  • Patent number: 5611118
Abstract: A device for retaining a visored cap upon a wearer's head under high wind conditions includes a strap member and a pair of clamp members that directly engage the strap member and a portion of a visor on a cap. The direct coupling between the strap member and the visor on the cap, which is maintained by the clamp members, is particularly advantageous for maintaining a cap in a desired position on a wearer's head under high wind conditions. The retaining device of this invention also includes an adjustment member that allows a wearer to vary the effective length of the strap member to ensure a snug fit. Each of the clamp members and the adjustment member include a housing having a cavity and an opening formed therein, a pin member slidable in the cavity and having an opening formed therein and a spring to bias the pin member thereby clamping the strap member in the openings.

  • Patent number: 5577306
Abstract: A one-handed closure and release mechanism for selectively shortening the dimension of an item utilizing frictional engagement of a stretchable elastic cord member and a restrictive guide structure having at least two openings. In various embodiments the elastic cord member may either be secured inside a channel or fixed within an object or garment or may have two free ends extending out of the closure mechanism. The one-handed closure mechanism operates by use of the exertion of force on the one or more free ends of the stretchable elastic cord member which results in the relative proportion of the stretchable elastic cord member inside the closure mechanism being reduced which, upon release of the tension, has the effect of causing the crushing of the object to reduce the length of the channel through which the elastic cord member extends inside of the restrictive mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5572777
Abstract: A shoelace tightening device which is an elongated, flat rigid plastic body with passages or holes in each end running parallel to the flat plane. The first passage is located near one end. The other passage is more elongated and located near the opposite end. The device is used by loosely threading the shoelaces through the passages, tying the ends of the shoelaces in a secure knot, pulling the shoe lacer up and away from the foot, rotating the top end of the shoe lacer up and over until the shoe lacer has been rotated 180 degrees, and centering the shoe lacer over the remaining laces. This effectively tightens the laces by increasing the distance the lace must travel. This allows a user to secure or release his/her foot from the shoe without tying or untying the lace.

  • Patent number: 5528803
Abstract: There is described a winch lock assembly which serves to cinch a sack and its contents closed, thereby locking said contents inside said sack, and at the same time, containing the cinch cord within the winch lock assembly. The winch lock includes a crank assembly, to hand-wind the cinch cord on a shaft inside said winch lock body. When said cinch cord is adequately wound up in order to close the cinch sack, additional force may be applied to said cord with the thumb and index finger of the hand, without said cord unwinding between said torque strokes, due to the clutch-breaking effect of the wound-up cord inside said winch lock body. The crank handle is pivotally mounted on a crank assembly, so as to be folded into crank assembly, thereby locking the crank assembly to said winch lock body. This is accomplished by a locking surface on the crank handle that moves into slots cut into the winch lock body when said handle is folded into the crank assembly.

  • Patent number: 5469640
Abstract: A quick adjusting shoe lacing system. The system has a cinch plate having eyelets which are spaced apart to about the same distance as eyelets formed in the lacing area of the shoe. The shoe laces are laced through the cinch plate eyelets along with the eyelets in the lacing area of the shoe. A strap, fixably attached at a lower end to the shoe and loopable at an upper end through a slot in the cinch plate is used to adjustably pull the cinch plate and the shoe laces looped through its eyelets downwardly and thus increase the shoe lace tension. Alternatively, a latching buckle linked to the cinch place via a wire loop can be used to affect changes in lace tension. These changes in lace tension can be affected even after the shoe laces are laced and tied up, offering the ability to make quick and fine adjustments to shoe laces.

  • Patent number: 4824049
Abstract: An improved coupling for connecting an arresting pendant and the woven tape utilized in an aircraft arresting system is provided. The coupling consists of an elongated hollow body having at least one open end and a longitudinal slot which extends into its hollow interior. A mounting bracket for connection of the coupling to the arresting system pendant is attached to the side of the coupling body which is opposite from the slot. The tape from the arresting system is wrapped between and around a plurality of clamping bars and is then inserted through an open end of the coupling body with the connected end of the tape extending through the longitudinal slot. The clamping bars are sized and shaped to substantially fill the interior of the coupling body and to grip to the tape which is wrapped then around.

  • Patent number: 4700434
Abstract: A circular disk having a tool actuable projection on one face and a threaded stud projecting from the other face. A slit formed in the threaded stud that cooperates with a threaded receiving tool held disk. The threaded stud is placed over a line with the line fitting into the slot. The threaded disk is then screwed over the threaded stud to confine the wire within the slot. A plurality of matched and aligned openings in both disks concentrically located near the outer diameters of the disks through which pins, bolts or cotter pins can be inserted after the disks are rotated relative to one another to wind the wire about the bolt during a tightening operation, thereby not permitting the tightened wound wire from unwinding from the formed coil.

The collar (4) and the cap (5) are kept in a position pressing against the skier's leg by tension on a cable (8) which is anchored by one end on the collar (4) or the cap (5) and on its other end on means (19) which allow traction to be applied to it by winding under the action of the elastic solicitation means for the reel in a direction winding up the flexible cable (8) and under the action of manual pulling means (81) allowing additional windup for adjustment of the pressure applied to the skier's leg. This arrangement permits a precise adaptation of the upper (3) of the boot for any leg conformation.

  • Patent number: 4604773
Abstract: A manual two part automobile seat belt tightener which conveniently assembles and disassembles to permit intermediate attachment to a seat belt without the need to pass any of the seat belt buckle parts through the tightening mechanism. The tightener mechanism includes a non-circular bifurcated pin or reel and a complimentary non-circular aperture in the tightener frame to assure that the pin or reel cannot be rotated until the pin or reel is fully inserted in the frame. In particular, in attaching the tightener to an intermediate portion of an automobile seat belt, the tightener ratcheting mechanism cannot be rotated unless the bifurcated pin or reel is fully inserted into the ratcheting mechanism. An additional advantage to the new tightener is the significantly simple and sturdy construction that can make use of a conventional hexagonal ratchet wrench mechanism in the novel combination.
