    Abstract: A rewinding machine for the production of rolls of web material wound around winding cores includes: a winding cradle, including peripheral winding members of the rolls; a feeding path of the web material towards the winding cradle; an insertion channel for inserting the winding cores towards the winding cradle, having an entrance inside which the winding cores are introduced and an exit toward the winding cradle, the insertion channel being defined between a rolling surface and a continuous flexible member, provided with a forward movement; an inserter for inserting the winding cores into the inserting channel. At the entrance of the insertion channel a pressing device is arranged, said pressing device projects toward the inside of the insertion channel and toward the continuous flexible member. The pressing device is arranged and configured to press the winding cores entering the insertion channel towards the continuous flexible member.

An apparatus and method for spirally winding a foil roll with a wound stiffener core in which a stiffener sheet is fed into a roll winder in adjacent outward contact with a foil web and a leading edge of the stiffener slightly ahead of a feed end of a foil web. The stiffener sheet is outwardly disposed from the foil web and in adjacent contact with the roll starter guides to prevent contact between guides and the foil web during initial core formation. Roll starter guides are moved from contact with the outer periphery of the roll once the initial core is formed allowing a desired length of foil web to be spirally wound around the core without damage to the web.

When the loading operation is performed, portions of the leader assembly are moved generally linearly into the tape cartridge and then the control mechanism causes such portions to pivot in order to engage the leader pin and remove it from its seat. When the unloading operation is performed, the portions of the leader assembly are moved in substantially opposite directions from the loading operation.
