The engaging device comprising a supporting part and an engaging part mounted on the supporting part, for pivotal movement about two spaced apart axes defined by pivot pins, between a stable engaging condition and a stable release condition. A portion of the engaging part disposed between the two axes is resiliently flexible and adapted to undergo resilient deflection as the engaging part moves between the two stable conditions thereby to urge the engaging part into one or the other of the stable conditions. The supporting part may define a housing which accommodates the engaging part and which provides structural rigidity.

The holder includes two longitudinal extruded panels each having a longitudinal C-shaped flange situated along one of the panel edges. The panels are movable with respect to each other in a transverse direction about this hinge coupling between an open and a closed position. The flanges are dimensioned in such a way that rotation of the panels with respect to one another in the transverse direction results in one of the flanges being elastically deformed during the first part of the motion, with the resulting stored elastic energy being abruptly released during the second part of the panel motion, thereby giving rise to the holder snapping open or closed.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for securing a manbasket to the tines of a lifting fork of a forklift. A preferred embodiment comprises a tine clamp mounted to a tine socket on the manbasket. The clamp automatically applies a self-adjusting gripping force to the underside of the tine whenever the fork has elevated the manbasket and automatically releases the tine when the manbasket is resting upright on a reference surface. The tine clamp comprises a lever pivotably mounted at mid-length to the tine socket, at least one gripping cam rotatably mounted to one end of the lever, and a cam release member pivotably mounted to the opposite end of the lever. The lever is biased to keep the gripping edge surface of the cam in contact with the underside of the tine whenever the tine is in the socket and the manbasket is elevated. The cam has an outwardly spiraled profile to enable it to apply a gripping force to the tine that increases as the tine is urged more strongly out of the socket.

This enables an article of clothing or the like to be inserted therebetween. A tongue (17) can be pivoted (20) on the upper end of one of the gripping arms (9) to engage within a groove in the top edge of the other gripping arm (10). This results in the free ends (13,14) being locked together therefore securing the article of clothing therebetween. An edge (22) of a flange (19) from which the tongue (17) extends, is required to be forced past projections (21) on either side of the groove to locate the tongue (17) within the groove. The edge (22) forces the top end of the arm (10) outwardly which results in the securement of the free ends (13,14) together.
