  • Patent number: 6955314
Abstract: A rotor of a spinning reel includes a rotor unit, and a fishing line guide portion. The rotor unit has a body portion that is rotatably mounted on the reel unit, and first and second rotor arms that each extend forward from opposing positions on the outer peripheral surface of the body portion. The fishing line guide portion is mounted only on the first rotor arm. The first and second rotor arms are formed such that a line L1 drawn along the pivot center axis of the fishing line guide portion of and a line L2 drawn through the width-wise center of the second rotor arm and substantially parallel to the first line L1 are on opposite sides of the rotational axis X of the body portion. A spinning reel rotor having a fishing line guide portion arranged on only one rotor arm can maintain rotational balance.

  • Patent number: 6929204
Abstract: A spinning reel rotor includes a cylindrical portion, first and second rotor arms, a bail arm, and a second cover member. The cylindrical portion is mounted rotatably to one end of a reel unit. The first and a second rotor arms extend in a direction away from the reel unit while being curved outward in radial direction from a position in opposition, with respect to the radial direction, to an end of the cylindrical portion on the reel unit side. An aperture is formed in the second rotor arm. The second cover member covers the outside of the second rotor arm and has through holes for adjusting its mass. The through holes expose a portion of the aperture. In this rotor that has a rotor arm provided with an aperture, variations in the rotational balance of cover members due to different degrees of exposure of the aperture are suppressed.

  • Patent number: 6913216
Abstract: The invention involves a holding mechanism located between and pivoting at two points, the first point at the rotor, and the second point at a location found on the primary bracket. In addition, the invention allows for the holding mechanism and the trip mechanism to be efficiently positioned on the primary bracket side of the rotor such that there are only a limited number of components remaining on the other side of the rotor, thus allowing for the rotor to be designed into a more complex shape, with a lighter weight and with a better balancing. The seizing or binding force during release of the bail wire mechanism is also reduced, since the bail wire, or other extended feature does not separate the holding and release mechanisms. In addition, the holding mechanism being pivotable between the two pivot points provides a smoother and more trip responsive fishing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6845934
Abstract: A rotor braking mechanism brakes a rotor when a bail arm pivots into the line-releasing position, and includes a moving member and a braking member mounted on a mounting groove formed on the base end of a cylindrical portion. The braking member includes first and second braking members, both of which are made from an elastic material and are approximately semi-circular in shape. The first braking member and the second braking member are press fitted onto the circular mounting groove by a spring member mounted on a groove formed in the outer periphery of the first and second braking members. The braking member includes a drag portion that frictionally and rotatably engages with the mounting groove, and a plurality of engaging portions that engage with the rear end portion of the moving member. With this configuration, the braking force of a rotor braking device is stabilized.

  • Patent number: 6843439
Abstract: A spinning reel has a rotor assembly that is rotatable about the axis of a spool used to store fishing line. The rotor assembly contains a pivotable bail system which can be open or closed, to facilitate casting and retrieving, respectively, of the fishing line. The reel also contains a selective clutch. With the clutch in the “off” position the rotor assembly can be rotated in either direction. With the clutch in the “on” position and with the bail system closed, the rotor assembly can only be rotated in the line retrieving direction. The present invention allows the rotor to turn in either direction when the bail is moved from the closed position to a partially open position.

Abstract: A spinning reel rotor braking device has a moving member, a braking member, and a restriction mechanism. The moving member is provided on the rotor and movable between a first position and a second position as the bail arm moves. The braking member is mounted on the mounting groove of the reel unit, and has a drag portion that generates a braking force by frictionally sliding against the moving member when the moving member is in the second position. The restriction mechanism is formed on an inner periphery of the braking member and on an outer periphery of the mounting groove, and restricts backward movement of the braking member relative to the reel unit so that the braking member does not come into contact with a rear end portion of the mounting groove. With the present invention, the braking force of the rotor braking device can be stabilized.
