Axially Engaged Patents (Class 242/259)
  • Patent number: 10458601
Abstract: A safety system for a gas cylinder valve stem includes a coupler and a handwheel. The coupler includes a first engagement mechanism (EM). The coupler is configured to: mount onto the stem's base; and rotate the stem in unison with rotation of the coupler or remain stationary in unison with the stem. The handwheel includes a second EM configured to engage in surface-to-surface contact with the first EM. A locking mechanism is defined by the first and second EMs. The handwheel is configured to mount onto the stem's intermediate portion between the stem's tip and the coupler's proximal top surface. The handwheel is configured to rotate about the stem's longitudinal axis, in response to receiving an angular force of rotation in a lateral plane. The handwheel rotates in unison with the coupler when the locking mechanism is engaged, yet rotates independent from the coupler when the locking mechanism is disengaged.

  • Patent number: 9743651
Abstract: The invention is a fishing reel handle drag system and a fishing reel having a handle drag system which comprises a reel housing, a shaft extending through the housing, a reel spool is mounted on the spindle and has at least one spool face, the spool is rotatable in first and second opposite directions, a crank or handle member is provided for rotating the spool in a first direction, an anti-reversing device is provided to prevent the crank from rotating with the spool when moving in the second direction, the crank is secured to one end of the shaft adjacent the spool face, the crank is adapted to lever axially toward and away from the spool face, a wave washer is provided on the shaft between the crank member and the spool face whereby when the spool is rotated in the second direction and the crank member is levered toward the spool face the wave washer is caused to be compressed against the spool face to thereby generate drag against the rotating spool.

  • Patent number: 8550392
Abstract: A dual-bearing reel clutch control device includes a tubular clutch cam, a clutch yoke, and a coupling yoke. The tubular clutch cam is configured to be rotated between a coupled position and a decoupled position in conjunction with movement of the clutch operating member between the first position and the second position. The clutch yoke is engaged with the clutch mechanism. The coupling member is configured to couple the tubular clutch cam and the clutch operating member, and configured to rotate the tubular clutch cam between the coupled position and the decoupled position The clutch return mechanism is coupled with the tubular clutch cam and the coupling member. The clutch return member includes a rotation member attached to a rotation shaft of the handle, a clutch return member, and a toggle spring member configured to urge the clutch return member towards either the engaged position or the disengaged position.

  • Patent number: 8534584
Abstract: A dual-bearing reel speed change operation mechanism is configured for a user to switch transmission speed from rotation of a handle to a spool at either a first speed or a second speed. The dual-bearing speed change operation mechanism includes a handle a handle shaft, an operating shaft, an operating shaft urging member, a base member, a lock member, and a lock member urging member. The handle arm includes a first through hole penetrating therethrough in a direction intersecting with a longitudinal direction of the handle arm, and a first protrusion protruding from the handle arm away from the spool. The base member formed in a plate shape. The base member is configured on a front surface of the handle arm. The base member includes a third through hole communicating with the first through hole, and a fourth through hole in which the first protrusion is inserted.

  • Patent number: 8113456
Abstract: In a speed-change operation mechanism, a main body of a lock member is disposed to produce a clearance between the main body and the surface of the handle arm, whereas a pivot operation part of the lock member is disposed to close a clearance between the main body and the surface of the handle arm and simultaneously to produce a clearance between the pivot operation part and the surface of the handle arm. A relatively large clearance is produced between the main body of the lock member and the surface of the handle arm, whereas a small clearance, just enough to allow a pivot operation of the lock member, is produced between the pivot operation part of the lock member and the surface of the handle arm.

  • Patent number: 7793878
Abstract: A fishing reel comprises a cylindrical handle shaft that rotatably retains a high-speed driving gear and a low-speed driving gear. Inside the handle shaft, a switching shaft is fitted slidably along the axial direction. The fishing reel includes a switching member inside the handle shaft that is selectively engageable with the high-speed driving gear for high-speed winding or the low-speed driving gear for low-speed winding in response to an axial movement of the switching shaft. The switching member having at its one end adjacent to the handle a projection extending inside the handle shaft.
