  • Patent number: 7422167
Abstract: A fluid-energy mill for size reduction of a material includes a manifold defining a grinding chamber having a first radius extending from a center of the grinding chamber, a gas inlet, a feed inlet, and an outlet. The feed inlet is positioned such that the material enters the grinding chamber tangent to a second radius extending from the center and larger than the first radius. The fluid-energy mill includes a cover for enclosing the grinding chamber. The manifold defines a non-circular groove around the grinding chamber, and a seal is positioned within the groove. The grinding chamber is cycloid-shaped. The manifold defines a protective pocket and a barrier at a region where the material enters the grinding chamber. The feed inlet includes a feed gas inlet, a material funnel, and a venturi. An intersection of the feed gas inlet and the material funnel form an elliptical hole. The feed inlet is oriented at an angle of about 30 degrees or more to a horizontal.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to shredder openings or throats. Specifically, this invention teaches a shredder housing with a top throat to allow material to be disposed of from above the shredder, as well as a side throat to allow for material to be disposed of from the side of the shredder. This is accomplished by placing a guiding member in the throat to assist both the top and side input. In addition, two side throats substantially opposite each other allow for multiple users to simultaneously use the shredder. Finally, the guiding member can serve as a handle to assist in lifting the housing from the base.

Abstract: A method and two apparatuses for comminuting chips are presented. Chip breakers without a coarse-part ejecting element are often used for comminuting chips. Blocking constituents therefore have to be removed with great effort, for example by hand. If a coarse-part ejecting element is present, there is no differentiation between blocking hard parts and blocking clumps of chips, but instead both types are ejected. It is now envisaged to subdivide blocking constituents in horizontal chip breakers into categories, depending on the negative acceleration of the shaft (3, 17, 18) caused by the blocking, and to assign to each category a defined reversing operation for loosening the blocking constituents and, if appropriate, discharge from the comminuting space (1, 15) by means of a coarse-part ejecting element (12, 32).

The driven grinding member is mounted at one end of a drive shaft, and apparatus is provided at the opposite end of the drive shaft for positioning the drive shaft longitudinally and thereby positioning the driven grinding member relative to the fixed grinding member. The housing supports the driven grinding member and is mounted for pivotal movement about horizontal and vertical axes to vary the parallelism of the fixed grinding member relative to the driven grinding member.

  • Patent number: 6202950
Abstract: A crop material processor for disintegrating baled crop material comprises a container, a disintegrator, means for manipulating the crop material for disintegration by the disintegrator and a discharge opening that is at the bottom of one of the side walls of the container. The crop material processor further includes a discharge door near the discharge opening. The discharge door can be pivotally positioned anywhere between extreme upper and lower positions to control the discharge of crop material. A controller for determining the position of the discharge door includes an actuator for moving the door, a mechanism such as a handle or motor for driving the actuator and a biasing spring for assisting in the movement of the actuator. The crop material processor may further include an adjustable deflector located at the bottom of the discharge opening.
