  • Patent number: 7665681
Abstract: A roller mill for pulverizing material and separating the pulverized material has a mill for crushing the material and a classifier disposed on the mill for separating the crushed material. The mill includes a grinding mechanism that has a plurality of grinding rolls and a grinding ring that coact to pulverize material within a mill housing, which defines a grinding chamber. The classifier is a centrifugal-type classifier having a motor-driven rotor disposed within a classifier housing, which define a classifying chamber. The rotor has a plurality of blades that extend outwardly from the rotor. As the rotor rotates within the classifying chamber, the blades separate fine sized particles from oversized particles by passing the finer sized particles through the blades, and contacting and propelling the oversized particles against the classifier housing. The oversize particles fall downward through an outer annular passage defined by a baffle and the mill housing back to the grinding mechanism.

The apparatuses and methods place a gypsum particle optimizer in close association with the impact mill so that all the gypsum supplied to the impact mill has to enter the gypsum particle optimizer prior to the gypsum entering the impact mill, and so that heat generated from the impact mill enters into the gypsum particle optimizer from the impact mill. The gypsum particle optimizer utilizes a rotor to disperse the gypsum throughout the gypsum particle optimizer so that the gypsum is exposed to the heat from the impact mill prior to entering the impact mill. The exposure to the heat removes free water from the gypsum prior to the gypsum entering the impact mill.

  • Patent number: 7494079
Abstract: A recycling plant comprises a main conveyor that rotates horizontally near ground level. Collected mixed refuse is brought in by trucks on a driveway surrounding the main conveyer. Loaders or dozers are used to move the refuse onto the main conveyer where it will enter a processing unit straddling the main conveyer. Two or more such processing units can be positioned around the circle formed by the main conveyer. An adjustable height conveyer rides on top of the heaps of refuse entering on the main conveyor and compresses the mass so it can enter a first grinding mill. The refuse is ground and torn into small pieces. A second grinding mill further reduces the size of the pieces. A magnetic pickup uses electromagnets to levitate out bits of iron and steel which are carried away and put in a salvage bin. A manual sorting and picking station with takeaway conveyors and salvage bins allows personnel to manually pick paper, plastic, and glass for recycling.

Abstract: The bulk volume of large numbers of loose, separated, multiply bent, irregularly shaped scrap sheet metal is temporarily reduced, for transportation and storage of the metal for recycling purposes, by compressing the metal into temporary, compacted wafers formed of successively compacted layers. The apparatus includes a load chamber which is axially aligned with a compression chamber and a reciprocating ram which passes through the chambers towards an anvil plate which closes the discharge end of the compression chamber. A pre-determined quantity of loose pieces is placed within the load chamber. The reciprocating ram compresses the pieces of that batch into a thin layer. Successive batches are compressed into overlapping layers which are temporarily bound together, face-to-face, to form a unitary wafer, by temporarily bending and intertwining the peripheral edges of the layers. Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for recycling toner cartridges. A shredder breaks up the toner cartridges into pieces, thereby releasing any toner from within the otherwise substantially sealed cartridges. Each separator employs a sifting screen, which allows smaller particles to fall through the screen while holding back the larger pieces. Both separators agitate the pieces to mobilize the smaller particles. A vacuum extraction system is used to withdraw air from around the cartridge pieces and an air ionizer is included for feeding ionized air into the apparatus to reduce any static electronic charge buildup. The toner is then removed from the extracted air by a dust collector.

  • Patent number: 6966508
Abstract: A system for balancing and controlling the distribution of pulverized coal into multiple equal diameter outlet pipes of coal pulverizers for improving boiler performance. The device includes a plurality of flow control elements, one flow control element for each outlet pipe, all positioned a pre-determined distance upstream of the outlet pipes. Each flow control element is mounted on an independent adjustment mechanism and is thereby adjustable in position relative its corresponding outlet pipe to selectively vary the wake of the downstream coal particulate flow relative to primary air flow. The method of the present invention is practiced by monitoring coal particulate flow at the outlet pipes relative to primary air flow or individual flame characteristics, and then compensating for noted imbalances by selectively adjusting the flow control elements, thereby balancing and controlling the distribution of coal and improving combustion efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6902126
Abstract: A hybrid turbine classifier for a coal pulverizer includes a cone disposed within the separator body of the pulverizer. The cone extends downwardly from a base to a frustum which forms an opening for depositing coal particles on the grinding table of the pulverizer. The outer surface of the cone and the separator body define an outer passage for coal/air flow, containing a mixture of smaller and larger coal particles, from the grinding table. A circular, first classifier cage disposed proximate to the base of the cone defines a circumferential passage between the outer passage and the cavity of the cone. The first classifier cage includes static, circumferentially-spaced vanes which direct the coal/air flow in a spiraling, circular flow path within the cavity. The flow path defines a first flow direction. A circular, second classifier cage is coaxially disposed within the first classifier cage.

Abstract: In the production of meal-fine products by a milling process the milling material generated in a comminuting device is ordinarily separated at the desired grain size in a downstream sifter and the fine material (meal-fine product) obtained here is then separated in the fine material separating device from the sifting air. According to the invention it is proposed to construct the sifter as a V-sifter and to connect this latter, without interposition of the otherwise ordinarily used pipelines, directly with the fine material separating device, preferably an electro-filter.

Abstract: A apparatus for crushing waste metal products includes a rotor having a crushing device on a periphery thereof and a casing enclosing the rotor. The casing has an inlet and an outlet for products to be crushed. An exhaust gas from the casing is partly returned to the inlet of the casing by a circulator. The rest of the exhaust gas is ventilated and processed by an exhaust processor. An oxygen concentration is monitored in a gas pathway of the circulator to control the gas concentration in the casing. If the oxygen concentration is high, a water shower sprays into the casing.
