Abstract: A torn paper web capture system that is a mechanism for securing a band, tape or strap, preferably composed of paper, across a paper roll as the roll is rotating. A sensor means detects the torn paper web and initiates both the shut down of rotation of the paper roll and the release of the band. The band resides within a guide track, the track being generally C-shaped in cross-section Upon contact with spool journal or similar rotating member the end of the band adheres and is wrapped around the rotating member. This wrapping action takes up the slack in the band and pulls it from the guide track and against the paper web, thereby securing the loose end of the paper web. The contact between the band and the rotating member may be initiated in multiple ways, such as with a nip roller, an actuating shoe member, or the like.

A tension arm assembly, in cooperation with a control panel and a DC drive motor, regulates through-put speed. Control and adjustment mechanisms are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5374006
Abstract: A substrate capable of being wound is transported to a substrate carrier and wound onto the latter. For that purpose the substrate is first held in a defined storage position. With the substrate in that storage position the substrate carrier is moved into a threading position and brought into engagement with the substrate. The substrate is then automatically threaded around the substrate carrier. When the threading operation is complete, the substrate carrier is moved into a winding position in which the substrate is wound onto the substrate carrier. The rate of feed at which the substrate is transported by a motor to the substrate carrier is regulatable. The substrate carrier is motor-driven in a controllable manner, at a uniform torque and in dependence on the feed rate at which the substrate is transported to the substrate carrier.

  • Patent number: 5344092
Abstract: In a cassette loading machine, several loading modules carry out the loading of a predetermined amount of use tape into the individual cassettes [, said]tape . The use tape [being]is continuously supplied from a pancake mounted on a support hub. When one of the pancakes mounted on one of the hubs is out of tape, [the intervention of]a manipulating unit [occurs and said unit]picks up, [by means of]with a grasping and release member carried by a supply module, a new pancake filled with use tape from a storage unit [located sideways]. The manipulating unit moves close to the out of tape pancake and removes it from the respective support hub with the aid of a grasping member carried by a discharge module. Then the new pancake filled with use tape is mounted onto the support hub in place of the out of tape pancake.

  • Patent number: 5328116
Abstract: A regulated length take-up device characterized by its substantially reduced width to be compact and simple structure, offering accurate regulated length take-up operation. A rotating lever is connected to the shaft of a take-up roll via a one-way clutch. Connected to the rotating lever is a cylinder mechanism which allows the take-up roll to rotate for the take-up operation along with the cylinder pull-in action. A sensor lever 32 capable of oscillating in accordance with variations in the take-up diameter of the take-up roll, is disposed in a manner that the orbit of the oscillation of the sensor lever agrees with the direction of the stroke of the cylinder mechanism.
