arms include integral downwardly and oppositely outwardly inclined catch flanges supported therefrom with each arm upper end and the associated catch flange defining a downwardly opening channel on the outer side of the corresponding arm remote from the other arm upper end. The catch flanges are relatively downwardly divergent and include remote upwardly convergent outer side wedge surfaces for camming the upper ends of the arms toward each other as the clip is upwardly displaced between spaced flanges of a bar joist from therebelow to a level with the lower ends of the catch flanges disposed above the upper marginal edges of the flanges.

  • Patent number: 4514003
Abstract: Securing a decorative and protective trim strip or molding along an exposed edge of an automotive vehicle body as, for example, an outline molding around a wheel well opening. A resilient strip having the desired decorative configuration and appearance is adhesively secured along the edge of the sheet material of the body, and spring clips having a cross sectional configuration complementary to that of the resilient strip are placed over the strip and flange of the sheet material in areas where excessive stress may occur, such as at least at the ends of the strip. The clips insure that the adhesive layer of the strip will remain in engagement with the vehicle without the necessity of fasteners piercing the sheet material.

  • Patent number: 4461514
Abstract: A double retention clip for securing wheel covers, wheel trim rings, or the like to automotive wheel rims. A J-shaped spring steel clip is provided having barbed tabs on an inner arm portion. The inner arm portion is inserted in a recessed boss of the wheel cover and secured by the barbs. An outer arm includes a cam portion and an inbent portion having barbs at the outer end thereof. When a wheel cover is installed with the clips, the barbed inbent portion engages the inner axial flange portion of the wheel rim and the cam portion engages the inner surface of the annular axial safety hump of the wheel rim. Both the cam portion and the inbent portion are then under high outward radial tension.

  • Patent number: 4402118
Abstract: A generally "U" or "V" shaped clip type fastener adapted to secure a projection on one part in an opening or aperture in another part. The fastener has a lead portion for insertion into the opening with locking tabs for attachment to the projection and a trailing locking portion which passes over the projection and has oppositely disposed locking shoulder abutting the sides of the opening to lock the projection into the opening. In this arrangement, the clip can be inserted onto the projection with the locking tabs retaining the clip on the projection. The part with the projection can then be secured to the part with the opening by merely inserting the clip into the opening and forcing the parts together to "snap fit" the clip into the opening.
