  • Patent number: 4220288
Abstract: Mill roller controlling apparatus including a mill roller, a pair of support hydraulic ram assemblies supporting each end of the mill roller and an auxiliary hydraulic ram assembly to which each of the support ram assemblies are connected in closed hydraulic circuit. The apparatus is characterized by the provision of control means such as a gas accumulator which maintains constant pressure in the auxiliary ram assembly whereby on movement of the cylinder or piston of the auxiliary ram assembly, each end of the mill roller will move upwardly or downwardly in unison.

  • Patent number: 4193555
Abstract: A roll mill has sealing devices pressed against the ends of the rolls to seal the roll gap so that material being processed is not squeezed out (such as oil seed during treatment for flaking). The sealing devices include flow guides (such as recesses therein). A curtain of material, wider than the rolls are long, falls onto the roll gap, and so much of it as exceeds the width of the rolls is guided by the flow guides into the roll gap from beyond the ends of the rolls outwardly of the roll ends. This happens because the flow guides themselves extend near the roll gap but stop short of the roll ends. The sealing devices may include a sealing pin surmounted by an elongate wedge member, the two having communicating recesses which together form the flow guide.

  • Patent number: 4184204
Abstract: A micro-processor is useable which can be programmed so as to provide a controller for a refiner, for example, for a paper stock refiner in which flow and consistency transducers are utilized to measure these parameters of the paper stock and these signals are supplied to a programmable refinery controller which also receives an input of the power supplied to the refinery and supplies a control signal to the refiner so as to control the power supplied to the refinery. One or more fixed inputs may also be supplied to the controller.

  • Patent number: 4179074
Abstract: For control of a crushing plant to ensure both that a quota quantity of product is produced during each working period and that the product has optimum economic value by reason of small particle size, determination is made of the amount of product passed through the plant from the beginning of the period to each of a number of measurement times during the period. Each such determination gives a "still to go" quantity, hence a theoretical new feed rate to be maintained. The rate of feed of material into the plant is adjusted in correspondence with the ratio between that theoretical rate and the actual feed rate prevailing during an interval just before the measurement time.

  • Patent number: 4140285
Abstract: Apparatus for grinding cereal grain involving means for controlling of grinding forces between a pair of cooperating grinding rolls, by regulating the actual grain receiving gap between the rolls during rotation thereof and in accordance with a preset desired dimension. A pair of parallel grinding rolls are mounted for movement of one roll relative to the other in a generally radial direction. One of the rolls is yieldingly biased toward engagement with the other roll. Adjustment mechanism is operative to limit movement of the bias roll toward said other roll and to establish said preset dimension or gap between the rolls.

  • Patent number: 4084752
Abstract: A system and method for adjusting a gap between rotary striking blades or hammers and an operating plate in a crusher without interrupting the operation thereof are disclosed. In one embodiment, the system includes a sensing bar provided on a slider, a shifting device for the slider, a moving device for the operating plate and a controlling device electrically connected to motors of the slider and the moving device. In operation, the sensing bar is brought into contact with the rotating striking blades or hammers by shifting the slider, whereby detecting the extent of wear of the striking blades or hammers from the total shifting distance of the slider, and the operating plate is then moved to the extent commensurate with the detected wear.

  • Patent number: 4073442
Abstract: A system for measuring and regulating the grinding space between two metallic grinding discs and to prevent direct contact therebetween; one of the discs being rotated while the other one remains stationary to grind therebetween fibrous cellulosic material, such as moisture-containing wood chips, for pulp making. One of the discs is electrically insulated from the other parts of the system and is included in an electric circuit with the positive and negative terminals connected to the disc at points electrically insulated from one another and the moisture in the wood chips collected in the grinding space is used to produce a conductive cell, such as an electrolytic variable resistance, which bridges the two terminals and closes the circuit. The resistance of the cell which varies in response to fluctuations in the grinding space is measured by an ammeter or similar measuring device which thus gives a reading of the width of the grinding space.

  • Patent number: 3961757
Abstract: Refining machine for chippings, shavings, paper pulp and the like comprising two grinding discs rotatable relative to one another and each provided with grinding bodies, forming between them a narrow slot-shaped grinding chamber. The grinding discs are so arranged that they can be displaced relative to one another for the adjustment of the size of the slot-shaped grinding chamber in order to compensate for the wear of the grinding bodies. Means is provided to cause the grinding discs to approach one another continuously at a predetermined rate during the period the machine is in operation.
