  • Patent number: 5938146
Abstract: A silencing system includes a separation roller which is urged against or located as closely as possible to the main tape roll during the removal of tape. A point of tangency between the separation roll and the main roll forms a stable separation line as the tape is separated from the main supply roll. In a first embodiment, a separation roller is mounted to be pneumatically urged against the supply roll. The separation roller directs the tape from the supply roll through what is preferably a 180.degree. removal path to prevent any tension in the taped removed from being translated into a force which would work against the bearing force of the separation roller on the supply roll. In a second embodiment a mechanical spring is used to urge the separation roller against the supply roll. In both the first and second embodiments, one of the pivot arms is made thinner to accommodate the space normally occupied by a brake located adjacent the roll of material being separated.

  • Patent number: 5931407
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a paper feeding mechanism for rolled paper which is easily set and has excellent carriageablity. When rolled paper is set, one guide member is pressed downward by an opened cover so that it comes closer to a body. At this time, a protruding member provided on the one guide member abuts against the other guide member. When the paper feeding mechanism operates, the cover is closed so that the one guide member separates from the body and urged toward the other guide member by an urging member, whereby the protruding member abuts against the other guide member. Therefore, since a width of a carrying path is held by a height of the protruding member between the one and other guide members, insertion of a rolled paper end is facilitated, and thus the paper can be smoothly carried with the aid of the tension of the paper.

In this manner, two adjacent fibers cannot switch places with each other within the holder. The holder may have one or more intermediate walls positioned between the two side walls to divide the plurality of fibers into two or more groups. By maintaining the fibers in a fixed certain order, the fibers cannot become intertwined with each other and the chance that the fibers become bent is reduced. Since the chance that the fibers become bent is reduced, the risk of fiber breakage or signal loss is also reduced.

  • Patent number: 5248107
Abstract: In a web winder for winding a web strip on a core, the web strip is brought into contact with the core at a predetermined position. The web strip is cut in such a position that the length of the portion of the web strip between the leading end and the predetermined position is slightly shorter than the length of the periphery of the core. The leading end portion of the web strip is applied to the circumferential surface of the core, and a wrapping roller is applied on the leading end portion of the web strip to press it against the core. Then the wrapping roller is rotated along the core toward said predetermined position by a predetermined angle with the web strip intervening between the core and the wrapping roller.

  • Patent number: 5014924
Abstract: In a winder for continuously winding a web material into rolls on successive cores, roll changing apparatus for cutting and transferring the web material from a full roll to an empty core includes two sets of water jet nozzles mounted for reciprocating movement in opposite directions lengthwise of the core to which the web is to be transferred. During the momentary interval of roll changing, the oppositely moving jets cut the web along a generally saw tooth pattern, and at the same time, the water which cuts the web also wets its cut leading end and the adjacent surface of the core, thereby causing adhesion of the end of the web to the core for a sufficient interval for this end of the web to be covered by the next wrap on the core.

  • Patent number: 4546930
Abstract: An apparatus for winding a continuous web, specifically tear-resistant paper or cardboard web, is preferably designed as a Pope reel winder, and when exchanging a full roll with an empty reel-spool, the latter is in customary fashion placed on the winding drum over which the web initially continues to advance onto the full roll. At the edge of the web, a sickle-shaped catch lever reaches around the upper portion of the empty reel-spool and engages the edge of a web loop to pull it about a portion of the empty reel-spool. Simultaneously, a cutting device can make a transverse cut in the edge of the paper web, and once the web edge has been engaged by the empty reel-spool, the remaining portion of the web tears through essentially without any shock effect.
