  • Patent number: 11912519
Abstract: A rewinding machine winds a web material into a log about a core. The web material to be wound is directed about a rotating winding drum. A continuous loop is spaced from the winding drum and with the winding drum defines a nip through which the core is inserted and through which the web material is directed. A surface of the continuous loop opposite the winding drum across the nip is configured to move in a direction generally opposite of the winding drum for winding the web material about the core. A rider roll defines a winding space with the winding drum and the continuous loop. The rider roll is movable relative to the continuous loop and the winding drum to allow for an increase in a diameter of the log in the winding space during winding of the web material about the core.

Abstract: A system has first and second winding drums and a core feeder for inserting a core into a winding nest for forming a convoluted roll. The leading edge of the web is engaged with a threading belt and directed around the first winding drum and through the winding nest to a position where the leading edge is beyond where the core feeder inserts the core into the winding nest thus providing an excess portion of the web between the leading edge and the core feeder core insertion position. A thread-up core is inserted into the winding nest and rotated with the winding drums so that the excess portion moves around the thread-up core. The leading edge is separated from the threading belt, the excess portion of the web is wound around the thread-up core, and the web from the supply is wound around the thread-up core.

Abstract: A method, a mandrel and a device for removing coreless rolls of a plastic film. The mandrel comprises a tubular body having a plurality of radial holes, conformed with a chamber for distributing pressurized air, in which a piston suitable for being magnetically coupled with an external drive member slides. When a roll must be removed, pressurized air is supplied to the fore end of the mandrel, and escapes from all the holes to expand the internal turns of the roll which can be taken off without friction. As the roll advances along the mandrel, the magnetically driven piston progressively reduces the volume of the air chamber preventing at the same time the air to escape from the holes that progressively come to lie on the rear side of the mandrel, with consequent saving of compressed air.

  • Patent number: 7503518
Abstract: A web-chopping and sheet-winding apparatus comprising an unwinder for unwinding a supply roll of continuous flexible web which may be adhesive on at least one side. A knife roller including at least one fixed transverse knife blade extending from the surface is in nipped relationship with an anvil roller, the height of the knife blade being greater than the thickness of the web. The anvil and knife roller spacing is such that the knife blade extends just to the surface of the anvil roller, thereby chopping the continuous web into sheets as the anvil and knife rollers turn synchronously with the web passing therebetween. A tape core roller in nipped relationship receives the chopped sheets sequentially, the leading edge of each sheet being lifted from the anvil roller by any of a plurality of novel means.

  • Patent number: 7458539
Abstract: A winder has a scraper mounted about the axis of a winder drum for circumferential movement. The scraper has a semi-cylindrical concave surface which extends in the cross machine direction, the concave surface meets a second surface to form a scraping edge. The scraping edge engages the winder drum, scraping a web from the surface of the winder drum and pressing the web into engagement with double-sided sticky tape on a winder core with the concave surface. An alternative embodiment scraper has a flexible blade which extends in the cross machine direction and which functions similar to a spatula to scrape the pulp web off the surface of the winder drum and wipe the pulp web onto the double-sided sticky tape on the winding core.

  • Patent number: 7237743
Abstract: A tail turn-up assembly has a frame positioned upstream of a reel spool. A carriage is pivotally mounted to the frame by a four bar linkage. The carriage is pivotable, from a retracted position to an extended position. When the carriage is engaged with the reel spool, a pair of curved tracks are positioned so that arcs defined by the tracks have their centers coincident with the spool axis. A knife carriage rides on the curved tracks and is constrained to move circumferentially about the reel spool. An actuator on the carriage causes the knife carriage to traverse circumferentially about the reel spool. The knife carriage has a leading edge formed by a knife which tears through the a tail which is cut from the web when the knife carriage is moved on the curved tracks.

  • Patent number: 7011268
Abstract: For the winding of a material web on a driven winding roll, it is cut through after the completed winding of a winding roll and the start of the following web is fastened on a winding core. The web is fed in the winding roll via a guide device, preferably consisting of a winding roller, and, after being cut through in a guide channel laid around a winding tube. In order to be able to wind the web with alternating outer sides into a winding roll, the web is fed, according to the desired outer side, from the left or from the right on winding in the winding tube. The winding tube is driven with a corresponding one of two opposite directions of rotation.

  • Patent number: 6942175
Abstract: A winding apparatus has a rotary element, such as a core, that is rotatable about a winding axis. A roller is disposed adjoining the rotary element. The roller and rotary element together define a nip. A guide shoe has a chute wall and a plenum. The chute wall is aligned with the nip. The chute wall has an inner end disposed between the roller and the rotary element and an outer end spaced from the roller. The chute wall has a plurality of bores communicating with the plenum. In use, gas blown through the bores propels a web to the nip in a fluid film. The free end of the web is guided from an outfeed end of the nip in a loop to a second position adjoining the inner end of the guide shoe. During the guiding, the rotary element is rotated against the loop. This continues until the web overlaps and is cinched.

  • Patent number: 6883740
Abstract: In a tape drive device of the present invention, a large number of through-holes (an sucking portion) are formed in an outer peripheral portion of a reel hub onto which a recording tape, at a free end of which a leader tape is connected, is to be wound. The leader tape is held and guided by guiding means. When the leader tape reaches the sucking portion, a suction device operates and air is sucked through the through-holes. Consequently, the leader tape is suckingly retained at the outer peripheral surface of the reel hub. With the present invention, there is no need to form depressions or projections for accommodating and anchoring the leader tape at the reel hub. Therefore, the reel hub can have a smooth structure without any steps.
