Transverse Cutting Patents (Class 242/526)
  • Patent number: 11046540
Abstract: A rewinding machine winds a web material into a log about a core. The web material to be wound is directed about a rotating winding drum. A continuous loop is spaced from the winding drum and with the winding drum defines a nip through which the core is inserted and through which the web material is directed. A surface of the continuous loop opposite the winding drum across the nip is configured to move in a direction generally opposite of the winding drum for winding the web material about the core. A rider roll defines a winding space with the winding drum and the continuous loop. The rider roll is movable relative to the continuous loop and the winding drum to allow for an increase in a diameter of the log in the winding space during winding of the web material about the core.

Abstract: The rewinding machine includes a first winding cradle, formed between a first winding roller, a second winding roller and a third winding roller and a second winding cradle formed between the first winding roller, the second winding roller and a fourth winding roller. The first winding roller and the second winding roller define a nip through which nip the winding cores, around which the web material is found, pass and the web material is fed towards a roll being formed in the second winding cradle. A severing member is furthermore provided, acting on the web material between a winding core and the nip, to sever the web material thus generating a tail edge of a completed roll and a leading edge of a new roll to be wound.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method for the production of a coreless roll (110?) including a sheet (110) of flexible, not moist, material such as a fibrous absorbent material, produced by winding of the sheet in one direction and rolling this sheet about a winding axis perpendicular to such direction, and including a central dispensing leader forming a projection along such axis relative to at least one part of the plane of one of the sides of the roll. The method is characterized in that the leader is produced by displacing a portion of the end of the sheet (110) before winding so that one of the longitudinal edges of the sheet forms an angle (?) other than zero relative to such direction of winding, after which winding of the sheet about the axis is initiated. By preference several sheets are produced by longitudinal cutting of a wide sheet. The solution may be applied for production in particular of general wipe rolls, hand towel rolls, or toilet paper rolls.

Abstract: A machine, system and method for severing a web having a series of containers, wherein the containers are spaced apart and linked together by a series of connectors disposed between the containers. The machine generally includes a rotary device having a plurality of spaced-apart standoff members extending radially outwards to contact the web at the connectors such that rotational movement of the rotary device causes movement of the web; a severing mechanism including a movable severing device that is adapted to urge the web against one of the standoff members to thereby effect severance of the web; and a control system comprising an operator interface to allow a specified number of containers to be selected for severance from the web.

Abstract: An apparatus for winding a flexible web continuously moving in a longitudinal travel direction as rolls onto sleeves has a winding station for holding a sleeve and rotating it about an axis for winding the web onto the sleeve. Upstream of the winding station at a changeover station a fresh sleeve is held adjacent the continuously moving web. A shell juxtaposed with the fresh sleeve in the changeover station forms therewith a gap. A cross-cutter for the web is provided adjacent an end of the gap and can form on the web a trailing end and a leading end so that the trailing end travels to the winding station for winding on the sleeve therein. Air is drawn air into the end of the gap to aspirate the leading end into the gap. This leading end is electrostatically adhered to the fresh sleeve in the changeover station.

  • Patent number: 7503518
Abstract: A web-chopping and sheet-winding apparatus comprising an unwinder for unwinding a supply roll of continuous flexible web which may be adhesive on at least one side. A knife roller including at least one fixed transverse knife blade extending from the surface is in nipped relationship with an anvil roller, the height of the knife blade being greater than the thickness of the web. The anvil and knife roller spacing is such that the knife blade extends just to the surface of the anvil roller, thereby chopping the continuous web into sheets as the anvil and knife rollers turn synchronously with the web passing therebetween. A tape core roller in nipped relationship receives the chopped sheets sequentially, the leading edge of each sheet being lifted from the anvil roller by any of a plurality of novel means.
