  • Patent number: 5713526
Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing hulls from milo berries is provided. The apparatus includes a first cylindrical shaped chamber having a plurality of abrasive grinding stones mounted on a shaft extending through the chamber. The outlet to the first chamber is connected by a suitable conduit to the inlet of a second, cylindrical shaped chamber having a plurality of wire brushes mounted on a rotor extending through the chamber. An aspiration system connected to the chambers removes hull particles that have been separated from the milo berries. As the milo berries sequentially pass through the chambers, the stones and brushes remove the hulls from the berries.

  • Patent number: 5667435
Abstract: A press for separating meat from bones includes an annular pressure chamber defined by an inner slotted separation chamber surrounded by an outer slotted separation chamber for reducing pressure within the chamber by increasing the total open area in the slotted chambers through which the meat can flow, to improve upon the texture of the meat recovered, to reduce its calcium content, and to avoid the total destruction of the bone. Pressure reduction is effected by reducing the volume of the product being depressed in the annular chamber, the elongated slots of the separation chambers present shearing edges for shearing away the meat from the bone as the separation chambers are counter-rotated. A back pressure control valve automatically opens in response to annular chamber pressure acting as a flow restrictor for controlling the pressure.

A conical elevation of the bottom of the receptacle provides at the apex, a bearing point for a propeller, which may spin by the flow of draining fluid to free and fragment debris. By depressing a spring loaded bearing point, the same propeller can be used to manually force the propeller against the floor of the receptacle to crush and grind more resistant material. A plug placed below the receptacle and prop assembly can be raised or lowered by rotation of the assembly. The assembly is removable for cleaning and inspection.

  • Patent number: 5248042
Abstract: A mobile screening apparatus includes a horizontal rotary drum preferably fed by underflow from a prescreening device that is reversible endless belt of screening grizzly bars. The belt reverses for expelling oversize material caught between bars. Force needed to turn the drum is monitored, as a way of controlling drum feeding by the prescreening device, for preventing protracted over-filling of the drum. The screening drum includes an outer peripheral cage of longitudinal bars, at least some of which preferably are movably mounted. A set of wires is circumferentially wrapped about the bar cage, with sufficient flexibility to permit the wires to locally elastically flex away from the bars sufficient to pass slightly oversize material and facilitate cleaning of debris lodged in spaces among the bars and wires. Brushes help dislodge lodged debris.

Abstract: An improved motor coupling and bearing housing are disclosed for a meat deboning machine and the like wherein the motor coupling includes an axially fixed coupling between a drive motor shaft and an auger which accommodates axial movement during thermal expansion to reduce bearing and other parts failure, and allow the drive motor to operate at its magnetic center. A thrust bearing operates between the coupling and is pre-loaded by a biasing force exerted between the coupling and the drive motor shaft which also loads the coupling as it floats over the drive motor shaft. A twist lock connection is made between the coupling and the auger which allows for quick assembly and disassembly while maintaining a good drive connection. An idler housing in conjunction with the motor coupling accommodates thermal expansion of the auger clearance in the motor coupling accommodates small amounts of angular misalignment without placing large forces on the bearings.

  • Patent number: RE34458
Abstract: A screening machine has a rotating screening drum for screening dirt or other material to a desired size through the screen openings, and is made so that it reduces clogging of the screen, even when rocks, dirt clods, and moist dirt is being screened. The rotating drum has interior brushes and a beater bar for keeping the material moving on the interior of the drum. A holding bin and feeding conveyor is used at the input end of the machine and is positioned to empty into an input pulverizer or shredder, that has a powered drum that will break the dirt clods up. The holding bin has a cover grate to remove excessively large rocks and the like. The output from the pulverizing roller also drops material onto a grate through which the material passes before reaching the screening drum. These grates are called "grizzly bars" and help in the classification process. The screening drum can be converted to a mixer drum by lining the screen wall with sheet metal and removing the normally used interior brushes.
