    Abstract: The application describes a watch band and methods of manufacture and use thereof. In various embodiments, the watch band includes a first portion and a second portion continuous with the first portion. The first portion can be made of a first material and be adapted to be located directly under a back of a watch case. The second portion can include a series of rigid links formed from a second material that is different than the first material. The second portion can be adapted to wrap around the wrist of a user. In various embodiments, the watch band can feature offset links to enable the watch band to curl around a user's wrist while maintaining the watch case at a low profile above the first portion. In some cases, the watch band can include a detachment mechanism remote from where the watch band attaches to the watch case.

    Abstract: During back surgery, a surgeon can, with one hand, apply traction against tissue in a surgical wound by using a retraction device that includes an upstanding post and a surgical retractor, the handle of which is formed with ratchet teeth for securing the retractor to the post against elastic recoil of the retracted tissue. The post preferably is integral with a slip-lock which can be slidably mounted on a rectangular rail of a framework that extends above the patient. The slip-lock includes a floating jaw that is loosely pinned to a slide and becomes releasably locked to the rail when the elastic recoil of retracted tissue pulls on the post. Because the retraction device holds the tissue precisely in the position to which it is set by the surgeon, the hazards involved in using assistants to hold retractors are avoided.

    Abstract: A portable clamp/hanger device that provides a rigid connection that is releasable between a support beam and a hoist or other load-carrying means. The device includes a movable platform pivoted to a stationary U-shaped member with an opening therebetween. The flange of a support beam is located within the opening and the platform moves against the flange by tightening an underlying screw threaded through a hollow anchor shaft which is secured to the lower arm of the stationary member. A collar swivels universally about a portion of the anchor shaft and includes posts from which swings a hanger for attaching hooks, shackles, rope ties and the like. The platform is provided with an adjustable cleat for adapting to various sized beams. A locking mechanism is included to prevent loosening of the screw. Alternatively, auxiliary pressure can be applied to the movable jaw with a cam and ratchet mechanism or other force transfer device.
